you need to first link this field to a koha field in the marc structure then you need to add the opac templetes for this field if you edited the templetes and you know a java or some thing like that you will easly figure our what you should to edit. Christine, Years ago, when we did our retrospective conversion, we purchased the authority files. Since then I have downloaded any needed as I catalog. They are freely available at http://authorities.loc.gov/ I have also submitted additional cross references, new headings, and new LC classification numbers through the SACO program. There is no formal training, just follow the guidelines and you too can enhance the LCSHs. http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/saco/ Until such time as our catalogs validate headings against the LC site on-the-fly and then send patron search requests to the LC site and match their term against the files and then submit that for searching against our catalogs I can't see authority files going away. Even then not. Because there can be local enhancements. Here in Texas a group of school librarians are adding the state education standards to the LC authority records so that teachers can search on the standard and pull up materials for their class. A big job, but when divided across many librarians across Texas not quite so daunting. The trend seems to be quite the reverse. Everybody on the Web is getting into the thesaurus, ontology game. There are more controlled vocabularies now than ever. dear friends, i'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has downloaded, created, or purchased authority files for their catalog. (is everyone getting by just fine w/o them?) i like to see the authority lists for subjects, because i find it can help or inspire my searches, but maybe the trend is that authority files are slowly becoming obsolete. best regards, christine

issue between koha 2.5 and mysql 5.0

Hello Partha, There are indeed several issues with running Koha on MySQL 5.0 and not just with Windows so Im posting this on the Koha general list also. First, to log in to Koha you need to make some changes to your MySQL authentication. With the default installation you will get something like: >> DBI connect('mycomputer:localhost','koha',...) failed: Client does not support >> authentication protocolrequested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client at >> C:\usr\koha225\modules/C4/Context.pm line 409. You can overcome the problem by editing line 1808 of Install.pm from: print system("$mysqldir/bin/mysql -u$mysqluser -e \"insert into user (Host,User,Password) values ('$hostname','$user',password('$pass'))\" mysql\;"); to: print system("$mysqldir/bin/mysql -u$mysqluser -e \"insert into user (Host,User,Password) values ('$hostname','$user',OLD_PASSWORD('$pass'))\" mysql\;"); (Thanks to Andrew Koebrick (Andrew.Koebrick(a)state.mn.us) for that solution.) Or, of course, you can execute the mysql command manually to do the same thing if you dont use the install script and which you probably didnt do to install Koha on Windows; anyway, that is what I did. Then there is a new reserved word in MySQL 5 return which is used as a field name in the issues table in Koha. So in any place that is referenced it must be enclosed in single quotes, or back-quotes. I havent found an instance of that in the Koha modules or scripts but Im still looking. It will be an issue if you write any of your own sql scripts for ad-hoc reporting. Finally, there are a couple of modules that must be modified because of changes in the SQL syntax rules with MySQL 5.
