Koha question about search/indexing results
by Linda Culberson 18 Apr '11

18 Apr '11

All, I may be misunderstanding how some of the links in Koha work, or we could have a problem with our authorities. Either way, I'd appreciate any help and/or insight. In Koha, if I do just a general keyword search for "Mississippi Dept of Transportation" I get 180 results. If I do an author search I get 150 results If I click on one of the links for which that department is the author, and then click on its "by" link it goes to an:7261 and I only get 16 results. Some of those are the department as subject and others as it as author. I thought au was the author index, and am assuming it is using the authorities? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. -- Linda Culberson lculber(a)mdah.state.ms.us Archives and Records Services Division Ms. Dept. of Archives & History P. O. Koha 3.2.5 OPAC search won't work
by hchen 18 Apr '11

18 Apr '11

I am new to both ubuntu/linux and Koha, and I installed ubuntu 10.10 and Koha 3.2.5 with Koha Live CD by Mizstik. The Koha system is set to Unimarc during installation and two Unimarc records were imported through Z39.50 servers for testing purpose. After some minor tuning which I don't remember exactly, I can search the catalog in librarian interface with no problem, but OPAC search find no result. One record was added to a list and is accessible with the "lists" button on OPAC front page, but it wasn't searchable, eliminating the possibility that the record is suppressed in OPAC. I edited the unimarc record.abs as stated in http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Zebra-indexing-problem-of-unimarc-file-td… this post etc/zebradb/marc_defs/unimarc/biblios/record.abs and try to rebuild zebra index: $ /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -r -v -w Zebra configuration information ================================ Zebra biblio directory = /var/lib/koha/zebradb/biblios Zebra authorities directory = /var/lib/koha/zebradb/authorities Koha directory = /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin BIBLIONUMBER in : 001$@ BIBLIOITEMNUMBER in : 090$a ================================ skipping authorities ==================== exporting biblio ==================== 1. It seems that these two process somehow create or modify files in /var/lock/koha/zebradb/ for every time I turn on the computer and the owner of these files would root again even though they were chown last time, and it cause [Permission denied] while zebra reindexing. Is there some guide for changing koha user properly? -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Koha-3-2-5-OPAC-search-won-t-work-tp42649… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Subfields 952 $i, $k
by Paul 18 Apr '11

18 Apr '11

[Apologies for cross-posting, users and devel] Marc 952 $i, $k are not used in "standard" Koha. They can be added to the default framework (allowed by Koha), but this appears to require a modification to the Mysql structure. Has anyone tried to do this? Background: for Serials, we want to add at *item* level "Extended Keywords" (952$z is limited to 255 characters) and "Abstracts" (at *biblio* level, we use 520 $a and $b.) This will require new "Koha Fields" - e.g, in the same way that 952$z uses "items.itemnotes" we will need to introduce "items.itemkeywords" and "items.itemabstracts". I am looking for suggestions as to how to best add these fields so that they can be usefully searched by the OPAC - and of course for any pitfalls or showstoppers. Thanks Paul Tired old sys-admin

Is there a way to get the biblionumber into MARC field 001 for bib records?
by Magnus Enger 18 Apr '11

18 Apr '11

Hi all! Norway will soon have a new meta-search for libraries, based on harvesting records through OAI-PMH and creating a central index. One of the requirements for getting into the meta-search is that the last part of the OAI-PMH record identifiers (e.g. "2" in "oai:bibkat.no:NO-1120127:2") corresponds to the contents of MARC field 001. What it actually looks like does not matter too much, as long as it is a *locally* unique identifier for the record. An easy fix for this would be to put the biblionumber into MARC field 001. Is there a way to do this without changing the code of Koha? E.g. some trick with frameworks and mappings? I have tried to think of something clever, but have come up empty handed... (I have created a bug related to this, suggesting that 001 always be used as the identifier for OAI-PMH, or that a syspref be created to let a library choose whether to use biblionumber or 001 as identifier for OAI-PMH: http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=6198 ) Best regards, Magnus Enger libriotech.no

No authorities linked!
by martin caris 18 Apr '11

18 Apr '11

Hello, I have a problem with my authorities: I catalog my book in the framework and I save my bibliographic record, but when I see my authority record, no authorities are linked. How is it possible? Koha version: 3.02.05. Another question: is it possible to create, in the field 952 (copy field), my own subfields? Thank you. Martin Caris

3.2.x Roadmap Update
by Chris Nighswonger 16 Apr '11

16 Apr '11

Hi all, With the release of 3.2.7 and the eminent release of 3.4.0, I want to let the community know what my plans are moving forward. Due to the excellent work during the recent hack-fest sponsored by Biblibre, there were a multitude of bugfixes which did not make it into 3.2.7. My plans are to begin work on getting these backported into the 3.2.x branch over the next week or so. Because there are such a large number, I will be releasing 3.2.8 on May 15, 2011. I had originally intended to go to a bi-monthly release schedule for 3.2.x after the release of 3.2.0. This will still be the case, but will be delayed until the release of 3.2.8. Subsequent 3.2.x releases will take place on the 15th of the month with 3.4.x releases taking place on the 22nd of the month. ***Translators please take especial note of the above dates.*** As long as there are commits to backport to 3.2.x, I will release on a bi-monthly schedule. If there are no commits during a two month period, no release will be made. If you have template related bugfixes you want included in 3.2.x, it will be your responsibility to ensure that they apply correctly to the current 3.2.x branch. With the switch to TT in master, backporting template commits will be nigh impossible. Of course any related underlying logic changes should be applicable to the current 3.2.x branch as well. After the 3.2.10 release, I will add an agenda item for the next monthly IRC to discuss EOL of the 3.2.x branch. The results of that discussion will determine the direction of 3.2.x from that point forward. I plan to handle 3.4.x maintenance in the same fashion as I have handled 3.2.x. If anyone has any suggestions for improvement, please speak up! I'm very open to suggestions, critiques, etc. Thanks to everyone for the hard work being put into Koha lately. Things have moved along at a fantastic rate! Keep up the good work. Kind Regards, Chris Nighswonger Koha 3.2.x/3.4.x Release Maintainer
