help writing report
by ksckemperman＠chartermi.net 23 Feb '11

I am *trying* to create some reports for teacher/library use. What I need is a report that will list for each teacher the students names and the book(s) they have checked out today. I'd like it to read something like this: borrower category, borrower #, surname, first name, title of book, barcode, date checked out I have written this report, which is getting close to what I want, but the title of the book is not coming up (do I have the wrong value for that column?) and instead of reporting just the books that are currently checked out, the report lists every book in that student's history. Can someone help me to correct it? I am using the build new reports function because I don't really understand the whole SQL thing :) SELECT borrowers.categorycode,borrowers.borrowernumber,borrowers.surname,borrowers.firstname,biblioitems.collectiontitle,items.barcode,items.datelastborrowed FROM borrowers LEFT JOIN statistics on (statistics.borrowernumber=borrowers.borrowernumber) LEFT JOIN items on (items.itemnumber = statistics.itemnumber) LEFT JOIN biblioitems on (biblioitems.biblioitemnumber = items.biblioitemnumber) WHERE borrowers.categorycode='3RD' 2nd question - how do I clear a patron's circulation history? I have been using my daughter's # to practice/test different functions and now she has a history that is not accurate. Thank you, Shelley

Errors while installing test Koha
by Buster 22 Feb '11

22 Feb '11

Hello, all. I am currently trying to install Koha 3.2.2 on Ubuntu 10.10 using the wiki page at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Ubuntu I make it to this step and work through all of the questions Install Koha *1 - Setup and Test* # perl Makefile.PL I then receive the following error: Writing Makefile for koha Unable to open MakeMaker.tmp: Permission denied at /usr/share/perl/5.10/ExtUtils/MakeMaker.pm line 996. Any clue where I am going wrong? Thanks in advance. --Jim Maroon -- ================================================== "The man, who, by his own and his family's labour, can provide a sufficiency of food and raiment and a comfortable dwelling place, is not a poor man."--William Cobbett, *Cottage Economy*, 1826. http://www.sufficientself.com

Batch import-updating of existing biblios
by hansbkk＠gmail.com 22 Feb '11

22 Feb '11

This isn't just a question on Koha's capabilities - I'm also seeking general advice from a workflow/process POV. Say I have a set of biblio records that are just the way I want them, in the sense of the accuracy of the existing data in the currently populated fields. And I would like to "add value" to them later on - say I find a MARC source that assigns subject headings in a way that I like, or adds links to cover images, etc. looking to selectively overlay/insert a subset of the new records into my existing ones. How does Koha handle this? Or would I be better off exporting my current records to MARC, using an external MARC editing tool to handle the merge and then re-import? Can anyone suggest tools for me to look at? I'm aware of biblios.net and MarcEdit so far. Obviously being able to do this in batch mode with reasonable matching rules would be ideal rather than one at a time, as long as I can review the results before "committing" the update. Or if it's really better to do this one record at a time, does that change the recommendation as to using Koha for the process? And finally, what if there are certain field values that I do want overwritten in addition to the new ones being brought in, but some fields shouldn't be touched at all? Thanks in advance. . .

Re: [Koha] Edit the Comments feature

My question on how to edit the comments feature has been solved. If interested, see below. Thanks. Regards, 2011/2/21 Cole Hudson *Note: my apologies to all who have already seen this post on the koha general list-serv* Hi all, I'm running Koha 3.02 on Ubuntu 10.10. I'm trying to edit the comments feature that displays with each record in the opac. I'd like to edit it where the name of the patron is not pulled from each patron record-so as to make comments anonymous. Could someone point me in the right direction here on what code to edit/remove? Thanks. Re: [Koha] imported reocrd indexing in KOHA
by Doug Dearden 22 Feb '11

Sohel, I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you saying you need to do this without having command line access? I don't know of any way to do this without some kind of command line access, that can either be a local login or via SSH if it is installed. For regular index updates a cron job needs to be set up to run rebuild_zebra.pl . Also, make sure you include the list in your replies. Someone with a better answer than myself may respond. Write back with more details about exactly what you are trying to do, and your system setup - is this a local machine that you have access to? What linux distro and version, what version of Koha, etc. Best, Doug From: sohel pathan [mailto:it_pathan@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, February 20, 2011 11:11 PM To: Doug Dearden Subject: Re: [Koha] imported reocrd indexing in KOHA Sir Thanks a lot for your consistent reply. I want to know that, Is it possible to generate index without executing rebuild_zebra.pl (means without touching the KOHA application)? ________________________________ From: Doug Dearden <dearden(a)sarsf.org> To: sohel pathan <it_pathan(a)yahoo.com> Sent: Fri, February 18, 2011 9:19:53 PM Subject: RE: [Koha] imported reocrd indexing in KOHA Sohel, To change ownership on all the files in the directory and all directories and files below, first cd to the correct directory - I think in the default install it is /usr/share/koha, if you are running a dev install it will be something different. Once you are in the right directory do "chown -R koha:koha ./" . That will change the ownership to the koha user and koha group on all files. You will need to run that when logged in as root. Also, there might be some zebra files in the /var/lib, /var/lock, /var/log, /var/run directories. Again I have a dev install so these get installed a little differently, I'm not positive about where they are on a default install. Patron Card Creator
by Vitor Fernandes 22 Feb '11

22 Feb '11

Hi there. I'm having a little problem with the module patron card creator. I've created a layout and a template in order to implement the patron card needed, but i'm having a problem with the printing. The cards most have the following dimensions: 7.7cm of width and 4.8cm of height, which i've set up correctly in the template Next the cards most be printed in A4 paper, so i've set up in the template, 21cm in page width and 29.7cm of height. The problem is that after export and print one batch with one card the card appears too small. If I reduce the page dimensions in the card appers in the right size. If I export and print a batch with some cards, the cards appears too smal and in the page change they are cut... I've tried to change the page dimensions with no success. So If someone can help me to configure this correctly, i'll be thankfully... I only want to print 4.8x7.7cm cards in A4 paper without no cuted cards on the page changes. Regards. Vitor Fernandes.

Software error from see reference
by Elaine Bradtke 22 Feb '11

22 Feb '11

This is the error message. (in 3.2) Software error: Can't call method "fields" on an undefined value at /usr/share/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/opac-authoritiesdetail.pl line 119. The above error message was generated by clicking on a link that appears at the top of the authority record when viewed in the OPAC using 'Browse by subject'. The URL for the catalogue is http://catalogue.efdss.org/ if you want to test it out for yourself. To see a list of terms with 260 fields type in 'not used' as the main entry heading under Browse by subject. The link also appears at the top of authority records in the staff interface with the same result. We have created reference records as a work around for the fact that search authorities/ browse by subject does not search the 4XX see from fields. The control number for the authority record is in 260 $0, and I assumed this was the link. But when I mouse over the link it says http://catalogue.efdss.org/cgi-bin/koha/opac-authoritiesdetail.pl?authid= Which makes me think it's not linking properly. Before I file a bug report I thought I'd check the collective wisdom to see if there's something I need to do on our end. -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 ext 36 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Registered Company No. 297142 Charity Registered in England and Wales No. 305999 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture" --Elvis Costello (Musician magazine No. 60 (October 1983), p. 52)

Customizing Filters
by Stefano Bargioni 22 Feb '11

22 Feb '11

I found a problem with the Availability Limit: it doesn't return results at all (Koha 3.2.3 on Debian 6). So my choice is to hide the Availability Limit. More: I'd like to change the order and the content of the left column "Refine your search", adding a language filter. Is this possible to customize filters? Thanks. Stefano
