I started here in this position about 4 months ago and the Admin prior setup a Koha server for our library system. The System is running on our win 2003 server, in a Virtual box VM with Ubuntu 10.04. The only instructions that were left to me regarding this system were to boot it, and it would take care of the rest. That was the case for the final two weeks of last school year, but i haven't been able to get it to come up this year, and I am unable to see what might be causing the issue. The VM has an IP address, IT pings our Default Gateway, so I know the networking is functioning, but all I seem to get is a VM with a Koha desktop background. I cannot find any reference to a server application nor do I see any database file. I am wholly unfamiliar with the nature of the application, so I am hoping for some enlightenment on how this operates, how I can verify that the database of out Library is still in the VM machine, and where I can try and activate the server software to give access to the students. If it is feasible, I would like to backup the database, and I could re-setup the VM and import the database into the new machine. My thanks in advance, and please tell me if this is the right place to be asking these questions, I am sorry for my ignorance. The truth is I've had some unix experience in the distant past; instead of copying anything, I'd link so that I could easily revert to the original state. As I've mentioned before, I use a ready-made VM, the reason that I don't ask the provider of that image directly is that his (and your) replies will be available to us all, for all current and future users of his appliance. /etc/environment is empty in my installation, I've updated /home/koha/.bashrc instead, as per Ian's instructions. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: koha : Depends: koha-common but it is not going to be installed Depends: dbconfig-common but it is not installable Depends: mysql-server but it is not installable E: Broken packages --- END EXAMPLE GIVEN --- Those dependencies are in the default repositories. You likely messed yours up or the server from which you would normally pull the updates is not reachable. To check which is true attempt the following command: $ sudo apt-get update If it has a whole bunch of error messages, then it is unreachable. If it is some other case, you will need to post the output for someone else to be able to help you. My gut feeling is you messed yours up. It could be a matter of the biblionumber not being stored properly. The other thing to do is to confirm that the non-indexed biblios are *actually* getting added to the zebraqueue by the 6566 script. It's kind of a long shot, but it could be an issue with the zebraqueue table getting corrupted. I've seen this happen when the zebraqueue table got too large, and disk space was low. DOM versus grs-1

Hello, I recently upgraded a site from Koha 3.6 to 3.8.5 (via 3.8.3). Shortly afterwards we noticed that there was quite a few biblios not appearing on the search results even though they exist in the database. After trying many, many things I decided to switch from DOM to grs-1 and rebuild the indexes. This has resolved the problem and the search results are now correct. Switching back to DOM brings back the problem. Does anyone know why this might be the case - broadly speaking. Should DOM and grs create the same index result set by using different filters or are these types of differences expected? Thanks Barry

New 3.6 and 3.8 packages - a note

I've uploaded new Debian packages for the latest 3.6 and 3.8 releases. Normally this isn't worth an email, but in this case it's necessary to be aware that Debian won't automatically upgrade it for you when you ask. New dependencies have been added, and so it is now necessary to do: sudo apt-get dist-upgrade to allow the new things to be included. Introduction and Support Request

Hello All, My name is David Hale, I am an IT Admin for a small charter high school in Utah, USA. I started here in this position about 4 months ago and the Admin prior setup a Koha server for our library system. The System is running on our win 2003 server, in a Virtual box VM with Ubuntu 10.04. The only instructions that were left to me regarding this system were to boot it, and it would take care of the rest. That was the case for the final two weeks of last school year, but i haven't been able to get it to come up this year, and I am unable to see what might be causing the issue. The VM has an IP address, IT pings our Default Gateway, so I know the networking is functioning, but all I seem to get is a VM with a Koha desktop background. I cannot find any reference to a server application nor do I see any database file. I am wholly unfamiliar with the nature of the application, so I am hoping for some enlightenment on how this operates, how I can verify that the database of out Library is still in the VM machine, and where I can try and activate the server software to give access to the students. If it is feasible, I would like to backup the database, and I could re-setup the VM and import the database into the new machine.
