Koha-Kobli in Spanish Ministry of the Presidency Library
by info.sgcb＠mecd.es 28 May '12

28 May '12

Good morning, Spanish Ministry of the Presidency Library ( http://mpr.bage.es ) goes live on Koha-Kobli. It is the result of migration of data from the previous library management system and opens the possibility of access to specialized collections in law, politics, history, social sciences, etc. contained in this library. The main mission of the Library of the Ministry of the Presidency is to provide bibliographic support services to the Ministry staff. This project is included in the action of the General Coordination Committee for the General State Authority Libraries (CGCBAGE) of implementing, in a coordinated way, the library management system Koha-Kobli in certain libraries in its network. This action is implemented by the Subdirectorate General of Library Coordination of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports as CGCBAGE secretariat. Further information at http://kobli.bage.es/implantacion-de-koha-kobli-1-4-en-las-bages-biblioteca… Best regards, Domingo Arroyo Koha-Kobli Coordinator Subdirectorate General of Library Coordination Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports Plaza del Rey, 1 28071 Madrid (Spain) info.kobli(a)mecd.es http://kobli.bage.es

Use of Google Analytics and +1 on Koha website
by Mirko 28 May '12

28 May '12

Dear list, it came to my attention that the Koha website (http://www.koha-community.org/) includes code of Google Analytics and Google +1. I am wondering why a free and open source software community would use a corporation's spyware like Google Analytics on their users. More so as the site also includes code for Piwik analytics which runs locally on the Koha server afaics and seems to do the same things Google Analytics does, minus the "give all your data to an evil corporation"-part -- if you think analysing Koha users is neccessary. I would appreciate a discussion about the why and personally prefer these things to disappear so I am able to send people to the community website in good conscience. Have a nice weekend, Mirko

For those of you who'd like to find a free, open-source, community-supported alternative to Google Analytics that offers essentially the same features without compromising on privacy, I'd like to recommend Piwik <http://piwik.org/>. I've been using it for more than a year now on several websites, and it's stable, helpful — in short, excellent. Unlike with Google Analytics, Statcounter, Woopra and other comparable options, Piwik is entirely self-hosted and, as I understand it, does not share any data outside your organization. Here are a couple of excerpts from their privacy page <http://piwik.org/privacy/>: "When you use a web analytics tool such as Google Analytics (GA) or Yahoo Analytics, your web analytics data is tracked, stored and owned by the company providing you with the free analytics service. While they provide an excellent service for free, they also re-use the visitor log data tracked on your website to enrich existing profiles for a given user or IP address." "Piwik is the leading self-hosted, privacy compliant, decentralized, modern & Free (GPL License) web analytics platform, a building block of the free and open Internet. By using Piwik and configuring a few options as explained in this guide, you will ensure that all of your valuable information is private and owned by one person (you!) and that your website also, just as importantly, respects your visitors' privacy." Piwik even offers an option for you to offer your visitors a way to opt out of analytics by clicking on a link. It's easy to set up and easy to use. It creates lots of reports, it's customizable… in a word, excellent. -Peter

The Google Analytics Opt-out tool is available at <https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout>. We did a packet-sniffing check on it a few months ago, and it appeared to do what it promised -- so we installed it throughout out organization. There is a somewhat positive side-effect in that it tends to speed up browsing, sometimes quite considerably. Please note that this email does not constitute a recommendation to install any plug in; anything you do to your own computers is at your own risk. Paul

Data Import problem
by vipul 26 May '12

26 May '12

When we import the data then few info fields are not imported. If we import the same data then there are 2 records of same books in 1 bibliographic records. For Eg: if import the data of books then this fields are in properly imported (barcode , place, publisher, author , title) but when we try to import previous fields and feilds such as ( Page no, summary, year , public note) then there is 2 item types in 1 bibliographic entry. -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Data-Import-problem-tp5714113.html Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
