Vendor question
by Gloria Hicks 03 Aug '10

03 Aug '10

Hello, I'm investigating the possibility of moving to Koha, and I would like to know more about the vendors that others have used for the installation and for support. We might or might not have the IT support in house, and I am trying to gather data on our options. If you used a vendor, please answer the following questions -- please reply off-list. 1. Which vendor? 2. How satisfied were you with the installation and migration of your ILS to Koha? 3. Was the migration completed in a timely manner? 4. Were there special issues or problems that made the migration more complicated? 5. Did your vendor help with the design of the interface and web pages? If so, was this an extra cost? 6. Are you satisfied with the look of your catalog and other staff pages (i.e. acquistions, patrons, reports, etc.)? How much input did you have in the designing of your public catalog page and the staff pages? 7. Which type of support do you have? (i.e. per incident or annual fee) 8. Are you satisfied with the response time when you have to contact support? With the expertise of the vendor's technical staff? 9. Who hosts the data? the vendor or do you have your own server? 10. Please provide any other information that you think might be helpful in choosing a vendor. Thanks in advance for your help. Gloria -- Gloria Hicks Roger G. Re: [Koha] Adding items using 952

Thanks Joel, we are doing to same at the present time, but I would like it to import with the 952. I found that the 952 gets loaded but you cannot see it unless you go to add item and then it appears, but it doesn't appear any other time. Strange???? In the records we create in our external cataloguing client we always add the field 952, but on import for a mysterious reason, 952 is stripped from the record upon import into Koha. But, I find it also just as easy once imported into Koha, to goto Quick Search and scan the item's ISBN (if the book has ISBN13) and it will take you directly to the Catalogue record, then just from the drop down select Edit Items, and then just add the item via the normal way. It's still pretty quick and easy to manually add an item. Sorry I couldn't be of any real help. Koha 3.0.6 (Community Ed.) on FreeBSD
by Joel Harbottle 03 Aug '10

03 Aug '10

Hi All, We are currently attempting to install Koha 3.0.6 (Community edition) on a Development server. Our Library's Systems Support & Development Officer is currently trying to install Koha 3.0.6 on a Development Server which is running the FreeBSD v7.2 Operating System, and has come across a slight problem with CPAN. At present, the install is unable to proceed because CPAN is unable to find the pre-requisite files. See attached document [Pasted_Data_467e.txt]. Is there away to set CPAN to be able to automatically download and install these files during the process of installing Koha, so that each file and its dependencies don't have to be downloaded and installed separately from the CPAN website? Also, on a final note, is there any library's out there which have Koha 3.0.6 installed on a server running the FreeBSD Operating System? If so, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you about any problems your library may have had during the process of installing Koha. Many thanks in anticipation! Where are you importing FROM? I add some of the 952 subfields before saving in OCLC, then import and my items import just fine. KohaCon in 84 days
by Kristina Hoeppner 03 Aug '10

03 Aug '10

Hello, (apologies for cross-posting) Koha celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. As you know, we will hold this year's KohaCon in Wellington from 25-27 October 2010, followed by a Hackfest. You still have time to register. There are just 84 days left until kick-off. Please check out the conference web site at http://www.kohacon10.org.nz/ for further details including the conference schedule. We would like to welcome you to this free conference in Wellington during the southern hemisphere's spring. As you will be in the country of the birth of Koha, why not pay a visit to Koha's proper birthplace? We have planned an exciting trip to Levin, just north of Wellington, where everything started, for 28 October 2010. This excursion does not only give you the opportunity to visit Levin, it's library, and meet the mayor, but also participate in a powhiri, a traditional Maori welcome ceremony and experience traditional Maori food. You can find the trip details at http://www.kohacon10.org.nz/2010/program/levintrip.html If you have questions regarding the conference, please contact us at http://www.kohacon10.org.nz/contact.html Cheers Kristina for the Organizing Committee of KohaCon10
