Dear All On behalf of LISolutions Trust Pakistan (Vice Chair, DlnetSA), I withdraw from the bid of KohaCon. Being National Node of DlnetSA, we will support the combined efforts made by DlnetSA's National Node, Nepal (Healthnet, Nepal). Healthnet Nepal and DlnetSA will jointly organize KohaCon 2011. Tech consultants worried about the security of a windows server network if linux server with Koha is introduced. . .

Hi everyone, I'm looking for sysadmins who are running Koha on a Debian Linux server on a network that also runs a windows mail server and a mac server. The tech consultants who run our high school's network are fearful that adding a linux server would pose a security risk. Everything that I have read praises linux security on its own but I haven't found resources that discuss security threats between servers. I'll also be posting my question on linux listservs but I wanted to make contact with any sysadmin/librarians who have a network environment closest to our own. If anyone knows of any good websites or books on linux security especially in mixed server environments I would be very grateful. Thanks Koha community!

About KohaCon 2011 - ideas & thoughs

Hello world, I don't know for others, but travelling the world to go at the conference is a big investment. Having 3 days for the "user" part of the conference is enough. In 2006, in France, for the 1st KohaCon, that I organized, we had a full week for the developers. In 2009 we had only 3 days, same in 2010. I definetly think it was too short to have only 3 days for the developer part of the conference. We have to deal with teaching new developers how to get involved, experienced devs want to hack, some want to share ideas for the future. So I suggest to have more than just 3 days for the hack-fest. A full week may seems long, but I think it's the good timing ! It does not mean a decision must be taken immediatly, but I think the poll should reflect how possible it is to have more time. collection vs item types

We are attempting to download a new version and Koha and set it up. We are playing with 3.02 as downloaded from a livecd. The OPAC currently lists item type only so we assume we should actually use this to identify different collections. However, we have books in four difference collections (general, reference, reserve and kidz). Should these be in the collection codes after all and how do we get them to show on the opac? Do most libraries have both item type and collections showing or just use one? We also have different media types in our AV collection. Therefore we have one item type in four collections and one collection with 6 different item types. Anyone give us a clue. Setting up is only the beginning of our worries. We then have to import date. The documentation is not clear regarding setting up from scratch. Sorry Nicole - if you know where it is could you give me page number please. So far documentation describes what something is but not how to alter it, or load data into it, or in fact which area is most appropriate when there are numerous options. Not much hair left to turn out. Fwd: koha: sort by year

Were you able to get the Sort by Publication/Copyright Date to work? For some reason, it's not working for me, and I've poked around the web, and I'm wondering if Koha sorts on 008/7-10 (fixed length data elements, date 1) instead of 260$c. Of course our records don't have anything in 008 but the 260$c field was looking pretty good! Thanks, Sally.
