searching & zebra

Greetings friends, our Koha was recently updated to 3.01.00.145. We have super fast transactions with NoZebra set to Use, but we cannot search the catalog. When searching we get No results found. If I change the NoZebra setting to Don't Use, transactions are much slower but we can search the catalog. The logs show that rebuild zebra is set on a cron for hourly and daily. The logs read: #Rebuild Zebra index #First an incremental rebuild of authorities perl -I /usr/share/koha/lib /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -a -z #Then an incremental rebuild of biblios, cuz they don't play nice doin it together perl -I /usr/share/koha/lib /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -z OpacSuppression is set to Don't Hide and hidelostitems is set to Show. We'd like to use Zebra (NoZebra set to Use) and be able to search the catalog too. I'm pretty sure it's an easy fix, I'm just blind to it. NULL items

Greetings colleagues, I have tried to get our Circulation And Fines Rules preferences to work to no avail. Recently I ran a Catalog Statistics report and discovered that 6251 out of 6386 items.itype are NULL which probably explains why the Circ Rules aren't working. Is there a way to assign or fill the NULL items.itype values with one of our itype values? Even better would be to assign a specific value for each shelving location. As far as I can see in the staff interface, the item types (942c & 952y) are filled in. Changing the 942c and 952y does not seem to alter the NULL; the Catalog Statistics report result number does not change. Additionally, any idea how I managed to have so many NULL items.itypes; could it be my adding a space prefix to Description when in Modify Item Type so that alphabetically the most used itype is the first choice? Koha with Archon

All, We are an archival institution with library holdings, rather than a publicly circulating library, and this may seem a strange question, but here goes: Does anyone out there use Archon (an open source archival information system - http://www.archon.org/features.php) in addition to or with Koha? Or does anyone know of an organization/institution that does? My reasons for asking are both lengthy and complicated, so I'd be happy to discuss them off-list rather than bore everyone with them here. If it works I have a patch that should fix the relevance ranking for you. Basically it isnt actually applying the ranking at the moment, at least thats how my test system is behaving. Chris

Hello, We are testing Koha v. 3.01.00.145 before going live, when someone pointed out to me that search results are oddly sorted at best. In the searching sys preferences, the database is set to search by relevance (A-Z) in both the OPAC and staff interface. We are using Zebra and it is set to search by relevance. Here are some odd examples of so-called relevance ranking: When I perform a generic library catalog search (not selecting by field) for the known title phrase "Cool It", the results are an odd mix of items. First is "Atlas of breeding birds in New York State", which shares nothing in common with the book "Cool It". Nothing in the title, subtitle, subjects, etc. of "Atlas" resembles anything like the phrase, "Cool It". Now, when I perform a search by title for "Cool It" I receive two hits - the first is for a book about microbe-vector interactions (again, no reason for match) and the second hit is for the correct book. It is bad enough that the general search is so far off, but for the fielded search it seems like entering the exact title should return that title as the first hit, rather than further down the list? I have similar examples of this sort of thing. I wonder how to (a) fine tune the general search (keyword mapping, other ideas?) and/or (b) at least change the default search field to TITLE, if I cannot increase precision of the general search.
