Can anyone help a new Koha user?
Hi Stewart If the only reason you are trying to install Koha on Windows is that you don't know how to install and use Linux then I think we need to find some way we can help you set up a Linux box and help you set up Koha on it. Once Koha is up and running on a Linux (preferably Debian) PC, then more people will be able to help you with issues and questions you may have later on. Now about helping you to set up Debian Linux first, then Koha: How about you spend you time and effort on learning how to install Debian on a PC. I assure you it will be worth the effort. You can find help online how to do that. And, I'm thinking, perhaps I can help you set up Debian on a PC on a Sunday using chat (#koha, Yahoo etc), or Skype. Have not thought much about it yet. Just an idea. But seems possible. We can talk about it. Once Debian is set-up, then installing Koha using Debia koha-common package is very easy. You decide. Be brave. Don't be afraid of Linux. arslan Hi everyone,
I'm an English teacher at a high school in Changzhou, Jiangsu, China. I'm not a librarian, and have never used catalog software before. I'm helping some other English teachers here put together an English library for the students, and I have been recommended Koha by a number of librarians.
I am not very technically proficient. I have never used Linux, so have opted for a Windows install. I used Raja Biswas' Youtube video<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou7WgoeSmOc>as a guide. The installers I used are:
- ActivePerl 5.8.8.820-MSWin32-x86-274739 - Apache 2.0.59-win32-x86-nossl - MySQL-4.0.26-win32 - Koha2.2.8-W32-R0
I found that using these installers that Koha would actually install (previous attempts with the latest versions of Perl, SQL etc failed).
So, it installed fine, but when I type in "intranet" or "opac" it gives me the dreaded 500 server error: "Premature end of script headers: mainpage.pl ".

Hi Everyone, Thanks for your help. I've installed Debian Squeeze as per Arslan's recommendation. Unfortunately as part of the installation process, the Windows installation was wiped. This doesn't worry me, except that now the CD ROM drive does not read in Linux, which means that I can't install a Live CD (my laptop is a Lenovo B470e). So I've been reading guides, including the one here<http://wikibrary.org/wiki/%D8%AA%D8%AB%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%AA_%D9%83%D9%88%D9%87%D8%A7_%D8%B9%D9%84%D9%89_%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%A7%D9%86>, but don't understand what I need to do. I can see that most of these lines are terminal commands. Of course when I input them, nothing happens. Arslan - if possible, could we meet up online and discuss the installation over Google Talk? If anyone has any other advice, I will welcome it. I think once I understand how to install programs and use the terminal, I should be able to follow instructions. Thanks for all your help, Stew On Fri, May 18, 2012 at 9:12 PM, Arslan Farooq <arslanone@gmail.com> wrote:
