Please keep in mind that effectively you aren't asking for a normal public library setup at all here, you're asking for a normal setup for _multiple_ public libraries (or multiple libraries of different types). Now, I can only imagine that this is a lot of programming for someone (or more likely, several someones.) In short, you're asking for a lot right now. It goes back to good, fast and cheap. You can have 2. I'm willing to wait, because I'm on the good and cheap plan>:). That being said, I'm starting to hear more rumbles from the library community to the effect of "Gee, we wish that we can use Koha for our consortium" or "Gee, it would be neat if a bunch of libraries could get together and use Koha, but we want to retain our individual policies in regards to borrowers and due dates, et cetera." So, if some very, very, very charitable developer out there happened to eventually put this on the road map (or better if it's there and worded differently or I'm too dumb to have noticed put it on the chopping block) that would be splendid. Also splendid would be to assign these features an amount in US dollars in terms of development costs, just in case someone with a big bag of money happens to wish to make them appear out of thin air for folks that are on the fast and good plan. Koha on windows

Hi, I have installed Koha2.2.4 on Windows and am testing it for usage for a private library. My problem is that the koha installer expects the mysql and perl to reside in a particular folder. I would like to know whether I can bypass this restriction so that koha will not look for the specific location while installing. Has anyone tried installing koha manually or has some idea on how I can do this? Please help!!! Thanks, Venita.

What Branch Categories actually DO?

Hello again, I`m back from vacation and still struggling with assigning Borrowers to Branches. Thanks to Steven F. Baljkas for his reply, his solution could work, but it`s too troublesome to maintain. However, in Koha documentation I found that I can set "IndependantBranches" variable so branches are treated as independant libraries with common database but access only to their "own" records and borrowers. That`s better than common everything, but still no good for me. What I need is: - a common book database for all branches, WITH proper restrictions (no modifications, circulation etc. of items from other branch); - a common borrower database for all branches, but I need .... - ... ability to assign a borrower to one, two, three or all branches with respectable issue rules... - ... and respectable membership policies, which actually narrows to enrollment period and enrollment fee... - ... with fines / payments COMMON to all branches a borrower belongs to. I mean: acount suspended in one branch - automatically suspended in all and so on. In other words, I need my branches independent in area of adding/modifying items and circulation, and enrollment periods and fees. Everything else: borrower account / card number, fines account and so on I want COMMON. I`m dreaming about set of checkboxes with branch names and fields containing dates of membership expiry in borrower properties page. Can it be done in KOHA 2.2.4? Later version, maybe? How? I really need this feature, because if I can`t make my branches independant in the exact way I described above, the system will be useless for my library and I will be forced into another commercial or at best free, but not open source software. Koha 2.3.0 problem instaling

Hi all, I am trying to install koha 2.3.0 but I got the following error: Unable to recognise encoding of this document at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/XML/SAX/PurePerl/EncodingDetect.pm line 96. Document requires an element [Ln: 2, Col: 0] BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at scripts/updater/updatedatabase line 21. Problem updating database... Any ideas? XML::SAX is up to date, so says CPAN...Thank you.

Printing Patron Barcodes

Hi all- Just wondering if I can print patron barcodes out. I am in an elementary school and we would like to be able to print out student barcodes for each classroom so that when they come to the library we can just scan their names when they come to checkout. Database Erro installing Koha

Hi Chris, I'm trying to install Koha ver 2.2.5 on Ubuntu Linux. However I'm having some problems while running the installer.pl. The initial errors got fixed by putting the backquotes over "return" keyword in the sql syntax in koha.mysql. But now I'm getting these errors: DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Invalid default value for 'aqbudgetid' at scripts/updater/updatedatabase line 1185. DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Invalid default value for 'id' at scripts/updater/updatedatabase line 1185. synch'ing borrowers creating column textmessaging creating column password creating column flags creating column userid creating column homezipcode creating column zipcode creating column sort1 creating column sort2 synch'ing items creating column itemcallnumber synch'ing biblio synch'ing biblioitems creating column place Also the opac interface does not seem to be running. I mean when I do "http://localhost:8000" ...it gives me an error saying "Unable to connect..." . The other applications running on localhost seem to be working fine. I used port 8000 because http is running on port 80 ... is that a problem? Could you please help me out? I've been trying hard to make this work. Some advice would be really helpful. Dewey call numbers in MARC/Koha

With the help of various kind people on this list I'm gradually getting my head around MARC. Our library staff complained the other day that Dewey call numbers weren't showing up in the catalogue, even though they had entered them in under MARC tag 082. It seems that (by default) Koha is using a different tag (can't remember the number but it's one of the 9xx's) for the call number it shows in the catalogue. Is there a reason for this? What's the best way to get around the problem?
