Moving from Fedora to Ubuntu

I'm about to shift the server that currently runs Koha 2.2.3 from fedora Core 2 to Ubuntu Dapper Drake. I propose to use the opportunity to upgrade to the latest Koha (2.2.5). I'm proposing to do this as follows: 1. Dump Koha database 2. Wipe machine 3. Install Ubuntu 4. Install Koha pre-requisites 5. Install virgin Koha 2.2.5 6. Restore Koha database from (1) Does this look reasonable? Or should I restore the original database between (4) and (5) and let the installation have its wicked way with it? Help and advice very welcome. Thanks Nigel

barcode scanner

I found a wedge barcode scanner in a drawer yippee! odd thing is that when I zap the barcode it automagically issues a carriage return which blanks out the fields and reloads the page because all of the other REQUIRED fields are not filled in yet...and appear way down on the page...i.e. adding members is there some method of preventing this from occuring? or do I just tell the volunteer lady to deal with it and don't scan until AFTER you enter in all of the other fields? --Huck

issuing problem

i try the system to check out book from the library, but what i found out is that the book is not available to check out, but the book is still available? error in MARC check

We are trying to begin to use KOHA. Now we are working with MARC structure. When we run "MARC CHECK" we got the following errors: ----------- itemnum The field itemnum MUST be mapped The correspounding subfield MUST be in with -1 (ignore) tab itemtype NOT mapped the biblioitems.itemtype field MUST : be mapped to a MARC subfield, the correspounding subfield MUST have authorised_value="itemtype" homebranch NOT mapped the items.homebranch field MUST : be mapped to a MARC subfield, the correspounding subfield MUST have authorised value="branches" holdingbranch NOT mapped the items.holdingbranch field MUST : be mapped to a MARC subfield, the correspounding subfield MUST have authorised value="branches" ------------- We would appreciate whether some one can help us informing where to fit these errors. How do I issue periodicals in koha?

I have a library where I have over 100 periodicals, some are monthly, some weekly. My library lends periodicals with a specific charge. how do i set it up in koha? Specifically, how do I issue periodicals to borrowers?? I have done the following steps: -set up a budget -set up a supplier -added a subscription -created a rule for issue numbering -"received" a few issues After that I have hit a block and am not able to figure out how to lend out the periodicals to borrowers. reports using barcodes

Hello, We are trying to fix some barcode problems. Originally barcodes were entered as a 4 digit number, ignoring the 0 at the beginning. This is now causing problems and we would like to fix it. We need to create a report listing all those items with 4 digit barcodes so we know what items need fixing. I don't know how to do this, or if it is even possible. The inventory/stocktaking function is the closest I can get, but this is of course by call number not barcode. Any thoughts? Simple Cataloging Help

Dear all, I want to do simple cataloging. I just need to have Title, Author, ISBN, Publisher, Year, Genre, Group. What do you propose so achieve such goal? I want to make it simple for who catalogs and the MARC form is a bit scary... Since we just need these fields I would like show to the user a form with these values. Should I create another framework (MARC structure...) Needing help... Thanks

changing look and feel of KOHA

Hi I am pretty new in linux and koha,though i have succesfully installed Koha,i don't know how to change the look and feel of the interfaces,i would like to place the organizations logo on all the pages at the top of each page and play with colours to reflect the corporate image. Any one on how to?

hello all, If you use an ldap backend with koha, you might find this interesting: I have created a template to use with ldapadmin (http://ldapadmin.sourceforge.net/) The template adds required koha fields to LDAP Admin, thus making it easy and convenient to add the required koha fields to your new and existing ldap users. Note: my template is a version 1.0, so don't expect this to be perfect, and also the template feature itself is new with current release of ldapadmin (0.9.9) so I don't think it's 100% error free yet. But I'm using it here, and I haven't had big issues so far. Hope this is of help to someone. mj
