Yours truly is used to looking at volunteer organisation/small library/school library settings where that kind of budget just doesn't exist. ISBN will work for every record that has one. Remember because of coding choices (mostly in the past, so chiefly an issue with older materials) not all records have an ISBN and there is always the possibility of coding error, though OCLC is up on corrections. If their American office is like the "branch plant" here in Winnipeg (where I did a library tech field placement) they'll offer you a nice degree of editing of the records as well and go through setting up exactly what you want/can afford. Ingrid's departure

It's always sad to see someone leave a community like the one I believe that we've been building here. I hope that Ingrid and the Cherry Hill Company find success on their new road. # From a more inward looking stance, I don't believe that losing Ingrid will be a disastrous blow to Koha. Development and bug fixing are both moving forward, and the community seems to be quite healthy. There are also good signs in the larger oss4lib community around us, members of different development groups are talking together and there seems to be some interest in cooperating where it makes sense. Where do we go from here? Well, it's important to find a new QA/Testing manager. It's also important for us to get a rock-solid 2.0.0 release out the door. Dear all, I guess I am naive. I thought we could go to OCLC and give them the ISBN and then buy their records for that item, with LC number mandatory. Why would that not work? Sears Subject Headings give DDC numbers and there are schema/works converting DDC<-->LC. It would depend on the subject terms used and how close they might be to the generalist terms in Sears. Source and pricing of barcode scanners in .nz

Hi all My partner teaches at a small school in Hamilton, New Zealand, and we (me being the resident geek) are looking at Koha on Debian Linux for their library. We need to do a full costing for this exercise, and the only thing I don't have a ready source for is the barcode scanner part. Does anyone on the list have information on sources and pricing of barcode scanners in New Zealand? I've looked at *my* usual shopping haunts, but I guess barcode scanners aren't the sort of toy geeks usually like to play with ;) Many thanks Regards Richard

I think the word you are translating as "ethnicity" may be for "language". The idea of Virtual Shelves options, with Koha and other pricey library systems, is to give a patron the sense of what he or she would see on the same shelf (same general area) of the collection as the specific title sought. Fill a koha installation with very partial data...

I've collected some data from the books stored in a library of my organization. This data was managed with a simple db (microsoft works), and contain rather minimal data, like: 1) title 2) author 3) publisher 3) the series title (first volume, second volume, ...) 4) a field that can be considered like an item type 5) the ``location'', that i think i can consider like a branches With this simple list of books i can fill the koha database and start using it quickly?!
