What should an empty authority subfield do?
by Marcel de Rooy 13 Jan '11

13 Jan '11

Referring a question in bug 5572 to the Koha list for further comments from the list. Bug 5572 introduces a refinement on authority merging. (Copying the change of an authority to the related biblio records.) Janusz (author of the patch) wrote: The original behavior in 3.0 was: when authority has been changed, then in the corresponding fields in the bibliographic records all the subfields of such fields controlled by authority will be dropped and created anew with only subfields which have a value in the authority. The new behavior is much better: in the bibliographic record only subfields which have a value in the authority_to (the new authority) will be changed. BUT what if there was a subfield present (with value) in authority (and in bibliographic) and the value is now deleted form authority? It will still stay in all bibliographic, whereas it should not. Hence my proposal: subfields not active in authority framework will be preserved; subfields active in the authority framework (i.e. controlled by this authority type) should be set as in the authority record - either have the value of corresponding subfield in authority or be empty. Marcel (tester of patch) commented: Tested your patch: it works as described. I see your point when you should clear a subfield at the authority side and you want to see the same at the biblio side. [How often would that happen?] However, if the subfield was already empty at the authority side and you update the auth record, do you also want to clear at that moment any possible info in that subfield at the biblio side? Does an empty authority subfield that is "not in the ignore tab" in the framework, really mean that that subfield should always be empty too at the biblio side? I am not sure about that; I will copy this comment to the Koha list for possible further discussion. What do you think? Thanks for further clarification.

Problem with patrons holds
by Vitor Fernandes 12 Jan '11

12 Jan '11

Hi there. I've a serious problem... The patrons can exceed the number of holds allowed. This is my circulation matrix. Alunos CET Monografia Geral 3 10 0.50 1 0 0 2 3 0.000000 Alunos Doutoramento Monografia Geral 6 10 0.50 1 0 0 2 6 0.000000 Alunos Erasmus Monografia Geral 3 10 0.50 1 0 0 2 3 0.000000 Alunos Erasmus Monografia Referência 3 10 0.50 1 0 0 2 0 0.000000 Alunos Licenciatura Monografia Geral 3 10 0.50 1 0 0 2 3 0.000000 Alunos Mestrado Monografia Geral 6 10 0.50 1 0 0 2 6 0.000000 Alunos Pós-graduação Monografia Geral 6 10 0.50 1 0 0 2 6 0.000000 Docentes Monografia Geral 6 10 0.50 1 0 0 2 6 0.000000 Docentes Monografia Handbook 3 2 0.50 1 0 0 2 0 0.000000 Funcionários Monografia Geral 3 10 0.50 1 0 0 2 3 0.000000 Investigadores Monografia Geral 6 10 0.50 1 0 0 2 6 0.000000 For example the holds allowed for one patron with category "Alunos Licenciatura" for item types "Monografia Geral" are 3 holds, but in the OPAC the users can put on hold more than 3 items of that type. Who I can solve it? Which is the perl function, library for holding? Perl is not a problem for me and maybe a can solve it changing the code. Is a Koha bug? Regards. Vitor Fernandes

Question about Authorities
by SlyzertVoltrond 11 Jan '11

11 Jan '11

Greetings, We found it very confusing to add a new authority record for Personal Name(and others as well, I guess) in Koha. Do we really need to fill out all those fields? Can't we make just having tab 1 on display, because that's actually the record we want to add? Would appreciate it if someone could explain how Authorities work in Koha. regards, SlyzertVoltrond

Re: [Koha] Koha upgrade to 3.2.1 issue with DBD::Sqlite2 and PDF::API2::Simple
by Ian Walls 10 Jan '11

If you've attempted to install PDF::API2::Simple from CPAN before installing Module::Install, you'll need to manually delete the previously unwrapped directory (the /root/.cpan/build/PDF-API2-Simple-1.1.4-vDfJo3 part in Randy's example). Then, doing the "install PDF::API2::Simple" command again in CPAN should work. Hope this helps! -Ian 2011/1/7 Randall Rowe <r.rowe(a)lincolnlibraries.org> > Hi Ann, > > You shouldn't have to reinstall perl.
