Dear Zeno, > but do you create a record for every issue ? > Do you add TOC and abstratcs in every issue ? We do not create separate bib records for each _issue_, although in principle we create a separate bib record for at least one article in each issue of our "core" journals. In practice, I'm not even sure that we do that. The search I proposed would give a list of every single article in a given journal. A refinement would be to provide a list of years, for example: <a href="opac-search.pl?q=issn:022&limit-yr=2004">Search for child records from 2004</a> I can't imagine how we could reasonably go about limiting our search to a specific issue (one could imagine using some sort of volume-issue-date number stored 952$x, although, as you point out, that's not a good solution...). > Because the standard, for me, is to create only one bibliographic record, > add an item for every issue during the year and after one year I > collapse all items of the year > into only one item. > > But I don't lend the issues of journals. What you describe is exactly what we want to do with our item records. My feeling is that any improved searching we can offer to our users is a good thing, even if it's non-ideal like the solution I suggested above. Regards, Jared Camins-Esakov P.S. In an earlier e-mail, it was suggested that perhaps there should be a wiki for Koha/analytic issues. I will look into setting one up.

Dear Jared Camins-Esakov, >Like so: > >Child record: >=773 \\$tCataloging & Classification Quarterly$x0163-9374$gVol. 38, no. 1 >(2004) > >Parent record (the 997$x is ANS local-use): >=022 \\$a0163-9374 >=245 \\$aCataloging & Classification Quarterly >=997 \\$x1 > >In the OPAC: >If 997$x==1 Then: <a href="opac-search.pl?q=issn:022">Search for child >records</a> but do you create a record for every issue ? Do you add TOC and abstratcs in every issue ? Because the standard, for me, is to create only one bibliographic record, add an item for every issue during the year and after one year I collapse all items of the year into only one item. But I don't lend the issues of journals. Bye Zeno Tajoli CILEA - Segrate (MI) tajoliAT_SPAM_no_prendiATcilea.it (Indirizzo mascherato anti-spam; sostituisci quanto tra AT con @)

Journal articles

Is there anyone who includes journal articles in their catalogue and uses MARC21 format? I'd like to compare notes about what MARC fields to use - especially anyone who has a Z39.50 server. KohaCon 2010 road trip.
by Joann Ransom 29 Mar '10

29 Mar '10

Hi all, Just received a quotation for $267 per person including accommodation, van hire plus luggage trailer, and the cultural show and dinner. This is heaps cheaper than I advised earlier. Extras on that price would be a bit of petrol (maybe $20 each) plus whatever food and extras you wanted - (like bungy jumping or the flying fox which is fantastic :). This is looking really cost effective. Next step would be to start taking names of people who are definitely wanting to do this road trip with us. So start thinking and scheming because I will be taking bookings in the next few weeks :) Cheers Jo. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kylie Henare <kylie.henare(a)harveyworld.co.nz> Date: Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 4:56 PM Subject: Travel Quotation To: hfields19(a)gmail.com Hi Joann Thanks for your enquiry. I have attached a quote for you above. The minimum hire if taking a one way rental is 3 days so I have included this cost in the quote for you above. SQL Report Help
by Sharon Jackson 29 Mar '10

29 Mar '10

Hi, I'm trying to run a report that gives me a list of the most popular DVDs for the current month. When I run the report, I get a list of DVDs that all have an issue count of one,(which I know is not the case). And when I look at the checkout history for DVDs that I know are popular - some don't appear on the list at all, and all have an issue count much higher than one for that time period. Any ideas/help would be much appreciated SELECT biblio.title,biblio.author,COUNT(*) AS issuecount FROM issues, biblio, items WHERE items.biblionumber = biblio.biblionumber AND issues.itemnumber= items.itemnumber AND issues.issuedate > '2010-02-28' AND items.itype='DVD' GROUP BY biblio.biblionumber ORDER BY issuecount DESC LIMIT 20 thanks Sharon -- Sharon Jackson Librarian RLIANZA Albany Senior High School P O Box 300-380 Albany 0752 Phone. Patron Deletions
by Kay Smith 29 Mar '10

29 Mar '10

We use Koha in a Prison Library in the Education Unit managed by Tafe staff, and have been unable to delete patrons from the patron file once these people have left. We are currently using Version 2.2 We select the patron record, select delete and select OK to the message Are you sure you want to delete this patron. This unfortunately does not remove the patron - they are still listed, even though the patron has nothing outstanding. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or are we missing a basic step??? Serials
by Mary Anne Temby 29 Mar '10

29 Mar '10

Dear Colleagues I am new to this list so apologies if this has been answered before. We are considering not loading serials into Koha as many of our subscriptions are now electronic. Instead we are considering using Serial Solutions to add our print holdings (diminishing each year) Has anyone else done this? Checkin for serials is a problem but if we leave the entries open on incoming print titles and close them off when no longer available that might work. It would mean re educating our clients to look in one place for serials and another for books etc, but our clients have already forgotten to look at the catalogue and go straight to the A-Z o journals!!!! Any guidance would be appreciated. Re: [Koha] no item type and Not Renewable
by Marty 28 Mar '10

I liked your idea, it made sense. I found the only difference in items was cn_source and itype. However, changing these does not solve my problem. Alas. I tried and failed. But it hasn't all been in vain. Playing around I noticed that the Edit Items radio button (from the Details page) returns this url; http://debian:8080/cgi-bin/koha/cataloguing/additem.pl?biblionumber=4796 (I cannot really do anything on this page, except deleting the item) and the route through the barcode from the Details page brings me to Item Details to edit Items (the one under the barcode, not the radio button) returns this url; http://debian:8080/cgi-bin/koha/cataloguing/additem.pl?op=edititem&biblionu… But on this page I have an "Edit item #4796" I still cannot do anything with the existing item, except delete it, but all the needed fields are present below it, and clicking on save changes will work. Also still wondering; where does it get the itype information? I am not yet pulling my hair out, but it's not far away... So close, but yet so far, sigh Thanks for all your help, Marty --- On Thu, 3/11/10, Owen Leonard <oleonard(a)myacpl.org> wrote: From: Owen Leonard <oleonard(a)myacpl.org> Subject: Re: [Koha] no item type and Not Renewable To: "Marty" <ontariowolf64(a)yahoo.com> Cc: "koha koha" <koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz> Received: Thursday, March 11, 2010, 8:22 AM > Now I have 2 lines with items showing at the top of the page. If the duplicate created by Koha works (can be placed on hold) then it sounds like there must be some difference between the two which you could discern. I would query the items table for the data on the original and the duplicate and see how they differ. You might be able to do a bulk update on the existing items without doing your duplication process. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org __________________________________________________________________ Yahoo! the problem seems to be the spacing (value 100): /var/www./kohacat/koha/cataloguing/value_builder > marc21_field_008.pl and > marc21_field_008_authorities.pl (for 008) function Clic$function_name(i) { defaultvalue=document.getElementById(\"$field_number\").value; newin=window.open(\"../cataloguing/plugin_launcher.pl?plugin_name=marc21_field_008.pl&index=$field_number&result=\"+defaultvalue,\"unimarc field 100\",'width=1000,height=600,toolbar=false,scrollbars=yes'); } I will post this this in the dev list.
