Koha problem with importing bibs with biblionumbers after upgrade to 3.0.5
by Linda Culberson 22 Mar '10

22 Mar '10

Sorry, everyone, but I'm still not getting my bibliographic records to import with my system numbers assigned to the biblionumber I tried what everyone suggested, then thinking it was our version (3.0.2), we upgraded to 3.0.5. That done, I tried again this morning having what I wanted to be my biblionumber in 999$c, with the same results. Using ./bulkmarcimport.pl -x 999 -y c -file marc03_18test.mrc -d commit my biblionumbers were assigned sequentially starting with 1,2,3... Interestingly, looking at the marc fields themselves, my 999$c was changed to match the newly assigned sequential, so that they were also 1,2,3... Giving up on that, I tried to use the online staged import method. In that case, the bilbionumbers were once again assigned 1,2,3... but the 999$c was left unchanged. We are at 3.00.05.003 Thanks again for your help. -- Linda Culberson lculber(a)mdah.state.ms.us Archives and Records Services Division Ms. Dept. of Archives & History P. O. redundant records and Error 404s
by Amy Schuler 19 Mar '10

19 Mar '10

Hello, Recently I dropped my Koha database and then recreated it, in order to clear up the trouble caused by the sample data that I imported during the original installation. We reimported my bib records as well as the authorities, and this time I am happy to say that the migration bulkmarc & bulkauthority utilities seemed to work without any trouble! So I had thought that all of the little nagging problems that plagued us after the first installation were cleared up. However... now, when I search my OPAC, I see redundant records (2 or 3 identical records), and also when I click on some search results I get an Error 404/not found message. We already tried dropping the database a second time (so I have run the web installer, reset all of the preferences, and imported the MARC and authorities twice in the past 3 days) and still I have this redundancy and error 404 problem. I also just tried running rebuild_zebra, and received this error: DBD:mysql:st execute failed: deadlock found when trying to get lock: trying restarting transaction... at line 240". I don't know whether this rebuild error is related. Any ideas you can offer would be appreciated! Thanks Amy C. Zebra question
by Scott Kushner 19 Mar '10

19 Mar '10

Hi, I just installed Koha from git, imported my sql tables into mysql, RE-INDEXED zebra, exported the correct path, running zebrasrv -f /path/to/koha-conf.xml, and none of the searches are working. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone please enlighten me? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million. Sincerely, Scott Kushner Information Technologies Middletown Public Library

z39.50 Service with different Encoding
by Koller Wolfgang 19 Mar '10

19 Mar '10

Dear List, We are using Koha with great success, and everything works well. Our current z39.50 server (using zebra) outputs data using UTF-8 encoding - which is exactly what we want. However we now have the requirement to setup a second z39.50 server, running on a different port, which should serve the data in ISO-8859-1 encoding. Is it possible to get zebra to do an on the fly conversion of the encoded data? ebooks in Koha 3.0
by Marie Wardall 19 Mar '10

19 Mar '10

Does anyone have any ebooks they are currently using in Koha? We are looking at purchasing some from Follett and would like to know if we need to set up anything special or make any changes to Koha to have them come up properly? I've been able to download a demo ebook from Follett and it seemed to import fine and come up fine in the catalog but I wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything Any help or feedback would be appreciated. to cpan or not
by John Simonds 18 Mar '10

18 Mar '10

In the instructions for Debian Lenny 5.0 (INSTALL.debian-lenny) there is a dire message that was pointed out by developers as: * IMPORTANT: You should only use CPAN for Perl dependencies which are NOT available from the package maintainer. You have been warned! * With repect to installing dependencies, how does one know which Perl dependencies ARE available and when do we rely on CPAN to replace them? Is the "package maintainer" the original Koha download and if so, how do we know what packages are missing?

Re: [Koha] [Koha-devel] Question About MARC21 in koha
by Bob Birchall ＠ Calyx 18 Mar '10

18 Mar '10

I think you mean 'how'? Koha uses MARC for the description of bibliographic records. Whether it is MARC21 or Unimarc is determined by the user during the Web install, and the choice is recorded in the system preference Cataloging/marcflavour . This then determines the field definitions in the Default framework of the Cataloguing module. The translation between the marc fields and the attributes of the MySQL tables is controlled by the 'koha to marc mapping' tables accessed on the Administration menu. The full marc definition of each bibliographic record is stored in MySQL in the biblioitems table, at biblioitems.marcxml. Hope that gets you started.
