Help required in configuring Koha 3.2
by Somasekhar Rao K 03 Mar '11

03 Mar '11

Hi, Good day. I am looking help for the following. 1. SMS setup: How to do SMS setup in Koha configuration for patrons in India? There are some APIs as said in this link http://www.smswala.co.in/smsapi.html But not sure how to use them in Koha configuration. (Patron Preferences, SMSSendDriver) 2. When I add multiple items (example same book having multiple copies) in the catalog, the tool is not generating different barcode numbers. May I know how to do the differentiation between the items of same type. autoBarCode is set to "generated in the form <branchcode>yymm0001". 3. How to do entries for the books which doesn't have ISBN or ISSN or not listed in libraries like Library of Congress etc., Can you please help me out in configuring Koha for above points? Thanks in advance, Soamsekhar Rao K

Is it possible to change the session timeout in Koha 3 ?
by Thierry Delettre 03 Mar '11

03 Mar '11

Hi there everybody, Is it possible to change the session timeout in Koha v3 ? After something like 15 mn inactivity you have to login again, and it bugs the library staff a lot. I have seen a system preference named timeout in the Admin tab, but it does not seem like it's the thing I am looking for : - its default value is huge (12000000 seconds), but timeout occurs after about 15 mn. (I'm sure everybody in this library would like a session timeout of 12000000 seconds, of course) - it is defined as something related to cookies authentication - it is recommended not to change this setting (why ?) Is there another system preference I have overlooked, or even a value hardcoded somewhere in the Koha source that could be modified to change the session timeout ? Thanks a lot, and have a nice day, Thierry D --- Thierry Delettre Responsable Informatique Bibliothèque de l'Ecole des Mines de Paris email : thierry.delettre(a)mines-paristech.fr

cron jobs under Debian koha-common & koha-create
by hansbkk＠gmail.com 03 Mar '11

03 Mar '11

I'm still figuring out how to setup and configure my Koha - using multiple instances via koha-common and koha-create - excellent work BTW, works a treat for testing! After setting Authorities, I checked the system preferences' "dontmerge" and I saw the note about "ask your administrator to enable the merge_authorities.pl cronjob" (I wish I had an administrator 8-) I haven't messed with cron for a while, so I'll be brushing up, but I see the /etc/cron.d/koha-common takes care of the Zebra indexing - I just can't figure out how it handles the multiple instances (isn't it supposed to be running as the kohauser in each case? If I want to add other cronjobs, should I just add to that file, or should I set up a "normal" crontab for root? Should I copy over lines from koha's crontab.example (less the duplicated zebra one of course)? Thanks in advance. . .

Retrieving records that use diacriticals
by Paula Corman 02 Mar '11

02 Mar '11

We are cataloging many non-English titles that use diacriticals. In order to resolve the issue of searching by author or title without using diacriticals, I used the 720 tag (Uncontrolled Name) but when I try to retrieve the record on that field, I cannot bring it up. Should I use indicators or omit them? Is the name inverted or regular order? Should I use another tag? And while I'm on the topic of foreign languages, what about alternative tags for title? Generate Barcodes in one shot from database & Koha enc
by sheldon_tappin 02 Mar '11

02 Mar '11

Hi All, We're at the stage of generating bar-codes for our collection. I've noticed that I can individually add bar-codes to the batch from the search criteria provided. My aim is to grab all bar-codes from the database, order them by item call number and add them to a batch to generate bar-code labels for our books. Now, my question: can I add all barcodes in one go to batch to generate bar-code labels. If the above-mentioned is yes, then how can I do this? Also, we would like to add patron information from a management system database into koha, I've noticed that Koha ILS borrowers passwords are encrypted, so... can anyone tell me what encryption is used to encrypt the patrons' password field in the database. Thank you for the responses in advance, it's greatly appreciated. full call number import
by TSBC Librarian 02 Mar '11

02 Mar '11

We have just transferred all our records from a windows based 2.2.9 to a Linux based 3.02 - a steep learning curve but it seems to have gone well so far. However we have noted that itemtype and call number did not appear in the record. We solved the itemtype by batch changes. However, it appears that we have to solve the call number issue item by item (yes, over 5000 of them). When we open the edit function for the item we can see the call number sitting there in 952o so it has imported from 852a quite happily. However, it does not show in the record, OPAC or back end, till we edit then save, item by item. Does anyone know of a way to do bulk saves or is there something we can run to do this for us. It is very time consuming opening each item only to save information already showing there. Trouble importing authorities, unimarc, koha 3.2.5
by Marilen Corciovei 02 Mar '11

02 Mar '11

Hello, We are trying to import authorities and biblios from an old system into koha but we've run into several problems. There is another recent thread related to authorities import but I don't think the problems are related. Our problem is as following. We tried to import authorities from a marc file with the following format: LDR 00119nx a22000613 009 HERBERT, FRANK 200 _aHERBERT _bFRANK 801 0 _aRO _bARBJ using the bulkauthimport.pl tool. The tool gives no error and 1 item seems imported. However we can see nothing in the interface. I also tried to use the stated import from the interface but after some research I found a thread saying it is only used for biblios and not authorities. Upon some digging we noticed the following warn in zebraidx: 22:24:10-01/03 zebraidx(1209) [warn] /usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/authorities/etc/dom-config-marc.xml: stylesheet authority-zebra-indexdefs.xsl not found in path /usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/authorities/etc:/usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/etc:/usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/marc_defs/unimarc/authorities:/usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/lang_defs/en:/usr/share/koha325bjarad/etc/zebradb/xsl Is there a xsl for unimarc? I don't know if this is causing the problem. The entries are imported and not indexed? Or they are not even imported. Is the marc format wrong for unimarc? Also it seems that the unimarc install only creates the default authority type. In marc21 there are several created. Can this be a cause of problems? Also, again unrelated to the previous problems when searching for authorities from the create biblio page the following error occurs: Premature end of script headers: auth_finder.pl, referer: http://10.10.0.12:8002/cgi-bin/koha/authorities/auth_finder.pl?authtypecode… It seems there is no luck for authorities today. Thank you for any help. Kind regards, Len www.len.ro
