hi Mohamed, last weekend i installed Mandrake 9.0 and Koha 1.9.2, so a different version, but i think the same things will apply. the installer script for 1.9.2 set up virtual hosting entries in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. in the default Mandrake apache configuration, the cgi scripts won't execute since the Koha installer needs to put the cgi-scripts in it's own directory structure. i added the directory section in the opac virtual host section after the line ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/koha/ /usr/local/koha/opac/cgi-bin/ <Directory /usr/local/koha/opac/cgi-bin> AllowOverride None Options ExecCGI Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> in the intranet virtual host section after the line ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/koha/ "/usr/local/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/" <Directory /usr/local/koha/intranet/cgi-bin> AllowOverride None Options ExecCGI Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> then you need to apache. Open Source or Free Software?

Hi All: Koha is often referred to as an "open source" project (definition at http://www.opensource.org/osd.html. Do we also characterize it as "free software" (definition at http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html)? I know that in practice, nearly all software meeting one definition also meets the other, I was just wondering what everyone thinks about the distinction. To my mind, there are advantages to both terms. "Open source" is more widely known (at least around here) and expresses the "openness" of the code. "Free software" (as in free speech) comes closer to the library concept of free access to information; it also (conveniently) covers the monetary aspect of things (after all, the software is available at no cost). Windows install packages for Koha Stable Release V1.2.3 and Koha Test Release V1.9.2 are now available. There is a set of pages on the Koha wiki supporting installing Koha on Windows. Club de la Doua will be hosting a workshop about "Open Source Software in Libraries" at enssib (the French National School for librarians - www.enssib.fr) in Lyon, France on the 18th of April. Three speakers will come to share their vision about free softwares in this field: 9:00AM Nicolas Morin, from Nancy University Libraries, will talk about the actual uses and further perspectives of using free softwares in the library from a library manager's point of view. 9:45AM Paul Poulain, Koha 2.0 release manager, will describe the working pattern of a particular open source project, and make a demo of the open source ILS Koha 11:15 Olivier Walbecq, from Archimed company, will talk about open source at Archimed's et, in particular, the "Oscar community" and OpenURL servers. Using Library of Congress Call number

I would like to use the Library of Congress call numbers, as all the books in my library are already labeled with this. How can I change the preferences to use this instead of the Dewey system when I import MARC records. Thanks, Stephen Durham
