Ok, I've got koha 2.2.0 installed via the perl script on freebsd 4.11-stable, and I am running apache 1.3.x, perl 5.8.6 and have the perl modules installed nice and comfy. I have koha installed on my box to check it out. I've never used apache much and I dont_know where to put the reference to /etc/koha-httpd.conf in the httpd.conf file. anyone help me out here???? --Karl __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? This is not strictly a koha question but... By some week a people will arrive in my organization, with the task to pick up all the books in internal library and build a database. I can install koha for this, but the time are tight and i'm thinking if there's some simpler tools that can be used to build a marc record set (possibly scanning some Z35.80 servers, and in UNIMARC format) that then i can import in koha. koha2marc.pl and sampledata1.2

A slew of questions from a koha (and perl) neophyte: (1) What is the status / function of koha2marc.pl? (with respect to following) After installing koha 2.2, I installed sampledata1.2 with no errors ( after modifying records from some tables -- biblio and biblioitems were unchanged). But now I need populate marc_biblio etc to get any search results. (2) --this seems true whether marc support is 0 or 1. Is this the expected behaviour? So I run koha2marc.pl , which fails: DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Column 'frameworkcode' cannot be null at /usr/local/koha/intranet/modules/C4/Biblio.pm line 343. DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Column 'bibid' cannot be null at /usr/local/koha/intranet/modules/C4/Biblio.pm line 459. marc_subfield_structure.frameworkcode is empty string, not null, for all records. (default marc21 structure def'n accepted at install). MARCkoha2marcBiblio($dbh,$biblionumber,$biblioitemnumber) calls MARCkoha2OneField, which expects $frameworkcode as an argument, but does not supply it. (causing the framework null error??) You might want to check out MARCEdit off the MARC Tools page at LC at URL <http://www.loc.gov/marc/marctools.html#recordtools> It has a delimited text editor which might save you the step of writing the PERL script. Or if you don't have access to a PC to use MARCEdit on, give a shout back and I can try converting the records for you. The same thing is true for valid MARC records in any ILS, since one can have many copies of a book etc. on the shelves that are all attached to one MARC record and yet would have (one hopes) unique barcodes and sometimes other identification numbers (often acquisition numbers, e.g.). It's only complex in deciding where to map the barcode info (multiple 852s perhaps, unless there is someway of appending the barcode info to the $p; I guess that would depend on how the barcode info is stored in your DBTextworks). Sunday, February 13, 2005 22:39 CST Hi, Karl, Checking Cibbarelli's Directory of Library Automation Software, Systems, and Services (2001-2002 ed.) quickly, it seems that Librarian's Helper does not offer import or export in MARC format. As many non-MARC fans of Koha would point out quickly, however, Koha works quite fine without use of MARC records. There is, indeed, a non-MARC setting, as Koha was originally made for a library trust in New Zealand that continues to use it happily and successfully without MARC-on. I am not sure about migrating your database. I am dismayed by what I am reading in Cibbarelli's though. The supplier's comments note only that it is designed to produce catalogue cards and various labels, but NOT a true database. Are you sure you actually have a database to import into Koha? If it is at all reassuring, though, I would assume that, at the very worst, if there is a database, you should be able to extract the data (does Librarian's Helper offer ANY export options? from what I am reading in Cibbarelli's it sounds like there are none built in) from wherever it 'hides' in the program, although you may have to reformat (standardise) it substantially before Koha can handle it. If you can find any export option, I would be curious to learn more about it. Also, please feel free to give me a shout off listserv re: some cataloguing advice: I know some MLIS folks who are working/have worked on church collections and who are always willing to pass on what they've learned. Hi Phill, I have moved catalog data from DB Textworks to Koha onto an online shared catalog, which you can see at http://www.infocat.org.au To move the data, I needed to transform it into USMarc format. For that transformation, I used 'Marc Transformer' a package I purchased from local DB Textworks suppliers in Melbourne. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about this. Librarians Helper

Greetings. First time here. Looking at using Koha for a church library of approx 3,000 items. The current system is using Librarians Helper 1.0 on a compaq 286. Going to die any day I am sure so that is why we are looking at alternatives. My problem is, I dont know if koha will import this data. I dont know if it is MARC format. I am trying to install the PERL modules onto my Mac OS X Server (Panther) and having troubles. Has anyone installed it on a Mac server? error on installing koha
