Continuting z3950 madness

Hi all, I am still trying to get the biblio search working with this z39.50 daemon. I click on Catalogue, then 'Add biblio', then enter some data in the title and isbn fields, and click the Go button. The search fails to return any information and I click the 'Add New Biblio' button. From that screen I click on the 'z3950 search' and get the 'Z3950 Search Results' window up with the 'Still ?? requests to go' information bar. I also checked the version both are same (i installed koha2.2.5 and the about of demo also saying same). So this make me little confused, since i am new to the koha and also i am form the open source development and not have library management experience as such. So please anybody having any inforamtion regarding this kindly help. Also i searched for the properly documented (rather easy step-by-step) manuals for how to use and administer koha, but I am sorry i could not get that useful for me, so please also help in this regard. kohadocs.org problem

I've been having a problem getting to www.kohadocs.org for the past few days. Looks like there's a name resolution problem. Maybe a missing A record as I can ping the authoratative DNS servers. Hi, I'm looking at adding Koha to the DarwinPorts package management system. This would mean configuring, building and installing Koha with no user interaction. Is this possible? If so, can anyone give me any advice on how to go about it? Cheers, Josh

Hi Andres I was checking in my mail, and we sended to Joshua exactly a year ago (06.20.05), the entire source code and database schema. I really don't know which was the problem with the install or something else. Before the finish of the Physics Library Project, the source code was downloaded from many countries, many times as you can see in: http://biblio.fisica.unlp.edu.ar/cgi-bin/koha/opac-downloads.pl Actually this version is not downloadeable from this site. Hello everybody again As I was mentioned in the list, and think there is an error or some kind of mis-understanding, I feel in the obligation to answer in both languages trying to clarify some things. Roxana: Actually I'm working as an external consultant for one of La Plata University schools, but in my knowledge La Plata University as an institution doesn't commercialize Koha, trough me or through anybody. My actuall freelance work is related to a branch of Koha, that we named Koha-BDF and it's logo says "Based in Koha" as you can see in the instances that we have: http://biblio.fisica.unlp.edu.ar http://biblio.exactas.unlp.edu.ar (two in La Plata) http://bibliotecas.umsa.bo (Bolivia) The main differences are related to the cataloging interface, that we don't use Koha's native and we use UNESCO-IsisMarc, performing some modifications and enhacements. In the other hand, we don't use Authorities Module, or Serial Module. We changed circulation procedures adapting to some common latinoamerican libraries problems, MARC-Koha DB mapping also was changed, trying to adapt the majority of MARC21 fields. and some other things. Personally I'm working in a Perl Tk interface for replacing one DB/Text Inmagic instance. As you could see in my public presentations (unfortunately in spanish), for instance in http://www.amicus.udesa.edu.ar/3bibliotecadigital/ponencias/rocca.html I allways tell that we are not the official release of Koha, and hope in some moment to have enough funding for joining our changes or contributing for the official release. Reading your mail, anybody could suppose that I commercialize (or La Plata University!) Koha OSS, making some kind of lie, or hidding the oficial release of Koha. It's true that I receive money for my services, but are not related to the software (inclusive Koha BDF itself): we created special material and made 4 instances of Perl+Koha training courses for programmers, I've made conversion more of 35 databases to MARC21 and inserting into Koha, and processed Excel worksheets and obtained through Z3950 free services, more than 3000 MARC21 records for different libraries based in ISBN. In the meantime, 5 computer science students has learned Perl, Koha (BDF) and MARC21, and they helped me to accomplish this services to different libraries, actually for instance in Bolivia there are 3 programmers adapting our solution to specifical problems related to a big university. En la actualidad estoy realizando una interfaz basada en Perl Tk en vias de reemplazar un sistema comercial basado en DBText/Inmagic. Leyendo tu correo, cualquiera puede suponer que yo (o la Universidad de la Plata!) comercializamos el software abierto Koha, realizando alguna clase de engaño u ocultando que la versión libre se halla disponible. Esto NO es así. Es cierto que recibo dinero por mi trabajo, pero no se hallan relacionados con la comercialización del software en forma directa: El año pasado solamente realicé conversiones de mas de 35 bases de datos al formato MARC21 (con la ayuda de dos catalogadoras de la UNCuyo) y muchas de ellas han sido insertas en instancias de Koha, he procesado planillas Excel con información como inventario e ISBN y he obtenido de servidores Z3950 mas de 3000 registros MARC21 libremente disponibles de diversas fuente. En el transcurso han trabajado conmigo 5 pasantes de la carrera de informática quienes han aprendido Perl, Koha (BDF) y MARC21. Ellos me han ayudado a realizar las diversas instalaciones. Actualmente hay en Bolivia 3 programadores que han sido capacitados con nuestra metodología, que se hallan adaptando nuestra solución para problemas puntuales de una gran universidad estatal.
