Re: [Koha] I can access de staff client but not the OPAC
by Olugbenga Adara 23 Jun '11

Hello Martin, If you are using webmin, then when you go to servers - Apache webserver, it should show you your virtual servers and what ports they are running on. Since you are running on Linode, if things are too screwed up you may just start all over again. But if you say the staff client is working, fixing this should be easy. Can you let me know what virtual hosts you have - server name, document root and port? I just supposed it would be in 8081 like the times I installed koha in my local network... I added "Listen 8081" and "Listen 8080" (for the staff client) in ports.conf, but for some reason the staff client works, but the opac doesn't. Besides, I have been tinkering with the Apache webserver options in webmin trying to fix this... but I may have made it worse I know there must be an easy solution for this, but I am fairly new to these technologies and self-taught, so I lack some basic knowledge about them. I hope you can help me 2011/6/22 Olugbenga Adara <gbengaadara(a)yahoo.com> --- On Wed, 6/22/11, teleute <surferpoint9819(a)gmail.com> wrote: > I have just installed Koha 3.4.1 in a Linode virtual > private server and I > can access the staff client without problems, but I can't > access the OPAC. > > I have tried entering the ip and the port 8081 > (xxx.xx.xxx.xxx:8081), and > it says "404 not found". (the apache message) What port did you install the OPAC on? What OS are you using? You may need to disable the default host configuration in Apache if you are using port 80 for your OPAC. you may also need to have the port specified in ports.conf if using another port other than 80. I have a site on Linode running Debian squeeze and Koha 3.2.9 (debian package) and I only needed to tell apache to listen on port 81. (my opac is on port 81) and everything was fine. > > This is the first time I use a virtual server, so I feel a > bit lost. Koha - getting other fields to appear
by Linda Culberson 22 Jun '11

22 Jun '11

Koha, I've asked this before, but is there any way to add fields to display? The "hidden" setting in the framework fields apparently only applies to the MARC view. Is there any way or interest in getting it to apply to the other views? We are especially interested in getting the linking entry fields (77X-78X) but it could really apply to anything. catalog search options

Does anyone know how to reduce the search options in the public OPAC? We don't use call numbers at our library, and would like to eliminate the option from the dropdown searchbar list. Thanks! I can access de staff client but not the OPAC
by teleute 22 Jun '11

22 Jun '11

Hello, I have just installed Koha 3.4.1 in a Linode virtual private server and I can access the staff client without problems, but I can't access the OPAC. I have tried entering the ip and the port 8081 (xxx.xx.xxx.xxx:8081), and it says "404 not found". If I try the port 80, it says "it works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet." (the apache message) This is the first time I use a virtual server, so I feel a bit lost. I would like to make the OPAC the homepage of my site, but I don't know how. I would appreciate your help. Thank you very much :) -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/I-can-access-de-staff-client-but-not-the-… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Summary of Global Signoff Day 2011-06-15 - more to come?
by Magnus Enger 22 Jun '11

22 Jun '11

Dear Community! * GSOD #1 Our very first Global Signoff Day (GSOD) was held on 2011-06-15. During the 48 hours that make up a day in all available time zones, we reduced the number of bugs that had status "Needs signoff" from about 76 to about 45. (There were some bugs that got the "Needs Signoff" status during the day, which complicates counting somewhat...) You can see a more or less complete list of what bugs were changed here: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Global_sign_off_day,_2011-06-15 See the bottom of this page for some more numbers, and keep in mind that the dates there are relative to UTC: http://bugs.koha-community.org/cgi-bin/progress.pl As far as I can tell we were about 6 people signing off on things during GSOD #1, which is not an astronomical figure, but i still think we made some good inroads into the queue. (A number of the remaining bugs are actually ones that depend on other bugs that have failed QA, so they are not really available for signing off.) Imagine what we could have done if there were more of us... ;-) * GSOD #2 BibLibre have said all their staff will dedicate half a day every two weeks to signing off on bugs and similar tasks (woohoo!). I would like to propose another GSOD to coincide with their first such day, which is scheduled for 2011-07-08. Motto: "The more, the merrier"! Some questions spring to mind: - How can we get more people involved? - Should the name of the "event" reflect that other activities (such as closing bugs) are encouraged too? - How can we make it even more fun? -- Better/other lists and visualisations? -- Could we have the huginn bot on IRC annonunce new signoffs, the same way it does "needs signoff"s? -- Could we use some kind of VoIP/videoconferencing tools to make the social interactions seem more um... "real"? Or is GSOD a really bad idea, would it be better to channel our energy into making signoffs (and similar activities) look more like an ongoing task, and less something you only have to think about once a month? Best regards, Magnus Enger
