Hi all, We am now testing koha 2.2.4 on a windows xp. In Koha, I see that there is an option for autocalculate barcode (system preferences). I set this option "on" and turn off marc support (as instructed b user manual). However, when add biblio item, we still have to add manually the barcode into the textbox. Migrating Data from Windows to Linux

I installed Koha for windows initially and catalogued my entire collection. I have now successfully installed Koha on Linux and would like to use the same database. I tried copying the database folder onto the linux database folder, but it doesnt seem to work. How do I use my earlier data? Maddy

Hi Nitin, I have tried once, migrating from windows to Koha. You can backup your Database using either mysql command or Mysql Administrator if you are not familiar using command line. mysql Administrator is pretty easy. You can download it from mysql.com. You can follow the following step: 1. Check your Koha version. eg: 2.2.4. So, you need to install 2.2.4 version first on Linux. 2. Install Koha on Linux.Make sure it is running well. 3. Backup your Koha database in Windows. it will generate sql script. 4. Restore database (run this script) in Linux. 5. Map database which Koha would read to your new database. You can do this inside /etc/koha.conf After that, if it is work well, you can run upgrade script to upgrade to a newer version (eg: 2.2.5). Hope it can help. I am aware of tag 852c and this tag is visible in the default MARC framework. However the comment in front of it says that this tag is not being used. How do I make it appear in the form while editing item data? Maddy

centos dependencies with yaz

Hi All, doing a centos install - good news: most of the missing dependecies on a clean install can be added by enabling centosplus in the /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo sudo vim CentOS-Base.repo .... name=centosplus ... enabled=1 other news: libssl.so.5, libcrypto.so.5, and libwrap.so.0 are still MIA. I installed the openssl from the dries repository cd /etc/yum.repos.d/ sudo wget http://soundlinuxtraining.com/portal/file.php/1/misc/dries.repo sudo rpm --import http://dries.studentenweb.org/rpm/RPM-GPG-KEY.dries.txt however that didn't seem to finish the job. if anyone has any clues on those three packages it would be great, looking forward to reporting back with a completed effort. How to setup httpd.conf to use domain/opac instead of opac.domain or domain:port

Hi all I would like to have the opac served from the URL http://nsw.royalsoc.org.au/opac instead of from a port say http://nsw.royalsoc.org.au:8000 The reason is that I have the Intranet being served from 8080 and although I can setup opac at say :8000 it's blocked from my work here and other ports such as 9000 and many others are blocked. I know 80 and 8080 seem OK. Hence I have setup the Intranet from :8080 and it works fine. I'm having problems in working out how to get http://nsw.royalsoc.org.au/opac working. Note: I don't want to use http://opac.royalsoc.org.au/ as I'm using http://www.royalsoc.org.au/ and http://qld.royalsoc.org.au/ and so opac.royalsoc.org.au does not "fit in". Wednesday, June 14, 2006 22:47 CDT Hi, José, I'll have to try to answer quicker this time, as my computer crashed again before the last quick answer was finished. Why would you want to edit the register as you call it (usually referred to as the Directory)? What is the source of the "analysis"? Normally, one wouldn't want to edit the Directory because it provides the structure to the long string of alphanumeric characters that compose a MARC record, allowing Koha and other library programs the ability to take the data and fill in a table (the Directory allows a line to become a matrix). Were you having some problem importing MARC data? Exporting? If you want/need to edit MARC data prior to importing into Koha there are free tools available such as the very useful MARCEdit. You can download it gratis off the MARC Specialized Tools page at the Library of Congress site at: URL <http://www.loc.gov/marc/marctools.html> . This tool will decompile the Directory properly into a tagged format that will allow you to edit the field data. When done editing, you can re-convert records into true MARC and MARCEdit will make all the necessary changes to the Directory. I hope that this information has helped.
