Hi, A new version of Koha, the 1st Free software ILS has just been released, and is avaible here : https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=16466 Enjoy RELEASE NOTES ============= This version of Koha is still in the "unstable" directory, because some bugs are still reported. But it's fully useable and used in (at least) 3 libraries in "real world" : * Nelsonville Public Library, Ohio, USA * Esiee, high school, France * Dombes Abbey, France The next version should/might be the 2.0.0RC1. The only missing features are : * a migration tool for libraries already using Koha1.2.x * an automated upgrading tool for future version. It's possible to upgrade manually. UPGRADING : --------- People using a previous 2.0.0preX version can upgrade code and use the same DB, there's no DB change. To upgrade mannually : - mv /etc/koha.conf /etc/koha.conf_previous - install in a new directory /var/www/html/koha_200pre3 for example. - delete the 2.0.0pre3 DB - modify /etc/koha.conf to point to 2.0.0pre3 DB - modify httpd.conf to have Koha root directory pointing to 200pre3 install instead of 200pre2 - restart Apache. Note : you can use the 2.0.0pre2 login/password. If you do, mySQL may complaint about "already existing DB user". It's not a problem. Note : you can also use "CVS symlink installation" of Koha if you prefer. This avoid demo user breaking the demo config. * adding javascript function to focus on 1st field for issues / returns. Very happy though with KOHA and will be upgrading as soon as possible. Bernadette, thanks so much for the reply. Yours was the only reply. I am putting the journal information in the Notes section, but confusing for people who don't/won't know to look there. If numbers and letters could be added to both class and subclass, that would solve the problems a lot. Does anyone know when KOHA 2. is out. I believe that's the way Horowhenua Library Trust (http://www.library.org.nz) does it. In the case of Nelsonville Public Library, the actual call number used by the library was stored in a holdings tag, but in a 952 tag, not the 852 tag. Many ILS programs use the option of 9xx tags to store holdings information, because these tags are more flexible than the closely-regulated 852 tags. So at NPL (http://www.athenscounty.lib.oh.us) the entire call number was mapped to the 'classification' field as the data was migrated from the old system to Koha. I'm not sure how the call numbers at Unido (http://www.unido.org) are stored -- they may have used yet another method. One word of warning -- if you decide to map the call number from an existing holdings tag, you will need to split the existing tag into two tags, so you can map one to the items table and the other to fields in the biblioitems table. This isn't too hard to do with MARC::Record. By the way, the little ' in the Dewey number from LC (005.7'2) is not part of the number. If you use that as your call number it may also go in field 852, which contains local copy information. 005.7'2 --dc21 is the Dewey Classification number. The 1st part goes in field 082 subfield a. dc21 specifies which edition is being used and goes in subfield 2. If you use Dewey for your call numbers it would also go in field 852. The - is dropped from the LC Control number when it is entered in field 010.
