Manually freezing fines
by Mr. Ian McNaught 13 Jun '17

13 Jun '17

Hi At our university, at a certain point in the semester we transfer any outstanding fines from Koha onto the students account on the student information system so it blocks their re-registration or collection of results until paid. At this moment, the books are not returned, so fines continue to increment on Koha leaving us with two systems with out of sync fine amounts. Is there a way to manually freeze fines without the book being returned? I know there's the fine cap value, but that's a fixed amount - we want to freeze the fine at whatever value it's at on the day we transfer the fines. Main page of Koha Community and Koha 17.05
by Michael Kuhn 13 Jun '17

13 Jun '17

Hi 1. As I've just seen on the main page of the Koha Community ( https://koha-community.org/ ) there is a link saying "Introducing Koha 17.05" - but clicking on it will lead to nowhere since the URL looks like: https://koha-community.org/koha-17-05-released/%22 The " character (%22) at the end of this URL should be removed. Maybe the people maintaining the Koha Community page can correct the URL so it will actually lead to the release notes of Koha 17.05 as intended. 2. Just below this link "Introducing Koha 17.05" there is a button saying "Try it now" - it leads to some demo pages, but none of them works with Koha 17.05 but with everything between Koha 3.22 and Koha 16.11. So this is somewhat misleading. Maybe it would be a good idea to give the actual Koha version that these demos use (as shown in the older list https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_Demo_Installations ). 3. Which leads to a question: Usually the (always recommended) Debian packages followed a few day after the initial release of the new Koha version. But this time Koha 17.05 was released two weeks ago and as far as I can see there are still no Debian packages. Did I miss something or does anyone know what happened to the Debian package? When will it be released? Best wishes: Michael -- Geschäftsführer · Diplombibliothekar BBS, Informatiker eidg. Koha 16.11.08 Patrons Page
by TSO_Lydell 12 Jun '17

12 Jun '17

Hi, we just migrated Koha from 16.05.05 to 16.11.08 and there seems to be an issue on the patrons page. As soon as it loads, a box pops up that says "Processing...". There is also another box that shows "Added patrons to .". These go away after you do a search. Has anyone else run into this? If you did, how did you fix the issue? Alternatively, is there a way to update Koha? I am guessing updating it would also take care of the issue but I am not sure how. We are running a GUI-less Debian server so if someone would have the correct terminal commands, that would be awesome. System Info: OS = Debian 8 Koha Version = 16.11.08 Perl Version = 5.020002 MySQL Version = Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.5.55 Apache Version = 2.4.10 Zebra Version = 2.0.59 Please let me know if you need anything from me. I can get screenshots if necessary. Hi I have configured my Koha instance to send emails as per http://kohageek.blogspot.com/2012/09/configure-gmail-with-postfix-to-send.ht ml. However, when I check my root emails, there are some errors that shows why the system cannot send emails. Below are the error messages: Can't locate Authen/CAS/Client/Response/Failure.pm: ./Authen/CAS/Client/Response/Failure.pm: Permission denied at /usr/share/perl/5.22/base.pm line 97. n ...propagated at /usr/share/perl/5.22/base.pm line 106. EDI invoice
by nikesh 11 Jun '17

11 Jun '17

*Nikesh Narayanan *I Systems & e-Librarian I Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research <http://www.kustar.ac.ae/> PO Box 127788, Abu Dhabi, UAE Mobile : +971507097346 Hi, I am having a problem regarding EDI invoice. I have done the order through EDIFACT and KOHA successfully picked the invoices from FTP space of the publisher. Actually it is supposed to read the invoice and update items found in the invoice as "received" and update funds without any need for manual intervention. But that option is not working for me. Invoice search doesn't show any results of these invoices received through EDI. How can I view theses invoices though KOHA ? Is there any additional setting , I need to do for this process. These are our procedures. 1. OASIS (COUTTS) is our vendor. We can search for books in their platform and can download the order MARC from their site. 2. Upload the ORDER MARC to KOHA and generate the order using that MARC file. 3. The order would reach OASIS FTP automatically through EDI option. 4. Once they process the order, they would provide full MARC and Inovice in their FTP space. 5. KOHA overlays the order MARC with full MARC using OASIS number ( we need to define OASIS number in the record matching rule. 6. KOHA automatically pick the invoice from FTP site and update the order record as received and upadate the fund automatically Our issue is that KOHA picks the invoice from COUTTS FTP but does not automatically update the order record status to "received" status and update the fund. We need to do it manually. Regards .

KohaCon2017 banner
by schnydszch 11 Jun '17

11 Jun '17

Just almost a week to go before 2017 Koha International Conference and our banner for this Conference is now up at http://kohacon2017philippines.com/about-us/. A simple narrative on the banner you can see in the link and below: The KohaCon2017 banner depicts Bayanihan, a common tradition in Philippine towns where community members volunteer to help a family move to a new place by volunteering to transport the house (bahay-kubo) to a specific location. The process involves literally carrying the house to its new location. This is done by putting bamboo poles forming a strong frame to lift the stilts from the ground and carrying the whole house with the men positioned at the ends of each pole. Bayanihan spirit is also best embodied in Free and Open Software more specifically Koha ILS. Within the Koha ILS community, every individual (either as developer, documentation manager or just plain user that reports bug) works toward a goal of making Koha ILS the best library automation package. The zeroes and ones (binary) that can be send in the foreground is a repetition of the word “Koha” represented in binary digits, which is the smallest unit of data on a computer. The binary digits are in colors blue and red, which represent the blue and red horizontal stripes in the Philippine flag. The Koha ILS logo and below it, Koha written in ancient Filipino script baybayin, has a motif of yellow which depicts the third color in the Philippine flag. We hope you liked the banner as well as the narrative behind it. We hope to see you in Makati City, Philippines during KohaCon2017.
