Re: [Koha] Introduction and incredibly slow searches

What version of koha are you running? Where did you download it? I noticed that you went "through the examples on liblime.com". If that is where you downloaded koha then you are not running the community version of koha. Regardless of what koha you are running, check the output of the command "top". That should give you an idea of what is taking up time in the process. Are all these machines on a local network? Is ping response between the machines reasonable? I’m running the latest stable koha-common 3.6 (updated a few minutes ago) on Debian 6.0.3. I have successfully entered in a record for one book. When I search from the initial koha page it takes ~4 seconds to find this item. Then once the item has loaded if I click one of the links for a searchable item (author, details, etc.) it takes ~4-5 seconds for it to load. When I open all of these options at the same time in new tabs it takes forever. It seems to be an almost linear increase in the time it takes for the searches to complete. Also, each new tab running a different search will continue to run until one has finished, then once one has finished another will go. This process is ~4 seconds for each search. Seems like all searches are in a very slow queue. So for this example book I have in the system there are 7 items that are searchable. If I go through and open each in a separate tab the total process for all of this is 30+seconds. I tried running a webserver load test with just 10 users clicking on a different link each time the new page loaded and it failed horribly with an average page load wait of 50 seconds I really don’t know where to go to look for what’s causing this. When I use the “browse by author or subject search”, the authority search results page comes back in less than 2 seconds. Though it does show 0 biblios records (no clue what that is) I’ve gone through many example sites found here: http://www.liblime.com/demos And they don’t seem to have this same issue. Any help. Thought, direction would be greatly appreciated! Advance media booking
by HS Davoodifar 27 Oct '11

27 Oct '11

T Greetings, One of the services we have is to book (place holds) and deliver media to patrons. The ILS we are running has an older application that gets the job done but with some issues. To give you a better idea, advance media booking is a calendar based application that more or less functions similar to hotel or airline reservation programs. Or we may think of it as a rental service program to do advance booking to loan such media as DVDs, Videos, Kits, Models, etc. The application is linked to both catalogue and circulation modules to access patron files, keeping track of loans, rental charges, packing slips, delivery mode (mail, courier, in-person pickup, etc.), and handling charges, invoice generation, printing statement of activities, etc. I'm am wondering if Koha has or can handle a calendar based advance booking application. Kind regards, __Sam Davoodifar Systems Admin

Dear Community! After colluding with my fellow bug wrangler Katrin I'd like to propose a date for the next GBSD: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/2011-11-04_Global_bug_squashing_day This coincides with the first day of the hackfest at KohaCon11. Maybe we could get a bit of a Google Hangout going, or something? We'll see... Anyway: Be there or be [_]! Best regards, Magnus

by Chris Nighswonger 27 Oct '11

This is not intended to be impolite, but you need to post your questions to the koha user's list as I mentioned in my previous response. If your problem is urgent, you will need to seek out paid support. You may find a list of Koha paid support providers on the community website at this location: http://koha-community.org/support/paid-support/continent/#asia With due respect, I will be unable to respond, forward, or otherwise address direct email from you in the future. Introduction and incredibly slow searches

Barcode and spine label printing in Koha
by Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz 26 Oct '11

26 Oct '11

> Is it possible to print both barcodes and spine labels on the same > sheet? I see Gaylord has a label set, Gaylord LSL04 for both barcode and > spine labels. If so, does someone have a template for this or similar? Since Koha uses MySQL as a backend for the data, one can use any number of programs that have open database connectivity to access the data and print custom reports and labels. I am most familiar with MS Access as a good front end for making nice reports and labels. I have also set up LibreOffice/OpenOffice Base as a front end to the data to make custom reports and labels. This is how we do patron cards. One of these days I'll post my database frontend on the wiki with a how to. Once the open database connectors are installed, it is simply a matter of connecting to the database with the right password. I give only read privileges to this database so as not to mess up any of the MySQL data. It is some learning to become familiar with database front ends, but once you get the basics down, you can customize to your heart's content without needing to know any code. Knowing this key skill will also enable you to do lots of customized letters to the patrons or bulk email notifications.

I just noticed that Logout of the Staff Client for 3.4.5 is not working properly. Choosing logout gives a blank screen, but returning to the Staff Client shows I'm still logged in.
