Linux or Windows?
by Amber Amland 25 Mar '10

25 Mar '10

We're currently running Koha version 2.2.3 on Linux. We've had it for about three years and really like Koha! Now we're looking at upgrading. Is the Linux version or the Windows version better? We're a small K-12 school and don't have tech staff who know Linux well; however, Linux has run so well so far we've only needed help once to change some dates in the "sticky due date" field and were able to get help from some of you. (Thanks again!) The only reason we're thinking about Windows is because our tech staff would be able to help us more. Does Koha 3.0 run so smoothly on Linux we could get along without the tech help as we have so far? Thanks! Introduction
by Nadel Catura 25 Mar '10

25 Mar '10

I am Nadel from the De La Salle Canlubang, Philippines. This is the second time that i subscribed in the Koha Mailing List. For an unknown reason, i have stopped receiving messages from the koha mailing list. So i used another mail account to subscribe in this mailing list. I really need this to be able for me to provide adequate assistance to the librarians in our school that use Koha as the main library system. I am hoping for your support. Thank you very much. -- Nadel D. Catura System Developer Information Technology Office De La Salle Canlubang Brgy. Malamig, Binan, Laguna

Printing search results
by Jared Camins-Esakov 24 Mar '10

24 Mar '10

Hello. We are are in the process of converting our library from a custom ILS to Koha. Although we have only had our proof-of-concept Koha instance running for a few months, I have already had two patrons ask if it was possible to print out search results as a bibliography (preferably in some standard format like MLA, Chicago, APA...). Has anyone customized Koha to print bibliographies based on search results, or does anyone have any suggestions for other ways we might meet our patrons' needs? We're also looking into extending the COinS functionality, so that our patrons could use Zotero (or another citation manager, I assume) to produce bibliographies, so if anyone would be willing to share any improvements to Biblio::GetCOinSBiblio for MARC21 flavor, we would be grateful. labels
by Erik Lewis 24 Mar '10

24 Mar '10

Never been in labels, before today. It looks really interesting as I play, however I do realize I made one bad mistake when I ran the web installer I deselected the label templates, which I think now would have been helpful. Is there an easy way to get the templates into my system now?

Hi Greg Thanks for your kind words and support, and for your curiosity. I'm not based in NZ despite the Maori, but I do have an appreciation of indiginous languages as I work for a training provider in Wales, UK, so thought it might be nice to try out a little of Koha's birth language, of which I now know 4 words ;-) We're still in the very early stages of Koha, and we haven't yet given our formal notice to quit to our current provider, but I'm doing this initial investigation so I know what options I've got. Kind regards Jos

My item types and 952 $y match up. Running 3.0 with NoZebra (small library). When I checked each area of advanced search, it appears as if none of them are bringing up results (i.e. limiting by year or itemtype bring up no results) Thanks, Rene Message: 2 Date: Wed, 24 Mar 2010 08:44:54 -0400 From: Erik Lewis <elewis(a)ngrl.org> Subject: Re: [Koha] Advanced Search problems To: GLBTLIB <glbtlib(a)indiana.edu> Cc: "'koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz'" <koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz> Message-ID: <70C680A3-1234-483E-8E29-0347E26E40D4(a)ngrl.org> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="windows-1252" Try limiting it in steps to determine the problem. Do your search and limit by year, again as item type and again as library. My guess is you have some mismatch between your item types and whats in your 952 $y On Mar 24, 2010, at 8:42 AM, GLBTLIB wrote: > Basic searches seem to go off without a problem, but advanced searches (where you specify that you?re searching just for books or movies, etc.) bring up nothing. Basic searches seem to go off without a problem, but advanced searches (where you specify that you're searching just for books or movies, etc.) bring up nothing. I'm not real KOHA savvy, so I'm sure I've just messed something up. Any ideas? Thanks! René

Kia ora tatou Hello everyone
by Jos Black 24 Mar '10

24 Mar '10

Kia ora tatou Hello everyone I've just joined the list so I'd like to introduce myself and my project, and I'd also like to say thanks everyone for all the archive posts that have helped me in my efforts so far while we are considering migrating from our current system at our multi-site library. I came across Koha a while ago when I wondered if there was an open source alternative to moving to another (unsatisfactory?) commercial system. It was a long road to get the go-ahead to try Koha out, but here I am with my first rough build. I've sorted setups, imported a few marc records, added some patrons, done some transactions and I *love* it, congratulations Koha community :-) I also have a question and here's the background: I've been stuck on why the opac wouldn't search when the staff client was searching fine, and this morning I fixed it thanks to inspiration from Scott Kushner, Erik Lewis and Chris Nighswonger's posts ("problem searching in opac"), plus a heap of luck stumbling across the right preference while looking for something else entirely: in the same way as having 'OpacSuppression' ON causes opac all searches to fail if you don't have any suppressed bibs, having 'hidelostitems' ON causes all opac searches to fail if you don't have any items marked as lost. So would it be useful to include something to this effect in the manual under 'hidelostitems'? If so, who do I submit it to? Jos
