autobarcode MAX value problem

So there was a discussion going on that relates to my problem in May of '09, in which Joe Atzberger of LibLime said that Koha increments barcodes by checking the current MAX and adding one. Short question: how do I manually change the MAX value? We have around 100K records, and for some reason, Koha is auto-incrementing in the 800Ks. Oddly enough, I can't find any items in our catalog in the 800K's, either. Anyway, it's rather annoying to manually change every number, especially when you have multiple catalogers . . . On a development note, why don't we just have Koha increment from a current position, rather than from the highest? If we delete a large group of records, it would be very useful to be able to assign the old barcodes automatically by starting from the beginning of the "hole." That's what we did with our old system, anyway. So is there a way to do this already, and am I just missing it? Or what variable do I need to change to get Koha to increment from the right place? Koha-Community Site & Press Releases

Koha 3, bulk imported records not showing up in search

I just installed Koha 3 on a Ubuntu system. It's up and running and now I need to import some MARC records. I have a lot, so I am trying to use bulkimport.pl to do the job. I ran it on a file with about 89000 records and it seemed to run ok. Then I ran rebuild_zebra.pl with the command 'perl -I /usr/share/koha/lib /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -v -b -w'. It gave me an error message about being unable to unlock some files, so I ran it again using sudo. This time it seemed to go without a problem, but when I go to search the OPAC I only get 'no records found' messages. I checked the log viewer and it shows 89000 records added, but they don't seem to be searchable. Any help will be greatly appreciated. //SIGNED// PERRY OTIS Systems Librarian Muir S. WinSCP to Koha VM "lenny" build

Hi all, I just downloaded an setup the most recent Koha VM (Koha_3.01-Release_Configured-VMWare.tar.gz) all is good, and I can get to the web interface(s) no problem and can even connect via Putty, but, for some reason I can't connect to the Koha VM using WinSCP (winscp422.exe)??? I get the error "Cannot initialize SFTP protocol. Is the host running a SFTP server?" Am I missing something?? (like a SFTP server?) Thanks, -S

SubscriptionHistory ?

Not matter what I change the value of the SubscriptionHistory preference to I'm not seeing any difference. I'm asking here before I report a bug because maybe it's just me overlooking something. Thanks Nicole

Questions about running bulkmarcimport.pl and rebuild_zebra.pl

I just setup a Koha 3.0 system and am using bulkmarcimport.pl to import MARC records in batches of 80-90k records. After, running bulkmarcimport.pl on a batch of records I run rebuild_zebra.pl to index them. Rebuild_zebra.pl goes indexes both the new records and the records that have previously been imported. Is this the way it is supposed to work? Do I need to do something to have it only index the new records? Do I need to run rebuild_zebra.pl after each batch of records or can I bulk import all the batches and then run rebuild_zebra.pl once? Thanks. //SIGNED// PERRY OTIS Systems Librarian Muir S. Koha Firefox Offline Circ

On this page : http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=offline_circulation_firefox_plugin the last image is of a page in Koha with pending circ items - how do I get to this page? I did some offline circ in the FF tool and I see the items in the log, but I'm not sure how to get them into Koha - I l clicked a few buttons but nothing happened. Thanks Nicole

Classification Scheme Questions

I have 2 questions about classification sources: 1 - How does the classification source work in terms of sorting call numbers when you have multiple class schemes (like LC and SUDOC)? 2 - what is the purpose of filing rules? all i can add is a title and code…do they need some sort of code behind them to work? how do I know what the filing rules actually are for the default ones? Basically - I have no clue how to document the Classification Sources :) Thanks Nicole

Press Releases On Koha-Community.org Site

Greetings everyone! With regard to the recent thread on press releases on the community site; we in no way intended to attempt to use the community site as a way to "loudly" proclaim which contracts we had signed, and we are apologize if it was taken that way. Our releases regarding new customers are there so that people know the community is growing, and who is joining it in that growth (this is why our headings always start with Y has partnered with X for Koha). I think that all of the suggestions made about separating the vendor PRs are great, and we will be happy with whichever course the community decides to take. Paul, I personally like your idea of using possibilities #2 and #3 together. In the meantime, we will hold our releases until we have all decided the best way to proceed, and can always retroactively add them to their proper home on the site.
