Hi Andi It is dedicated hosting (VDS/VPS). > > Hmm. But you are doing a manual install on some distro other than Debian or Ubuntu I suppose? I may not be able to help you with the manual installation. I did it a long time ago... and forgotten most of stuff. But I can tell you that on Debian the installation procedure is very easy and you won't have to configure virtual hosts. All you'll have to do is tell apache to listen to 8080 port (assuming the default 80 will be your OPAC). Anyway, I'm still new to this. You may want to wait for someone experienced to reply. They are busy in KohaCon however I think. Good Luck. arslan

Re: [Koha] Koha - Software error while adding or editing item records

Hi, Apologies that I missed your reply in the digested list emails, hence the delay in my reply. Thank you for your response. My answer to your questions below: By referring "bib" I meant bibliographic record. The result is the same either I download and save a MARC record from library of congress or I create a record using cataloging module. I tried to check the LC settings in Administration, but failed to find one. Where can I check the LC settings? My apache and mysql servers are set to work with UTF-8 by default. My mysqlconfig file: [root@pcmk-1 conf]# cat /etc/my.cnf [mysqld] datadir=/var/lib/mysql #socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock user=mysql # Disabling symbolic-links is recommended to prevent assorted security risks symbolic-links=0 default-character-set = utf8 character-set-server = utf8 skip-character-set-client-handshake [mysqld_safe] log-error=/var/log/mysqld.log pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid [root@pcmk-1 conf]# Mysql status output: mysql> status -------------- mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.61, for redhat-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.1 Connection id: 24788 Current database: Current user: root@dbsvr SSL: Not in use Current pager: stdout Using outfile: '' Using delimiter: ; Server version: 5.1.61 Source distribution Protocol version: 10 Connection: 192.168.1.33 via TCP/IP Server characterset: utf8 Db characterset: utf8 Client characterset: utf8 Conn. characterset: utf8 TCP port: 3306 Uptime: 14 days 2 hours 34 min 24 sec Threads: 1 Questions: 9515954 Slow queries: 0 Opens: 722 Flush tables: 1 Open tables: 64 Queries per second avg: 7.807 -------------- mysql> My apacheconfig file section with UTF-8 settings: # # Specify a default charset for all content served; this enables # interpretation of all content as UTF-8 by default. I have followed the Koha installation manuals and I am not using Zebra server. More over, Koha gives the same error message while I try to check in or check out a book. The error message again: " Can't call method "subfield" on an undefined value at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Biblio.pm line 2992. " Thank you once again for your help. I can provide more details if you need. Please help. Subramanian Natarajan <gurujimani(a)yahoo.com> > Koha server is installed on Scienfic Linux 6.1 > > I ?have downloaded the bib records from LC using z39.50 gateway. I am getting the following error when I tried to add an item to the newly created bib record. What bib records? (ISBNs? Other search terms?) What are your LC settings in Administration? Are you sure Scienfic Linux 6.1 is configured correctly, particularly for UTF-8 on apache, perl and mysql? Perl Module issues
by Marty 03 Jun '12

