In the instructions for Debian Lenny 5.0 (INSTALL.debian-lenny) there is a dire message that was pointed out by developers as: * IMPORTANT: You should only use CPAN for Perl dependencies which are NOT available from the package maintainer. You have been warned! * With repect to installing dependencies, how does one know which Perl dependencies ARE available and when do we rely on CPAN to replace them? Is the "package maintainer" the original Koha download and if so, how do we know what packages are missing?

Appointment of Head of Libraries, Horowhenua.

Joann has been instrumental in the development of the Koha and Kete library systems, recognised nationally and internationally. She has just been designated one of the American Library Association Movers and Shakers for 2010, the first New Zealander to be so honoured. I think you mean 'how'? Koha uses MARC for the description of bibliographic records. Whether it is MARC21 or Unimarc is determined by the user during the Web install, and the choice is recorded in the system preference Cataloging/marcflavour . This then determines the field definitions in the Default framework of the Cataloguing module. The translation between the marc fields and the attributes of the MySQL tables is controlled by the 'koha to marc mapping' tables accessed on the Administration menu. The full marc definition of each bibliographic record is stored in MySQL in the biblioitems table, at biblioitems.marcxml. Hope that gets you started. Deleting Patron Records

We use Koha V 2.2 in a Correctional Facility Library but seem to be unable to delete patron records for borrowers no longer at the facility. After deleting the record and receiving the confirmation message, and you go back into the patron file, the patron is still listed. NDF2010 and KohaCon2010

If you were looking for another reason to come on down to Wellington, New Zealand for the Koha Conference then it was just announced. The National Digital Forum is an excellent annual conference for the GLAM sector in NZ. (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums). NDF 2010 is being held 17th and 18th October. Which is the week before the 3rd international Koha Conference which is also being held in Wellington from Monday 25th October (3 days of conference - 2 day hackfest). Circulation fine accessed by prior patron when item is already checked out

Hello, Question to anyone out there. Do Koha 3 or Koha 3.2 currently have an option (or ability) when checking out an item that is already checked out by another patron to waive the fine for the prior patron. If not I am looking at putting this option into 3.2. Thank you, Darrell Ulm

importing bibliographic records with system number

I have tried to import records into Koha using the 999 $c to use our current bibliographic identifier numbers, but it didn't seem to work. It looks like it didn't use those numbers where overwritten by koha. The numbers where sequentially assigned by Koha apparently. Are there any special setting in the import or perhaps something else that I may have done incorrectly? "The Community" should control the site, however Thanks, Ed Sharpe, Archivist for SMECC _www.smecc.org_ (http://www.smecc.org/) I think if PTFS wants to host the site on their servers, that would be fine, and their support and contributions would be more than welcome, as it is now. "The Community" should control the site, however, as koha-community.org is controlled and managed now. That implies that the community should own the domain name koha.org. I don't see anything that changes the need to make forward progress with the HLT organizational effort, which could hold the domain ownership. Without commenting on any other effect of the announcement regarding the PTFS acquisition of LibLime, I am curious about views of the Koha community regarding the statement: "PTFS pledges to enhance and maintain the www.koha.org site as the focal point for the world’ s Koha activities– the place to find the latest information on Koha support, documentation, news, and downloads." Will a PTFS hosted koha.org be regarded as the web presence for the global Koha community? Will koha-community.org/ continue, and which site will in fact be regarded as the global community site? Location not displaying on detail screen

I'm running Koha 3.0. I've got the bibs and holdings loaded and everything seems to be working, except for the Location field on the detail screen. The call number displays fine, the status displays and so does the date due. The Location field, however, is blank. If I look at the holdings in cataloging it shows that there is data in the shelving location field (952b). Does anybody know how to make this information display on the detail screen in OPAC?
