when I try to search using the asian character, i can't find the book, but when i search through the ISBN and it shows the books in the asian character, I need help on this to fix the search problem thanks _________________________________________________________________ On the road to retirement? Item Number field

Hi, we're mapping the marc data (from a UKMarc export from Alice/Oasis) for our Koha install and the Items.Itemnumber causes an error unless it is set to tab -1. That is unless it is ignored and not managed by Koha. We need the item number to be information associated with an item, or some other way of doing an item count. What are we doing wrong? However other accompanying standards are much more rigid. If you hope to make use of shared data (i.e. download records via Z39.50 or otherwise), you have to keep those standards in mind unless you want to be making a lot of 'corrections' to what you download to match your local practices. For example, most North American libraries would use MARC standards to code information for their ILS in conjunction with the standards prescribed in (some version of) the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules 2nd edition (AACR2R), which include standards for capitalization and punctuation from the International Standard for Bibliographic Description (General) or ISBD(G). Taking your example from above, then, a work with the title _Computer Science_ would be encoded as follows according to those standards: 245 10 $a Computer science or 245 10 $a Computer science. *** You could also encode it as 245 10 $a Computer science. -- if you really wanted to follow the full traditional punctuation (which most libraries and ILS don't). *** I would include the period at the end just for clarity. Note the punctuation prescribed by common standards. The standards that you are using, incidentally, are encoded in the Leader (sometimes called the 000). Hi! I´m Demian and I work in a government offce in Brazil and I´m responsible for their ILS. The have their own system but it´s old and it´s starting to get slow and doesn´t offer stability. We are making a small research to find out which free systems are out there and if it´s easy or not to migrate from the old system. I Basicaly have two options. Gnuteca that is a open software solution developed here in Brazil and Koha. These systems are pretty well developed and similar in their capacity, but I feel koha has some more sophisticated features. The only problem is that it still hasn´t got a Portuguese translation(at least I didn´t find any documentation regarding this), but that´s not trouble as I can easily translate it´s interface and maybe some other documentation if necessary. My question is if koha supports multiple libraries and if anyone know about translations. Thanks! Demian

Here's the million dollar question: If the MARC folders appear on our WIN2000 server, why are the BIBLIO FRAMEWORK and the LINKS KOHA-MARC DB completely empty? And what do we do to fix it? Has anyone else run into this problem? Also, what is the "TEST" database? Currently, the server indicates we have three databases associated with KOHA: Blank 223 (which is where we can see the "marc_" files), SQL, and TEST. I have spent two weeks trying to find my MARC21 database "choices" in both the Biblio Framework and the LinksKoha-MARC DB but both are completely blank. My IT person can see the various MARC folders (marc_blbl-subfield, marc_breeding, marc_subfield_structure, marc_subfield_table, etc.) on the server within a window titled "WinMySQLadmin 1.4 so it appears that everything has been downloaded. Install problem - SQL errors...

Hello, I`ve been trying to install Koha 2.2.4 for several days. I succeeded without big problems with installing it with Mysql 4.0.20, however it appeared that I need 5.0.21 because of UTF-8 and polish charset support. I reinstalled Linux (Arch)(screwed up a few things and wanted a clean install) and put Mysql 5.0.21 in with all Perl things and so on. Mysql server seems to work fine, phpMyAdmin connects to it without problems, mysqladmin from command line also does. Koha installs without problems until database creation - then it stops and displays this message: ERROR 1064 (42000) at line 772: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'return char(4) default NULL, renewals tinyint(4) default NULL, timestamp tim' at line 9 followed with a whole bunch of DBD::mysql errors. Dear Friends Hi I am using Koha window version. Server information is as follows: Koha version2.2.4 OS version Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] Perl version5.008007 MySQL versionmysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.26, for Win32 (ia32) Apache version I am facing problem with the authorities. whenever I tried to add new authority it is not working. For Example When I am indexing a book, and place of publication of that book is, say London. So Is it possible to add london or anything which i need again and again during the indexing or somewhere else. ldap authentication

hi we are an engineering institution and we want to migrate to koha. we have tested out 2.2.5 on FC3. Sunday, July 30, 2006 20:08 CDT Hi, Kim, I don't remember ever seeing that Koha could import MARC-like data (MARC-post?) from a text file per se, but since you have MARC data in a delimited text file format, you can use a free tool like ****MARCEdit****, available gratis from the Library of Congress MARC Specialized Tools page off of its MARC Records, Systems and Tools section at URL <http://www.loc.gov/marc/marctools.html> to convert the data into true MARC format, which Koha definitely can handle. The built-in instructions are pretty clear (for example, I don't believe you could use the sign that you have for text delimiting, but that can be fixed easily). However, if that is not convenient (enough) for you, and if you have the text file handy, I could convert it for you readily. Just send it to me with a note off listserv. Hope this helps. Hello. I`m wondering how I, if it`s possible, could import Marc-post directly from a text-file. I have about 1000 Marc-biblios in a text-file seperated with the sign "^".
