Some doubts about issuing rules

In our library we have a situation that we don't fid how to represent it with the current schema of issuing rules, maybe you can give us an idea. For every biblio we purchase we give a special treatment for the first item of that kind we purchase. That items are labeled different and their a called "room only items" (ejemplares de sala, in spanish). This books are only borrowed in house during week days; but on weekends they're borrowed till the next weekday (tipically monday). The remaining items of that biblio fit on the standard issuing rules. We want to enforce this rule but we don't find a clear way of doing this, without modifing some CGI and maybe the database estructure. Any comments will be appreciatted Andres

MySQL/possible Perl trickery? Hints required...

'afternoon all I have a niggling problem with Koha installation. The environment: MacOS 10.3.7, MySQL 4.0.22-max, perl 5.8.1-RC3. Installer is run as root, with root MySQL access. Net::Z3950 and Yaz are not present, Date::Manip is installed by force, DBD::MySQL is present, after correcting a minor makefile issue by hand. All other modules installed fine. The problem: When the installer attempts to create the MySQL database, it creates the user, but then does not give the user enough access to the Koha database: Creating the MySQL database for Koha... 0/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin: CREATE DATABASE failed; error: 'Access denied for user: 'testkoha@localhost' to database 'koha'' ..and dies, unable to create the Koha database. Salvete! There's an interesting thread on the American Government Documents listserv right now on OPAC displays, and I figured it might cause interesting discussion here. I have forwarded one of the messages below. I am aware that any change to the OPAC would probably involve an awful lot of work, and I try very hard not to beg and plead for anything I'm not paying for, so please don't take this as an immediate request for implementation, but rather something to gnaw on as we all try and figure out what configuration suits our patrons. But I'm intrigued by the interplay between the (very important) issue of OPAC display that Barbie focused in on and on the draft document's question about FRBR-related consequences of multiple records. It seems to me that describing each item or instance (I don't remember the exact FRBR nomenclature) makes sense, provided that those records can be grouped into a work-level record for display so that (in my understanding) we would get one hit for Statistical Abstract of the United States with four or five instance records hanging off of it, one each for web, cd, micro, print and (locally for us) one for a commercial reprint and several for commercial online versions. My patrons would love to find ONE record that describes "The Starr Report" or "9/11 Commission Report" and includes a list of all the instances of that work, regardless of format (or publisher). Similarly, if I had one "work" record to display for Code of Federal Regulations that somehow had my print, fiche and electronic holdings attached to it, swell. I don't know what FRBR-type displays will require -- it seems like separate records per format -- but workflow issues aside, eventually getting all the instances of a work grouped into one display (regardless of how man records underlie the display) would be my ideal OPAC. As far as I know, our ILS (III) won't do this, at least not yet. If Aleph handles FRBR-ized display, cool. (I do agree with Barbie that GPO cataloger time is valuable, so lower-level records for other formats makes sense to me, as long as one format gets the full treatment.) I'd love to spend some time at Spring FDLP discussing this. Scott

Greetings I have installed Koha and loaded the sample data. When I search I get no results. Is there anything else I need to do to make Koha work? Also - do the npl templates actually work? Are there any templates that do work? Don

I have had a version of Koha running on my home Suse system working for some time. I do recall, however, that I did have difficulties in installing it, mainly in relation to the z3950 stuff and Mysql. I have been trying over the last few days to instal a system on a remote virtual machine (from http://bytemark.co.uk ). This gives me full root access to a Debian instalation. When I ran ./installer.pl for the first time I got the usual errors about Yaz and the Net::z3950 modules and various perl modules. I eventually got Yaz unstalled with the help of the nice people at indexdata: they told me that the latest Debian versions already include yaz but my version seemed not to. With a bit of luck all distros will include it soon. The Net and other Perl modules eventually installed from CPAN. I also made alterations to httpd.conf (Apache 1.3) by uncommenting mod_env and mod_include. Before starting I had ensured that MySql was working: mysql -p -u root produces a request for my pw and when I enter it I get the mysql prompt. However the installer does not like mysql. I get the following error messages: (typed rather than copied since I am writing from a differnt machine.) Creating the Mysql database ... ERROR 1062 at line 1: Duplicate entry 'localhost-kohaadmin' for key 1 256 ERROR 1062 at line 1: Duplicate entry '%-Koha-kohaadmin' for key 1 /usr/bin/mysqladmin: command to server at 'localhost' failed error 'access denied for user: kohaadmin@localhost' (using password 'YES')' ERROR CREATING Database Could not connect to Mysql server [Then] DBI connect ('koha:localhost','kohaadmin',...) failed: Access denied for user 'Kohaadmin@localhost (Using PW: YES) at /usr/local ...C4/Context.pm line 408 Cannot call method 'prepare' on undefined value at scripts/updater/updatedatabase line 876 etc Mysql on this machine *does* seem to be pernickety about how one logs on. ie mysql -p -u root produces a prompt for the password while mysql -u root -p="mypw" (or --password="mypw") claims that root@localhost cannot access the db. Any suggestions? A small suggestion: would it be possible to make text entered into the installer editable? It is annoying to make a typo and not to be able to correct it. Errors in log, please help

Hi all after checking the log I found the following: [error] ERROR: Date::Manip unable to determine TimeZone., referer: http://my.site:8080/cgi-bin/koha/members/memberentry.pl?actionType=Add [error] [client 127.0.0.1] at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/Date/Manip.pm line 3495, referer: http://my.site:8080/cgi-bin/koha/members/memberentry.pl?actionType=Add All this while adding a new member, may be the first error is not that important, but don't know really. I'm working in the same machine as instalation as u can notice, also found that the httpuser was 'apache' and not the root or the koha user, does this really matter?

koha does not recognise my dbd::mysql module.

hello list, i have a problem in installing koha. when i run the installer.pl script it says mysql::dbd module is not installed and gave the following error. export LC_ALL=C perl -MCPAN -e 'install "DBD::mysql"' But i myself downloaded this module and instlled it on my RH8 - p4 system.when i issue the above set command i says dbd::mysql is uptodate. displays following .. >>Database was generated on Mon, 24 Jan 2005 05:56:51 GMT >>DBD::mysql is up to date. can any one suggest a way to getaround. can i skip cheking for perl modules. will that help. many thanks in advance .. with love gowtham
