Trouble getting zebra to work

Hello all, I am having some trouble getting searches to work using zebra, and am suspicious that I may have caused my problems as I was going through the setup. I have set up a test server on Debian Lenny, using git to download koha. I am planning on doing some work that I hope to contribute back so chose a dev install when I was setting up. The files are in /home/doug/kohaclone and /home/doug/koha-dev . I was logged in as root when I ran the install routine, then changed ownership on all the files to the koha user later. After that, I restored one of my databases from my production server, copied the default koha-conf.xml and edited it to point to the correct database (named 'image'). I did the same with the koha-httpd.conf file, copying it and editing it where needed. While logged in as "koha", I would get an error when I tried to run rebuild_zebra.pl . I logged in as root and ran it that way and it didn't throw the error, but searches aren't finding anything. I then figured out that the new config files I created had root as the owner. I changed those to have koha as the owner. The rebuild_zebra.pl script would then run without throwing the error. I then read a post that indicated being logged in as root when running rebuild_zebra.pl would mess things up, as certain log files and lock files would get created with root as the owner and koha would not be able to access them. Any idea where I would find these files? I have several files in /home/doug/koha-dev/var/lock/zebradb/biblios but they are all owned by koha, not root. There is no koha directory in /var/log . I don't know what to expect from rebuild_zebra.pl . I am setting the KOHA_CONF and PERL5LIB variables. If I run "rebuild_zebra.pl -z -a -b" > /home/doug/zlog.txt the script appears to run (the cursor blinks for a bit, then the command prompt returns), and a 0 byte file named zlog.txt is created. If I change the system preferences setting to use the no zebra option, then run rebuild_nozebra.pl the indexes are built and searches work. Returning the system preferences to use zebra breaks things again. I have a feeling this is an ownership/permissions problem somewhere, either on some files or maybe relating to MySQL. I'm just not sure where to look or how to troubleshoot. Thanks for the look. Dear Nicole Engard and All, Thanks for publication of official vote site for the location of Koha Con 2011 and announcing the ranking system. We would appreciate if you could develop a system by which country name should also be made mandatory along with the Name of Institution. The ranking system should also be made publicly open just like the present system i.e. whenever a vote is given. This will make the voting system more transparent. Staged records auto match on ISBN

In the tools section, I recently tried to upload a file of MARC records to Koha. The match point was set to the ISBN (020$a) and I was notified of a match to a record already in my catalog. When I looked at the MARC records for the match however, the ISBN's are not the same and these two records should not have matched. This has happened several times and I am trying to figure out the reason for these matches. Any assistance would be appreciated! Advice needed on fixing zebra issues resulting from upgrade

Hello all, I am trying to upgrade a Koha installation from 3.0.1 to 3.2.2 I opted to install a fresh 3.2 on Ubuntu, then dropped the database and replaced it with the 3.0.1 database. Koha upgraded the database and though there were some few errors (Duplicate entry 'AllowRenewalLimitOverride' for key 'PRIMARY', Unknown column 'batch_id' in 'labels', Duplicate entry 'AllowNotForLoanOverride' etc) the upgrade worked quite well as far as I can tell. The installation was using NoZebra and searches work as usual. I changed to zebra (which was ok with the original 3.2.2 install), re-indexed but searches failed to work. On investigation, I discovered that the marc21 records in the upgraded database has different marc field mapping compared to the original 3.2.2 install. For instance Instead of 952$a as permanent location it is 952$d Instead of 999$c as biblionumber it is 090$c Instead of 999$d as biblioitemnumber it is 090$d Now I guess i have 2 options (from my knowledge) to correct this. Option 1: Change zebra configuration files so that the biblionumber etc will point to my upgraded installation's tags/fields. Option 2: Export out the Marc records and edit with markedit. Swap fields tags/fields as necessary and import back into Koha. Now my question is which option is the better? or do I have any additional option? if it's option 1, can someone recommend to me the zebra configuration files i need to change? Logging of fines

Hello all, Can anyone please confirm to me if the librarian who collected or wrote off a fine is logged. If it is not, then does anyone know the SQL to get this information out of the database? I have an installation running 3.0.1 and checking the fine log just puts kohaadmin (0) for all the fine events. Seems to me as if it is just logging the perl script "fines.pl". Advocating Koha for public libraries in Romania

Hi everybody !!! My name is Marius Stoica, I am a librarian at the Arad County Public Library<http://aradlibrary.org>from Romania. We are trying for some time to find the best and the most convenient Integrated Library System. We have finally two choices: our current ILS, a proprietary software that is immature and quite experimental and, of course, Koha. Next week I will make an official presentation of Koha and my colegues will have a trail period of about one week to test a Koha demo. Aftar that we will decide which of these two ILS to use and end this period of transition. In the last weeks I become quite familiar with Koha and a biG bIG BIG fan [?], I would like to see our library using Koha, even more, I would like to see a community of Koha users in my country. There are two small libraries that use Koha in Romania. Both are specialized academic libraries. Arad County Public Library <http://aradlibrary.org/> can be the first encyclopedic medium size library that uses Koha and this can be an extraordinary revelation for the other county libraries from Romania. Two ideas that can stand as a revelation: - first, there is the fact that with Koha you can implement a faster, easier and cheaper consortium network for all the libraries in a county, while in Romania there is no functional consortium of county public libraries; - second, there is the fact that librarians from Romania and the public servants in general are not aware of other choices regarding the IT infrastructure, i.e. free, open source software and the empowering and emancipation this kind of software can bring in the field of work. So, I want to have as many arguments as possible to advocate Koha in front of my colleges and the administration stuff of our library. I will appreciate any kind of support, advice or good thought.
