Issue: When I migrate the database, the system is taking multiple copies (for example 5 copies or 7 copies) and all the details mentioned above is individually appearing in each copy. Please help on the same. Hackfest at ALA
by Chris Cormack 25 Jun '11

25 Jun '11

Hi All As some of you might be aware, I am heading over to the US for ALA (flying out at 7am tomorrow morning). While I am there, it would seem like a good/fun thing to do would be to have a little hackfest one evening. This will be open to all levels of ability, from people who can code through to people who want to learn, and people who just have good ideas. When we know the hotel room, we'll send out another invite. But please if possible do come along. It should be a bunch of fun and who knows we might even fix a bug or two and create some new features. What Colour Am I? by Brooke Johnson Chris Cormack world renowned SLS strikes again. This time, he brought us a very cool bug visualisation. http://bugs.koha-community.org/cgi-bin/bug_status.pl We know we’re well behind on signoffs if we’re in the red. As I wrote this, thanks to Global Sign Off Day, I’m looking at a glorious yellow 46. It was wonderful to watch how motivational this was. Developers threw down just to get the colour to change and the number to decrease. Wouldn’t this be neat as a widget? Wiki Open For Contributors Again by MJ Ray The Koha wiki is one of the simplest places for users to collaborate on documentation about Koha, how to use it, how it’s been used and a lot of other topics. The wiki can send out email again now, which means that new contributors can register and actually validate their email address, which means they can edit pages. If you registered during the recent problems, please visit http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Special:Preferences to log in and request a new validation email. If you would like to register, please visit http://wiki.koha-community.org/w/index.php?title=Special:OpenIDLogin with your social media account from WordPress, Livejournal, Yahoo, Google or any other OpenID-enabled site, or http://wiki.koha-community.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&type=sig… to register with an email address. Please help us improve the documentation by registering with the wiki and editing some pages. Koha Events Global Sign Off Day 15.06.2011 by Brooke Johnson How great are our developers? Wonderful, of course! Magnus Enger, Katrin Fischer, and Chris Cormack proved once again that cool things happen on IRC! 07:36 magnuse maybe we should declare a global signing off day before summer? (drawn from http://stats.workbuffer.org/irclog/koha/2011-06-07) and just days later, it happened. 22 lovely bug contestants were sent on through to the next stage, including a critical and a major. Alas, 7 failed QA, but they’ll be back for our second chance round after a retool. For a blow by blow description, visit the wiki: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Global_sign_off_day,_2011-06-15 We couldn’t have done this without everyone’s help. Thank you all. This is a great example of just how quickly things can progress when folks get together and roll up their sleeves. Nau te rourou, naku te rourou, ka ora ai te tangata. Symposium Koha – Lyon (France) 2011 by Pascale Nalon, president of KohaLa association University libraries of Lyon 2, Lyon 3 and Saint-Etienne (together representing approximately 80,000 students and 900,000 items) have switched from their proprietary software to Koha in 2010-2011. In this context of re-computerization, the third Koha symposium was organized by University Lyon 2 for May 26 and 27. During the two days, 130 participants from public or private libraries joined conferences about open source and open data, the history of Koha, the experience of Inter-Universities, cooperation for implementation of Koha in libraries, work reorganization and other workshops (Birt and JasperReports, SQL, XSLT, install party). These conferences and workshops hosted by french companies providing services around Koha and other softwares (Progilone, Tamil and Biblibre) and some librarians of different institutions. Students of “CoLibre”, bachelor of communication and open source software, participated to the organisation. The new thing about this symposium, was the presence of open source exhibitors (free music, associations promoting Open Source and enterprises). Articles, videos and podcasts are available online. Koha General Meeting: 6 July 2011 by MJ Ray There will be a general meeting in the #koha IRC channel (IRC server irc.oftc.net) on 6 July 2011 at 10:00 UTC+0. As well as discussing the future development of the Koha software, it will also consider when to end free support for the 3.2 version (it will remain available, but no new releases will be made) and discuss the Koha Conferences. You can read the agenda and register your intentions or apologies at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/General_IRC_Meeting,_6_July_2011. Newsletter edited by Nicole C. Deb package causes conflicts
by Tomasz Holdowanski 25 Jun '11

