by Daniel Grobani 15 Oct '13

15 Oct '13

Dear Koha kommunitarians, I'm harvesting news for this month's newsletter. Please send me by the 27th anything you think your fellow community members might like to know about. And all you lucky #kohacon13 attendees, here's your chance to share your experience with the community in more than 140-character chunks! "News" can be as short as a sentence or as long as a paper. I especially encourage you to send me a line or two for the gossip/society column about what you're currently working on. And if you know of a go-live not announced on the list, please be sure to let me know about it. Thanks, Daniel Grobani

Open source replacement for 3M self check station
by Daniel Berthereau 14 Oct '13

14 Oct '13

Hi, Since 2009, we have a 3M RFID self check in our library and it is well integrated with Koha (3.8). But... Some time ago, an automatic update of Windows made the self check station unavailable. We don't have any backup or install cd (3M refused to give it). The warrantee period is over and 3M asks a high charge to repair it (more than 2000 euros, that is bigger than a computer and the usual devices of a self check). As we 're going to upgrade our Koha installation to 3.12, we want to use an open source system to replace the software of the self check. Does anyone has some experience for an easy-to-install free software with that hardware ? Sincerely, -- Daniel Berthereau

Indexing issues continue
by Mark Tompsett 14 Oct '13

14 Oct '13

Greetings, I recently discovered part of our indexing problems were a result of /tmp being too small. So, I put TMPDIR=/var/tmp into /etc/environment and rebooted. That got the koha-rebuild-zebra now using /var/tmp instead of /tmp, and hence no drive space issues. However, I’m getting a warning, which I think is affecting indexing, because I can’t find anything in OPAC. I tried the following: $ sudo koha-rebuild-zebra -v -f library Zebra configuration information ================================ Zebra biblio directory = /var/lib/koha/library/biblios Zebra authorities directory = /var/lib/koha/library/authorities Koha directory = /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin BIBLIONUMBER in : 999$c BIBLIOITEMNUMBER in : 999$d ================================ skipping authorities ==================== exporting biblio ==================== 1.......................................................................... [SNIP NOTHING NOTEABLE] Records exported: 45853 ==================== REINDEXING zebra ==================== 02:17:37-15/10 zebraidx(12752) [warn] Couldn't open collection.abs [No such file or directory] ==================== CLEANING ==================== Zebra configuration information ================================ Zebra biblio directory = /var/lib/koha/library/biblios Zebra authorities directory = /var/lib/koha/library/authorities Koha directory = /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin BIBLIONUMBER in : 999$c BIBLIOITEMNUMBER in : 999$d ================================ ==================== exporting authority ==================== 1.......................................................................... Any ideas or suggestions? GPML, Mark Tompsett

by amutsikiwa＠uzlib.uz.ac.zw 14 Oct '13

Hi I have a new koha 3.12.05.000 installation. I have created loan rules with more than 20 day loan period. When I am checking out a book, I am told that " High demand item. Loan period shortened to 0 days (due ). Check out anyway?" and when I say "Yes" its defaulting to 0 days. Where could I have gone wrong? Where is the High demand Item set? What does this zebraidx error mean?
by Mark Tompsett 14 Oct '13

14 Oct '13

Greetings, Thank you to eythian and ebegin on the #koha channel. After finding the cause of our indexing problem (a 16MB /tmp partition, which we have no power to change), and using the -d parameter on the koha-rebuild-zebra script to point to a different temporary directory, I was able to get a full reindex to run to completion. I did get a strange error once while doing so, and I am wondering if this was solely because of permission problems I had on the temporary directory that I specified, or if there is something else. Here is the error: zebraidx: it_key.c:98: key_compare: Assertion `l <= 5 && l > 0' failed. Any ideas? GPML, Mark Tompsett

Reno Weather Forecast
by BWS Johnson 12 Oct '13

12 Oct '13

Salve! I know that some of you will soon be boarding Iron Eagles only to emerge sometime on Wednesday, so I figured I should at least give you a hint about what to wear. :) From weather.com it looks like things will be in the just below room temperature teens. It's meant to be mostly sunny. (What? Fahrenheit? Civilised people use centigrade. Oh fine, it's meant to be in the mid to high sixties.) This is slightly warmer than last year according to the Farmer's Almanac. TSA agents are in the unenviable situation of having to work while not receiving pay. This is also the case with the Air Traffic Controllers. So expect delays! Cheers, Brooke
