by R Sunil Kumar 22 Jun '11

22 Jun '11

Dear All, I have uploaded the book database through "Stage MARC Records for Import" using MARCEdit software. Now as I have tested the system. How can I delete the book details in one go. Deleting the database one by one in Editing option of Koha is feasible. Deleting the item type category is also not possible as there are items associated with particular item category. Please help on this. Date and time of next Kohacon11 volunteers meeting
by Koustubha Kale 22 Jun '11

22 Jun '11

Hi All, I had to miss the last scheduled volunteers meeting and since there were only two attendees they decided to postpone the meeting. Attendance at Kohacon11 volunteers meeting in the #koha irc channel has been poor. So here I am requesting the community to discuss & decide over email exchange, the date and timing of the next meeting so that as many as possible people may attend. Setting the ball rolling for KohaCon12
by Magnus Enger 22 Jun '11

22 Jun '11

Dear Community, At the last IRC meeting I volunteered to "set the ball rolling" for KohaCon12, so here goes... So far I have created a page on the wiki for collecting proposals from anyone interested in hosting KohaCon12: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Proposals_for_KohaCon12 Please add yourself to the table on that page if you or your organization is interested in hosting KohaCon in 2012! I have also added some related items (deadlines for proposals and voting) to the agende of the next IRC meeting: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/General_IRC_Meeting,_6_July_2011#Agenda Please add more issues if you see any that need discussion! Best regards, Magnus Enger

653 uncontrolled terms
by Elaine Bradtke 22 Jun '11

22 Jun '11

We are looking at importing a batch of records from what will be in Koha a branch library which uses their own set of terms, generated arbitrarily by the fellow doing the cataloguing. These do not match any standard thesaurus, or even our in house thesaurus, but are useful to the users of their very specialized collection. I was looking again at 653 Index Term-Uncontrolled (MARC 21), which we had originally planned to use for our own non-standard terms, but abandoned because we could never get the field to function properly. I want to load the branch's terms into subject fields without any authority (uncontrolled). Where they will be fully searchable. I went into the MARC framework and switched off the authority control for the 653 $a. But in creating or editing a record, it still insists on linking to an authority. I don't want to create system-wide authority records for these terms as they are inconsistently applied, and extremely local in nature. I'm flummoxed. Plan B is to put them into a notes field, which is not really ideal. . . -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 ext 36 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Registered Company No. 297142 Charity Registered in England and Wales No. 305999 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture" --Elvis Costello (Musician magazine No. 60 (October 1983), p. 52)

Using both barcode number and accession number in Koha
by R Sunil Kumar 22 Jun '11

22 Jun '11

Dear All, I would like to know whether we can use both Accession Number and Barcode in Koha. Accession is simple number series whereas barcode is customized like BK000001 something. Accession number is used for the patron to easily identify the book number, barcode is used for the fast / easy circulation process. Need your help. Re: [Koha] Koha 3.4 on Ubuntu
by ajesh＠maxenna.com 21 Jun '11

Initially I added the following lines to ports.conf. Listen 80 Listen 8080 NameVirtualHost*:80 NameVirtualHost*:8080 Then on executing the command >> sudo apache2ctl restart ***************************************************** Syntax error on line 10 of /etc/apache2/ports.conf: Invalid command 'NameVirtualHost*:80', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration Action 'restart' failed. The Apache error log may have more information. ***************************************************** Hence I commented out the NameVirtualHost lines Now my ports.conf has the below lines Listen 80 Listen 8080 But still not able to open the web page. There are few additional things which I suspect might be the reason why I am not able to open the web page properly, 1) ********************** During the installation, after I install Ubuntu Packages from List, I execute the command >> install_misc/ubuntu-pkg-check.sh | grep none and see that the following is reported libyaz3 = (none) libyaz3-dev = (none) But in Synaptic package manager I can see that libyaz4 is installed. ********************** 2) ********************** Also on running >> sudo make install I got the message Warning: prerequisite CGI::Session::Driver::memcached 0.04 not found. So I executed the command >> sudo cpan CGI::Session::Driver::memcached at that time(ie after sudo make install) ********************** I believe I am close to getting Koha installed, but still few doubts. Also, I am following the installations steps mentioned at the below link. Is this the right one for Koha3.4 also. http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Ubuntu If there is an alternate link which I can try, please let me know the path. Problem after upgrade to 3.4.1
by Seth Mayo 21 Jun '11

21 Jun '11

I finished upgrading to Koha 3.4.1 and then realised that I had missed the following two lines in the README.ubuntu file. So I've now executed them. The second needed to be run in sudo because of permission errors. misc/maintenance/remove_items_from_biblioitems.pl --run misc/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -r Now after running these, we have no records appearing in any searches anywhere! Any ideas or things to try? Considering that the second is a zebra rebuild I'm guessing it didn't rebuild correctly??? Note: I ran these scripts from /usr/share/koha/maintenance & /usr/share/koha/migration_tools as misc/ didn't have these there... Which is a book's unique identifier?
by Mahesh T Pai 21 Jun '11

21 Jun '11

Dear All, Probably a silly question, but I am not a librarian. Koha version is currently 3.4.1; and previously, it was 3.00.00.107. The librarian says that they used to search for a book by barcode number, The number they refer to as barcode number is what is found at biblionumber column in table biblio. This is also same as what is called "accession number". Now, Is barcode same as accession number? For some reason, I feel that should not be same - accession number would be unique to each library; bar code may not be? (or have I misunderstood?) Again, biblioitemnumber is autogenerated, but books need not be entered into the data base in same order as they are acquired - especially when a library is newly moving into Koha. The search result by bar code is very inconsistent between opac and staff client. Same code _sometimes_ shows up as not found in staff client. This is apart from the problem already reported here, wher search for 123 throwing results for 123[0-9] also. Probably, both me and the librarian have not got at least some concepts about Koha. Some elaboration would be appreciated. -- Mahesh T. Pai || Distribute Free Software -- Help stamp out Software Hoarding!
