Hi Kohaers, Is it possible to use the Koha OPAC with another vendor's ILS...say, Sirsi? Is anyone doing this? Is this a silly idea? Geoff

MySQL using 99% CPU and making web site slow to a crawl

Hi all, Over the last few days that the web side of our Koha installation has been slowing to a crawl. It usually happens in the afternoon (our time) and has only been happening since librarians from interstate have been making entries for their libraries. So it could be related to something they are doing, or an entry they have made, I'm waiting for them to get back to me on what they were doing on Koha when the system slowed down. I logged on when this happened yesterday noticed that MySQL is using 99% of the CPU time. I scheduled a time last night to restart MySQL and Apache and when I logged back on Koha was running fine and MySQL was not using up 99% CPU time. I restarted MySQL and Apache and Koha is behaving normally. I don't know what to do to investigate MySQL to find out why it is using up so much CPU time, or if there is some abnormal data entered in the Koha web site that causes MySQL to do this. Can anyone give me some tips or pointers on what to do? Thanks, Greg p.s. this Debian host has been up for almost 200 days and is fully patched

Questions for setting Parameters

Item Types -- For this, do I use what I want in a library or what I have now. I am finding in my old automation system I have a plethora of the category or "language materials". I find this on line 911 of the MARC record. Am I looking at the right place? Is there a list of accepted item types for MARC records. I have looked at the Library of Congress website and not found the answer to that question. I am assuming that I have some work to do to clean up my current records before I migrate them over. Setting up the MARC tag structure -- Are any MARC fields loaded or do I need to load all that I will use? I believe that I have to load them all, but I want to check before I start that process. Thanks for all the questions of mine that have been answered and any answers to these. I know I will have more as the process continues. I also know that I will be thrilled when I have finished this and can move from the lost beginner to someone who can help others. z39.50 configuration assist ;)

I've got Koha setup. I'm trying to get this Z39.50 stuff working =) Maybe I'm confused as to what is actually supposed to happen. This was my understanding: Click on Catalogue Click on Add biblio Click 'Create Empty Biblio' Input the Title and ISBN number of the book Click on the 'z3950 search' button and it should go fetch the juicy Biblio Info from whatever z3950 servers you've entered during setup. Can anyone confirm or correct me please? Also...does anyone have a Z39.50 Server they KNOW works that I could use to test? perl module problems on Mac OS X Server 10.4

I've been having terrible problems installing the perl module XML::Simple, which is required by Koha, on Mac OS X Server 10.4. Can anyone offer any suggestions? The error message I get is the following: Fatal Error: Your default XML Parser (XML::SAX::PurePerl) is broken. ... One way to avoid the problem is to install XML::SAX::Expat -- it will install itself as the system default XML parser and then you will be able to install XML::Simple successfully. I have installed XML::SAX::Expat but continue to get the error message. I do not know how to check whether XML::SAX::Expat is the default parser. I have been unable to find a discussion of this problem on the web. Minor things borrower and export

Hello all, We started using Koha 2.2.5 a few weeks ago, and almost everything works wonderful (including Z3950 searches and imports, I love these...) There are 2 things however, I cannot figure out. First, Every single borrower I have or enter as new, will show up as "borrower leaving soon" even if the expiry date is set a year from the entry date. Did I miss setting a parameter somewhere? Second, If I try to export a report to the screen it shows up fine. However, if I try to export to Open Office, I get no file or a file with only the first column filled in, only numbers. Any help or suggestions would be welcome.... Running on Debian Sarge. Thanks again, Marty

Importing MARC Records

OPAC user password

In Koha v.2.2.6 (windows), looks like the user name and password was set up in intranet. I remember that in earlier versions, user is allowed to change their password in OPAC. npl theme broken at v.2.2.6

More details: npl theme does not come with the graphics with v.2.2.6. it comes with a black and white template for both intranet and opac. The layout for opac looks very strange too. marc subfield editing error message

We have just installed koha 2.2.4 in our library on the windows platforms, but are unable however to edit the subfields in the marc subfield structure admin page. We keep getting an error message when we click the edit link - Premature end of script headers: marc_subfields_structure.pl If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
