Slow checkout times in 3.12 solved, sort of
by King, Fred 11 Jun '13

11 Jun '13

Our library went live with Koha 3.12 for staff (all five of us) earlier today. (Cue the popping champagne corks.) We're going to wait to roll out the OPAC in a couple of weeks, when the new residents officially start and the hospital's fiscal year begins. A couple of weeks ago, I posted a message that Koha was taking thirty seconds for each transaction. I managed to fix the problem, but I'm not sure how. Here are the details for anyone interested: The system I was working on was one I built from Koha Live DVD 3.10, then upgraded to 3.10.5, then 3.12 by using sudo apt-get upgrade. Something in the 3.12 upgrade caused the problem. I also tried building an Xubuntu system and installing Koha from packages. Same problem--each checkout was taking 30 seconds. Nothing else was affected: searching, checkins, etc., were all working perfectly. The same problem happened with the Koha Live DVD 3.12. By this time I was ready to go with a 3.10.5 system, but then Robin Sheat posted the new packages. (Thanks Robin!!) I tried upgrading a clone of my 3.10.5 system, and it worked perfectly. Upgrading the other 3.12 test systems I had did NOT work. I think it's because the upgrade only installed libmodule-bundled-files-perl on the 3.10.5 system. I'm not going to see if I can replicate my results because I'm tired of installing and want to start USING Koha. And I have four people to train. If anyone wants to investigate further, I'll provide any information I can remember. On the plus side, I've set up Koha so many times now that I can configure a basic system in a couple of hours. :-) Fred King Medical Librarian, MedStar Washington Hospital Center fred.king(a)medstar.net 202-877-6221 CONFIDENTIAL: The information contained in this communication, including its attachments, may contain confidential information and is intended only for the individual(s) or entity(ies) to whom it is addressed. New Koha packages published
by Robin Sheat 10 Jun '13

10 Jun '13

Hi all. I've just published new versions of both the 3.10 and 3.12 packages. Normally I wouldn't bother announcing this, nor doing it out of cycle like this, however there are two reasons sysadmins managing systems using these should be aware: 1. the packages should now work on Debian Wheezy (7.0) that was released exactly a month ago, with no messing around. They also will work on Debian Squeeze (6.0) and Ubuntu LTS (12.04) as before. 2. as a result of changes that adding this support required, when you next update Koha from the packages, it won't happen as part of normal system updates. Instead you'll have to force the upgrade by doing 'apt-get dist-upgrade'. This is because there will be a new dependency installed. error on import Marc Record from z39.50 servers listed in Koha
by Mesfin Teshome 10 Jun '13

10 Jun '13

Dear all, I am continuing to have some challenges with Koha 3.12. Our librarians are facing some errors when they try to import Marc Records from z39.50 servers in Koha and save. Importing goes ok but when they click save Koha throws the error below. This behavior is not consistent. It happens with some books and does not happen with others. I tried searching and importing the Marc records for this books on Koha 3.8 and import and save works fine without an error. The error Koha throws is: Software error: Can't call method "data" on an undefined value at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/AuthoritiesMarc.pm line 273. Some of the books are: * The Political writings of St. Augustine * Calvin's Calvinism What should I be looking at to troubleshoot this problem.

MARC Edit
by Ola Agha 09 Jun '13

09 Jun '13

Dear sirs, hello I have been dealing with Horizon 8.0 as a library management system for almost three years, however now I’m installing koha and I’ve been going through the system, experiencing its features, and exploring its characteristic. The only aspect I’ve found where Horizon is more flexible is the MARC edit. In koha you can’t add tags nor subfields unless you’ve add them in the framework first, The cataloger might face different cases when he find himself in need to add tags or subfields that do not exist in the framework he’s working by. We can’t edit the framework every time we need to add a tag or a subfield, especially which we might not use this tags with all the records we’re cataloging. Instruction/document on items (holdings) migration
by Iming Chan 07 Jun '13

07 Jun '13

Dear all, I have successfully imported our bibliographic records into Koha 3.12. However, I am having a lot of trouble importing our items (holdings). Unfortunately our old system doesn't export holdings/items with bib. records in MARC format. At this moment, I suspect my problem relates to data conversion from csv to MARC using MarcEdit. I am struggling to find any instruction/document on this matter. There are a few I found on Google search, but links are outdated. Does anyone has instruction/document on this task that I can have? Your assistance will be much appreciated. by Keener, Nancy 06 Jun '13

06 Jun '13

We are looking for organizations prepared to show their support for Koha by making a financial contribution towards the cost of the conference to insure KohaCon 13 is accessible, meaning there is no registration fee for delegates. Corporate sponsorships make that possible. KohaCon is an excellent opportunity to bring your organization to the attention of over 100 Koha developers and librarians who will attend KohaCon 13 and many more members of the Koha community who will access the live conference updates online. Needs are for food, program printing, transportation, equipment rental, and sponsoring an attendee. Item (Holdings) import problem -- Help!
by Iming Chan 06 Jun '13

06 Jun '13

Dear all, I seem to have trouble attaching items to correct bibliographic records. I have setup data matching using 001 Control Number and I believe this is working fine. After import holdings (in MARC format), I checked a known title and noticed there are several items attached when it should be one. While others have no item attached when they should! Strangely, when I look at the Holdings closely, the Owner Branch, Current Branch, Call Number, Price, etc. all seems to be split over several lines instead all on one line (as there is only one item not multiple ones). Do I need to remove each Leader and 008 when there are several items linked to a bibliographic record? If so, do we just need to leave a blank line between the copies? How do I strip such details in MarcEdit? Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
