Both Koha and the LibraryLookup projects would benefit. The LibraryLookup project can add support for yours if it is possible to form a URL that queries your system by ISBN (see the sample links above). That will be true for many, but not all, systems. Fresh install and koha.deb...

I'm doing the work importing the data i was talk some days ago, and the first pass was to do a fresh koha installation. But i'm also working on a koha debian package, so i've joined the two jobs. For now i'm tring to do a simple, very simple, koha package, so there's no installation nor a debconf script. Only files are put on correct places, i've write an example configuration file and i've to write a README.Debian to make some installation hints. I've completely skipped the Z39.50 part. ;) For now i've some problem. I've put perl C4 modules on /usr/lib/perl5, and koha and opac things on /usr/share/koha/ and /opac/. I've had to put on koha.conf the lines: opacdir=/usr/share/opac intranetdir=/usr/share/koha to make all the thinkg work. There are so many undocumented configuration options?! ;) I've also moved the config file from /etc to /etc/koha, editing accordingly the C4 modules. The package install flawlessy, and seems work well. I've only a doubt about the auth schema. Apart that koha require me login twice (?!), i've see that i can create account for every user via card number, but i can also create users, via password link. Ok, but now... modify user flags link refer to card number or users?! These are the same thing?! ;) I'm a bit confused... ;) PS: you speak about AuthenDBI to make authentication, but i've not installed some strange perl module or configured exotically apache, and koha require me user and pass. AuthenDBI is ``transparent'', so this is a feature?! ;) -- dott. Some doubts

Hello all I'm part of a workgroup that are evaluating (and starting Spanish translation) for Argentinian Universities of Koha 1.92 and have some problems, perhaps somebody could clarify me what I´m doing wrong, or if correspond that this observations are bugs that are already reported. 1. Aquisitions Module. I have set into System Preferences Aquisitions to normal and don't see any changes, I mean that in older versions of Koha from this place I could access to biblio or biblio items under Catalogue Maintainance. I suppose this is replaced by MARC option isn't it? In a lot of places of the software are references that indicates to go to Acquisition... 2. I have set MARC OFF and don't see any changes. From MARC/Biblio I could access to MARC records only, I could access to biblio record from the OPAC but could not add for example an item. From MARC option I could access to MARC (that don't works) and items but could not add an item (see below). 3. MARC Module. If I try to edit a record only could access to groups 0XX, 1XX y 2XX the rest are blank and the data is not filled in fields and no Javascript/Perl or Apache error is reported... I'm using MARC::Record 0.93. If I try to add Items from this screen the system looks like adding items but are not related to the biblio record. I could see that MARC structure is complete, I mean that are all the fields for MARC21 (2XX,3XX,4XX, etc) from System Preferences. 4. Aquisitions. I could not add a supplier, simply adding it does nothing. I have to touch something like deleting an input field in orders.tmpl for accessing. Only could access biblio from here. Idem for an order. 5. Somebody could explain me the use of ethnicity (sorry I'm trying to translate to spanish and don't understand the meaning and use) and the utility of the option Virtual Shelves? 6. I've seen that anybody could place a request, that is anybody that isn't identified for example. In the other hand I've seen that when I try to make an issue of a book that has request, Koha makes an advice indicating that this book has requests, and prompts if I wish to delete the request. But the process enters in a loop, I mean after all the answers continues with the first question of the set... Well, that's all. I'm trying to test if all this things are happening in this Koha version or could have something in my deploy that is not working OK. Yours truly is used to looking at volunteer organisation/small library/school library settings where that kind of budget just doesn't exist. ISBN will work for every record that has one. Remember because of coding choices (mostly in the past, so chiefly an issue with older materials) not all records have an ISBN and there is always the possibility of coding error, though OCLC is up on corrections. If their American office is like the "branch plant" here in Winnipeg (where I did a library tech field placement) they'll offer you a nice degree of editing of the records as well and go through setting up exactly what you want/can afford. Ingrid's departure

It's always sad to see someone leave a community like the one I believe that we've been building here. I hope that Ingrid and the Cherry Hill Company find success on their new road. # From a more inward looking stance, I don't believe that losing Ingrid will be a disastrous blow to Koha. Development and bug fixing are both moving forward, and the community seems to be quite healthy. There are also good signs in the larger oss4lib community around us, members of different development groups are talking together and there seems to be some interest in cooperating where it makes sense. Where do we go from here? Well, it's important to find a new QA/Testing manager. It's also important for us to get a rock-solid 2.0.0 release out the door. Dear all, I guess I am naive. I thought we could go to OCLC and give them the ISBN and then buy their records for that item, with LC number mandatory. Why would that not work? Nichts! I'll try some other sources tomorrow, but I kinda think Richard is right. If anybody out there in Koha-land is a member of the AUTOCAT listserv, this would make an excellent question for the community. Please be aware that ISBN does not guarantee an LC number has been assigned. If a book has an LCCN then its catalogue record has been completed (not all are always retrievable online, for some strange reason). ISBN numbers are allocated by national agencies but not by the CPSO or the Cataloguing divisions of LC. Richard is right in saying there would be cases of multiple mapping. Even looking at LC authority records, you'll see subject auth records with more than one number depending on what discipline is treating the topic under discussion. It would be a large task to convert between the schema, but depending on the size and nature of your collection there might be a way of bridging. Sears Subject Headings give DDC numbers and there are schema/works converting DDC<-->LC. It would depend on the subject terms used and how close they might be to the generalist terms in Sears.
