Converting to Koha
by Sue McMillan 10 Feb '11

10 Feb '11

Hello everyone, South Taranaki District Libraries are converting to Koha next month. We are really excited about the move and see it as a positive step forward. We are wondering if anyone has a test plan they used when converting that we could use as a starting point for developing our own test plan. Any advice or tips would also be welcome. Purging patron records
by Cab Vinton 10 Feb '11

10 Feb '11

Many libraries purge their patron records on a regular basis so that records don't exist for folks who've died, moved out of town, etc. My question is whether deleting a patron's record affects any circulation statistics attached to that record, so that future reports based on those stats could become inaccurate. If so, would it make sense to have the ability to "Withdraw" a patron, in the same way that items can be withdrawn instead of deleted? Cab Vinton, Director Sanbornton Public Library Sanbornton, NH

Basics of report writing
by Buster 10 Feb '11

10 Feb '11

Hello. We are investigating Koha for our next automation system and I have a couple of questions. First, is there a basic manual or help file out there for the novice? Maybe something that lists all of the possible terms and syntax structures, as well as tells you how to get to the report writing area? Second, we have a couple of supervisors with marginal computer expertise (I'm sure that comes off as ironic from someone who would ask the first question) who want to write their own reports. I'm nervous because in our current system (Dynix Classic), a lot of damage can be done when one is at the level for creating such reports, or has the security level to even get there. Is that something to be concerned about with Koha? Thanks for any help you can provide. --Jim Maroon

Allowing holds across libraries
by Peel Lisa 10 Feb '11

10 Feb '11

Hello again ! We have two campuses and I need to set up holds so that patrons from either library can place holds on items which are held at the other - these items can be checked out or available. (We previously had holds set so borrowers could only place holds on items at their library which were checked out) I have changed the most obvious system parameters but still when I try to place a hold on an item from the other library I get the 'Cannot place hold' message. What am I missing? I have: AllowOnShelfHolds set to ON Canreservefromotherbranches set to ON IndependentBranches set to ON Regards Lisa Lisa Peel Librarian César Ritz Colleges Switzerland 1897 Le Bouveret - Switzerland Tel: +41 24 482 82 82 Fax: +41 24 482 82 80 E-mail: lisa.peel(a)ritz.edu<mailto:hortense.hofer@ritz.edu> http://www.ritz.edu<http://www.ritz.edu/> - http://www.culinaryarts.ch<http://www.culinaryarts.ch/> 25 Year "César Ritz" Colleges Switzerland

Help with report
by Peel Lisa 10 Feb '11

10 Feb '11

Hello Apologies for showing my complete ignorance of sql but I need to create a report which lists catalogue records between two specific call numbers (for example, 641.5 to 641.6) - I need it to list author, title, edition and call number. Is there anything I can follow on the report wizard which will help me create this report or is anyone kind enough to give me the sql which would create this report? Thanks in advance Lisa Lisa Peel Librarian César Ritz Colleges Switzerland 1897 Le Bouveret - Switzerland Tel: +41 24 482 82 82 Fax: +41 24 482 82 80 E-mail: lisa.peel(a)ritz.edu<mailto:hortense.hofer@ritz.edu> http://www.ritz.edu<http://www.ritz.edu/> - http://www.culinaryarts.ch<http://www.culinaryarts.ch/> 25 Year "César Ritz" Colleges Switzerland

Another report request -- Active Cardholders
by Cab Vinton 10 Feb '11

10 Feb '11

There is a promising report on the Koha wiki (List Active Patrons by Category for a Specific Month). However, it doesn't seem to be providing valid results, even after changing "old_issues" to "issues". (The latter change produces counts in the single digits.) We're looking for a count of active borrowers between two dates, broken down by categorycode. ("Active" meaning at least one checkout between the two dates.) Appreciate any help! My Koha is up and going -- Looking for reading levels
by Darla Grediagin 09 Feb '11

09 Feb '11

Wow, I am feeling great that I have Koha 3.0 going. The new question I have is does anyone search their library catalogs by reading level. In 2.8, I could search by Lexile 360 and get all the books that had Lexile and 360 in the record. It wasn't perfect, but it was an additional way to search that my teacher's liked. Any ideas of how to set it up in 3.0?
