new koha installation not working properly

Hello, I've got a new Koha installation that is behaving rather oddly. I should say that, to begin with, the database tables 'systempreferences' and 'itemtypes' did not exist -- I had to create them manually. Subsequently, I had to populate 'systempreferences' with as many of the entries that I could find, but I suspect I haven't got them all, or that some of the settings are incorrect. At any rate, the problem appears to be that, once I add a biblio record to the system, I can't see it. I try searching for it, and I get a blank screen: nothing shows up when I try to display using 'normal', 'marc', or 'isbd'. What should I be looking for? Does anyone know what might have gone wrong during the installation process? I certainly didn't see anything amiss... Further detail: Koha version: 2.2.5 Operating system: Xubuntu (descendent of Debian) Any help at all that can be offerred will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, JR

French English on same server

Hello Koha, I installed Koha 2.2.5 on A gentoo linux box. My question, can I have both french and english versions on the same server? Right now I only have the english version. How would one prceed to add the french content to the web server. Thanks

Koha on Ubuntu Dapper PC

I followed the Matthew Metzger's guide to install Koha on Ubuntu on a PC. When I tried to search some biblio the server page opac-detail.pl?bib=1 crash (Internal Server Error). I don't know which perl module is wrong. Please, someone could help me to solve this problem

2.2.4 to 2.2.5 upgrade problem

Hello, I've set up an extra koha server using the process described in my koha on ubuntu guide. http://matthew.metzger.cc/wiki/index.php?title=Install_Koha_on_Ubuntu_6.06 The old database was on koha 2.2.4, the new installation is 2.2.5 I have inserted my database by deleting the default database created by the set up, creating a new empty database named Koha, and then using "mysql -uroot -p Koha < 2006_09_21_koha.sql" to insert the database that I had dumped from my other koha installation on the old server. Everything seems to work great and the data seems to be there, but when I search for items in the opac, they just don't show up. It lists the correct number of results, but the fields are just blank. I have put screen shots up at the url below. http://matthew.metzger.cc/wiki/index.php?title=Koha_upgrade_problem I also ran the updater script after adding the line "use lib '/usr/local/koha/intranet/modules';" directly under the "#Koha modules" line near the beginning of the script. To a non-programmer like me, the above passage implies that Koha wants/prefers 11-digit barcodes. Could someone share what needs to be done? Where I am, 14-digit numbers seem much more common and are (commercially) much more readily available. >From all the info I was able to find online, 11 digits also didn't seem to work with the formulae I could find for constructing valid Code 39 numbers with check digits. Possibly just my bad math skills, but I would really prefer to keep the check digits option open, again in the vein of keeping as many options as possible open for the future. You can find out a typical library barcode. e.g. 3 9001 04796 2694, where 3 means "item", 9001 means a library, others are item number. Most libraries use codabar, and there are a few use Code 39. Hi Paul, I think the easiest option is to use the mysqldump application and select the tables you want, or backup everything and copy everything. I moved the hole schebang from an old computer to another yesterday, including all my old settings, see also the kohadocs pages. Hmm it sounds like y'all are talking about two different things. you are talking about net::z3950, he's talking about net::z3950::zoom. you probably could use zoom, I don't know. But the install document says Net::z3950 so thats what I went with. Your error and set up sounds a lot like one I experienced, so I will tell you in (hopefully specific) steps what I did to make it work. First, I went to the a website (I didn't write down which one, eek. So, lets say I found it on cpan somewhere) and downloaded the net::z3950 module as an archive(tar.gz). I used version 0.50. Then I unpacked it. Then I opened Makefile.PL using a text editor. I don't remember which one. (They always say you should use vi editor, but its so tricky. I never know if its saved or not.) Anyways I commented out the last three lines, like this: sub MY::postamble { '$(MYEXTLIB): yazwrap/Makefile cd yazwrap && $(MAKE) INC=$(PASTHRU_INC) $(PASTHRU)'; } #sub MY::post_constants { # 'PASTHRU_INC=$(INC)' #} Then saved it (if using vi, make sure you press esc and :wq, not :q as I am prone to do :) Then I double checked it, to make sure it saved, and then I was able to install it using perl Makefile.PL make make install and lo and behold I got my z3950 to work. I don't know if that will work for you, especially since I don't understand why I got that error in the first place. But, I figure it can't hurt to try. Good luck and let me know if it works. -Heidi

Starting z39.50

Hi, This is my first post to the list. I'm impressed by all the work that's gone into Koha, but I now have a problem and can't find the answer in the documentation nor on the mailing list archive. I'm guessing it's my lack of techie knowledge... My library recently installed Koha 2.2.5 on Debian, but I can't get the z39.50 function to work. When I try to Add Biblio as instructed in the Koha 2.2 Users Guide, I get the message "Still ?? records to go" over and over. According to the manual, this means I haven't started the z39.50 daemon. I've tried starting the z39.50 daemon by running the script z3950-daemon-launch.sh from the command line, but it aborts with the error message "line 17: no such file or directory" (apparently it can't find z3950-daemon-options). I noticed that the script z3950-daemon-launch.sh should actually be run during system startup from something called rc.local, but I don't know how to do this. Will the z3950 daemon launch script only work if run from a system startup file?
