new koha installation not working properly

Hello, I've got a new Koha installation that is behaving rather oddly. I should say that, to begin with, the database tables 'systempreferences' and 'itemtypes' did not exist -- I had to create them manually. Subsequently, I had to populate 'systempreferences' with as many of the entries that I could find, but I suspect I haven't got them all, or that some of the settings are incorrect. At any rate, the problem appears to be that, once I add a biblio record to the system, I can't see it. I try searching for it, and I get a blank screen: nothing shows up when I try to display using 'normal', 'marc', or 'isbd'. What should I be looking for? Does anyone know what might have gone wrong during the installation process? I certainly didn't see anything amiss... Further detail: Koha version: 2.2.5 Operating system: Xubuntu (descendent of Debian) Any help at all that can be offerred will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, JR

Awesome, thanks a heap! I think we would see a lot more people running Koha if they only needed to put in two CDs and very little effort. Hello Koha, I installed Koha 2.2.5 on A gentoo linux box. My question, can I have both french and english versions on the same server? Right now I only have the english version. How would one prceed to add the french content to the web server. Thanks

Koha on Ubuntu Dapper PC

I followed the Matthew Metzger's guide to install Koha on Ubuntu on a PC. When I tried to search some biblio the server page opac-detail.pl?bib=1 crash (Internal Server Error). I don't know which perl module is wrong. Please, someone could help me to solve this problem

2.2.4 to 2.2.5 upgrade problem

Hello, I've set up an extra koha server using the process described in my koha on ubuntu guide. http://matthew.metzger.cc/wiki/index.php?title=Install_Koha_on_Ubuntu_6.06 The old database was on koha 2.2.4, the new installation is 2.2.5 I have inserted my database by deleting the default database created by the set up, creating a new empty database named Koha, and then using "mysql -uroot -p Koha < 2006_09_21_koha.sql" to insert the database that I had dumped from my other koha installation on the old server. Everything seems to work great and the data seems to be there, but when I search for items in the opac, they just don't show up. It lists the correct number of results, but the fields are just blank. I have put screen shots up at the url below. http://matthew.metzger.cc/wiki/index.php?title=Koha_upgrade_problem I also ran the updater script after adding the line "use lib '/usr/local/koha/intranet/modules';" directly under the "#Koha modules" line near the beginning of the script. The whole thing with barcodes has been puzzling me for quite a while, and it isn't for lack of trying to understand what Koha requires/prefers. So before anybody tells me to read the manual (#$&%'in or otherwise), let me quote what I was able to find in Koha documentation, and ask for ***** someone among the cognoscenti (programmers/developpers) please to clarify this for those of us who are not programmers, so that we can figure out what the Koha and MARC coding requirements are. ***** This is what it says in the Koha 2.2 Users Guide as of today at URL <http://www.kohadocs.org/usersguide/ch01s04.html#d0e1564> | *** Currently, the barcodes generator works best with 11-digit barcodes. *** | [emphasis added] The last few digits of longer barcodes will not be printed | under the barcode itself, and shorter barcodes will have the check digit | printed after the barcode number. You should have a Perl programmer alter | the Koha code for you if you wish to use something other than 11-digit | barcodes. If there is a more relevant passage somewhere else in the guide, my humble apologies for missing it. I have sincerely tried to find the answer on my own. To a non-programmer like me, the above passage implies that Koha wants/prefers 11-digit barcodes. The example you cited, Yan, I know too: but it is 14-digit. ***Are 14-digit numbers of the type Yan cited in use in Koha libraries?*** What adjustments need to be made to accommodate such? Could someone share what needs to be done? Where I am, 14-digit numbers seem much more common and are (commercially) much more readily available. >From all the info I was able to find online, 11 digits also didn't seem to work with the formulae I could find for constructing valid Code 39 numbers with check digits. Possibly just my bad math skills, but I would really prefer to keep the check digits option open, again in the vein of keeping as many options as possible open for the future. You can find out a typical library barcode. e.g. 3 9001 04796 2694, where 3 means "item", 9001 means a library, others are item number. Most libraries use codabar, and there are a few use Code 39. Code 39 allows you to encode alphabetic letters and I chose Code 39 for a project. You do not need a software, but a reader will pick up these barcode very quickly. Hi Paul, I think the easiest option is to use the mysqldump application and select the tables you want, or backup everything and copy everything. I moved the hole schebang from an old computer to another yesterday, including all my old settings, see also the kohadocs pages.