03 Jun '12

After succesfully (and without any problems) having upgraded koha to 3.8.0 from 3.06.04 on my dual booted laptop I attempted to do the same on the main machine, both running Debian Squeeze. Doing the regular $ ./koha_perl_deps.pl -u -m it came up with the following list (and an error, but that does not seem to be an issue); [Sun Jun 3 12:17:35 2012] koha_perl_deps.pl: Use of uninitialized value $version in numeric lt (<) at /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1/Modern/Perl.pm line 25. [Sun Jun 3 12:17:35 2012] koha_perl_deps.pl: Use of uninitialized value $version in numeric lt (<) at /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1/Modern/Perl.pm line 25. Installed Required Module is Module Name Version Version Required -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DateTime 0 * 0.58 Yes DateTime::Event::ICal 0 * 0.08 Yes DateTime::Format::DateParse 0 * 0.04 Yes DateTime::Format::ICal 0 * 0.09 Yes DateTime::Set 0 * 0.28 Yes DateTime::TimeZone 0 * 1.26 Yes XML::RSS 0 * 1.31 Yes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total modules reported: 7 * Module is missing or requires an upgrade. So I start doing the cpan magic, and while initially this list was getting shorter (I was down to 3 or 4 missing modules) it suddenly returned to the 7 missing modules. Huh? I installed/updated all 7 modules, but it does not seem to matter; Trying to do a sudo cpan DateTime::Set for example, results in DateTime::Set is up to date (0.31), and so for all the modules; they are either the required version or higher. The only module that did not install easily was XML::RSS, which I had to install with -force $ ./koha_perl_deps.pl -u -m keeps insisting that they are missing or require an upgrade... Trying with the courage of the desperate to run $ perl Makefile.PL --prev-install-log /usr/share/koha/misc/koha-install-log results in the following: Can't locate Data/OptList.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /home/biblios/Downloads/koha-3.8.0 /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.1 /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.10 /usr/share/perl/5.10 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1/Class/Load.pm line 8. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1/DateTime/TimeZone.pm line 13. Compilation failed in require at /home/biblios/Downloads/koha-3.8.0/C4/Context.pm line 107. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /home/biblios/Downloads/koha-3.8.0/C4/Context.pm line 107. Compilation failed in require at /home/biblios/Downloads/koha-3.8.0/C4/Installer.pm line 24. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /home/biblios/Downloads/koha-3.8.0/C4/Installer.pm line 24. Compilation failed in require at Makefile.PL line 31. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at Makefile.PL line 31. Now I am at a loss what could be wrong or where to look. Any ideas are most welcome. Thanks, Marty

Hackfest Edinburgh 2012 - Very last minute proposal (librarian oriented)
by Francois Charbonnier 02 Jun '12

02 Jun '12

Hi all, Lately, I've been watching game of thrones and I realised that Koha's smart rules were like Theon Greyjoy. It's something you think you know but in the end, does something that wasn't expected at all. :^) Actually, it's not that dramatic but I think the hackfest is a good oportunity to build a focus group on the circulation rules. They are, if not the first, one of the feature that need to work really well. But I noticed recently, weird transfer or hold situations... At the same time, I discovered this new floating item feature. I don't know if it's related but I'm sure that even 2 or 3 people is not enough to QA any features that have impacts on circulation... So, my idea is to set up a focus group to : * work on koha circulation weaknesses * help people testing circulation feature with different settings At least, I think we should : * list the different circulation settings we know (indenpendant branchs or not, etc...) : * point out koha weaknesses for each of them * and make a list of tests to run each time there is a new circulation feature to be tested This way, it's going to be easier for everyone to get involved in testing these features and in the end, to be sure the circulations rules... rules! ;^) MJ, do you think it's possible to propose this during the hackfest? If not, who's interested? IRC and Skype can be our friends! ;^) François -- François Charbonnier http://www.biblibre.com/ Expert en Logiciels Libres pour l'info-doc Tél: 06 17 45 57 76

Issues with Serials
by Haik Zargaryan 01 Jun '12

01 Jun '12

Dear community, We are currently testing 3.06.04 to automate our library. Everything is still all right with one exception. Our catalog contains a large number of serial publications. The problem is that we are not sure how its MARC record should look like. With book everything is clear; you have a bibliographic record and holdings/items. Yet, journals and newspapers appear to be somehow tricky. We have decided to use koha's "Serials" module for this purpose. So, we create a bibliographic record, assign the pattern of publications and the system starts to generate items for each Issue. But the problem is that each issue has several items for itself, and since we use Items as Issues, there is no way to assign additional Items to Issues. This may sound a little bit confusing, but those who have used the tool will understand. Is there any solution to this problem? Or, do you have any experience of creating Serial/Newspaper records? Can you share some useful examples? Regards, Haik.