25 Jun '11

Hello, I`m trying to set up Koha 3.2.9 from .deb package, but there`s a version conflict in one of required packages: Koha requires apache-mpm-itk 2.2.16-6, I have installed apache2-mpm-prefork 2.2.16-6+squeeze1. Debian version 6.0.1. Trying to resolve this resulted in more conflicts. Is there a way to install Koha from deb package without having to downgrade a bunch of other packages? Regards, Mordazy.

Our Koha Update Steps
by Fred Pierre 25 Jun '11

25 Jun '11

We recently updated from 3.0 to 3.2 and we are testing a 3.4 installation. Here are the steps we used to complete the update: 1. Restore data from most recent mysqldump: 30 to 40 minutes Employ the drop table list for koha_pro to batch drop individual tables, or DROP DATABASE koha_pro ; CREATE DATABASE koha_pro ; koha_pro< [path to/] kohamainbakup.sql 2. Run update script to conform database: 20 to 20 minutes installer/data/mysql/updatedatabase.pl 3. [Koha 3.4 UPDATE REQUIRES, not neccessary for earlier version updates!!!] Run data cleanup: misc/maintenance/remove_items_from_biblioitems.pl 4. Modify the zebra configuration to allow enough memory to process MARC xml: koha/koha-dev/etc/zebradb/zebra-biblios.cfg change lines /var/lib/zebradb/biblios/register:4G to 40G var/lib/zebradb/biblios/shadow:4G to 40G (we also raised the RAM allocation from 50M to 120M) 5. Rebuild Zebra indexing. A. Run as koha user, not as root - requires ./ to run script, perl directory is kohaclone. B. [To prevent cronjob conflict, disable cronjobs, create donotindex folder, or run from crontab. Remember to re-enable these on the working server, so that future item changes may be indexed for search.] ./kohaclone/misc/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -x -r [Add a -v for verbose output] ./kohaclone/misc/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -a -r [Add a -v for verbose output] [Note: The -x rebuilds the xml for the MARC record.] If index does not rebuild correctly, run an additional rebuild_zebra.pl -b to restore the index. Check that items are barcode scanning properly. [Our cronjobs index with the -z switch (only updates selected zebraqueue records), instead of the -x -r, which takes longer, however -z only re-indexes items in the zebraqueue!] 6. Copy over staffglobal.css changes, if customized: /kohaclone/koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/prog/en/css/staff-global.css 7. Copy over custom page templates - for example, Acqui template (acqui-home.tmpl) changes: /kohaclone/koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/acqui/acqui-home.tmpl 8. Copy over koha.pm patch, enables status "Available" when item status list is customized (e.g."MENDING"). /kohaclone/C4/koha.pm (removes "$selected &&" [line 1006 in the koha.pm from v3.2]) 9. Copy modified staff client login logo to /kohaclone/koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/prog/img/koha-logo-medium.gif 10. IP addressing: Either 1. New server takes IP address from old server, or 2. Firewall settings need to be adjusted for new server IP address. Apache and MySQL configuration may need to be adjusted in /etc: mysql/bind.cnf, hosts, apache2/koha [Port configuration in koha-conf may need to be adjusted] 11. Update Koha Extras [Applies only to external php custom-script servers hosting kohaextras3] IP address problem: Scripts on the php server are directed to the IP address of the older version of Koha. Either the scripts must be adjusted (search and replace) or the new Koha must take the IP of the old Koha. 12. Lock down security; harden the web server: Restrict access to root account. Limit access to GUI, restrict access to command-line-only. Harden Apache configuration. Test remote access filtering, restricted to specified IP addresses. -- end -- -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Our-Koha-Update-Steps-tp4521037p4521037.h… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
