Anybody else having trouble getting into the wiki? Here's the error: Unable to connect to database server This either means that the username and password information in your settings.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the MySQL database server. This could mean your hosting provider's database server is down. The MySQL error was: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111). Cindy

koha with ldap

dear koha users, I have koha 2.2.5 working with ldap authentication on sles9, but seem to have a small issue: Every time an ldap user logs into koha, his/hers details are reset from the ldap server. So all updates through koha are lost. My ldap contains only limited info, and adding more details in koha is useless, this way. Is there a way to prevent this, or will I simple have to start adding ALL details in my corporate ldap server..? Regards, Mourik Jan

moving to Koha from an older system.

Hi, I'd like if possible to solicit a little advice for a group in Dublin who I'm assisting with a move to Koha. They can export UKMarc and USMarc from their existing system, but not Marc21. As far as we can tell Marc21 is the system which Koha defaults to. The old systems all place stuff like the copy data under different tag numbers so this doesn't work entirely as is. It seems like we can remap Koha's Marc tag stuff to suit our needs. Alternatively, we can convert Marc->XML, make changes to the XML and convert back again. My experience, such as it is, is that with software like this one is best being in the long term sticking as close to the defaults as possible. For this reason, I'm leaning toward doing the conversion up to Marc21 once and for all. As I see it, their Marc data will then be in an up-to-date standard format. I had a look at XML::Simple last night which, although rather slow on a large Marc file, does seem to be a fairly straightforward way of arbitrarily remapping the XML file automatically. I am happy to post the script if I get it working. So, am I nuts to even try this? Should we just remap things in Koha? Is there a third, better way to do this? Gavin

Hi friends I am using koha window version. server information is as follows: Koha version2.2.4 OS version Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] Perl version5.008007 MySQL versionmysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.26, for Win32 (ia32) Apache version I have successfully started using circulation through koha. but there is a problem in issue section. I have defined issuing rules for the students as after 7 days they have to pay Rs 5 per day as fine. But when i make a checkout to the user, It shows the fine from the very first day in user's account. I don,t know where I am doing wrong. Web based installation of Koha for a web site / nothing installed on the home computer

Dear S. and Josh, et. all, I just signed up for the list and read what I could find helpful. Thank you Josh for your reply earlier; and yes I did contact Liblime, but the price I was given, $2,500 per year for a library of under 20,000 items was well beyond my means; as well as paying someone to install, which Liblime didn't give me a price for be said it would be more than the yearly subscription; hence my further requests. In this case I need a solution that I can do myself. I basically need to set up a web based library automation catalog for as close to free as possible. S. said he was going to paste my message here, but I didn't see it so I am pasting it bellow. Josh: earlier you replied that Koha could be installed on most web based servers that are subscription based. Pardon me, but I would like you add one more degree of detail, if you will.
