Hi All, I successfully installed Koha 2.2.9 on a Debian Etch machince with Perl 5.008008, Mysql 5.0.32, and Apache2. Now I'm trying to bulk import some Marc records from winnebago. But I'm getting this error - Arguments must be MARC::Field object at /usr/local/koha/intranet/modules/C4/Biblio.pm line 1440. I found a thread about missing 090 fields. I used MarcEdit to add this field to the Marc records but I still get this error. I installed Marc-record, Marc-charset, Marc-lint, and Marc-xml for the cvs at sourceforge according to the Installing Koha on Debian Sarge how to on the kohadocs website. What I'm I doing wrong? It looks like it is complaining about not finding the 090, which it expects to delete and then update with the new Koha biblionumber. However, you can work around the problem by adding a 090 to each record -- it shouldn't matter what it contains, just as long as the tag is present. Dear All I have downloaded koha vmware virtual appliance. It is working fine in VMware player. But i am unable to load its gui. I used startx command on shell but it says that is a wrong command. What should i do to access intranet and opac? Cyberarian

Hello everybody Sorry for the long post. I habe a problem importing my data from my old "handmade" library cataloging system. My attempt to use Koha for our school library is now a second one. I have installed 2.2.7 on debian sarge before without giving much attention to encondings and character settings :-(. In this installation I had entered 80 biblio records, partly imported by Z39.50 (after upgrading to 2.2.9) and partly entered manually. My current installation of Koha is 2.2.9 freshly installed on debian etch. This time I followed the recommandations by Joshua Ferraro on enconding and character sets on http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=encodingscratchpad and that seemes to solve some problems with encodings I experimented on the previous attempt. Using the Marc biblio export I exported all 80 records in a file. I checked this file using MarcEdit's MarcValidator and found some errors :-) After compiling the file into MARC I tried to import these records to the new installation using bulkmarcimport.pl and all went well! The biblios are avaiable together with the holding informations. Hurrah! I am not sure how large this group is but I would like to thank the community for such a great project. We are a public law library in the US researching this ILS solution as a migration from Voyager. Can anybody tell me how Koha deals with MARC Holdings Records? It appears there is no support at this time. We have a large number of these records and would prefer not to give them up if possible. All suggestions and/or input is welcome. Thanks! Jaye B. koha intranet vs inhouse intranet

Hello, my apologies if this is a really silly question but I'm not techie at all. I have recently discovered Koha, and am very excited about it. I have downloaded it (and apache, perl,& mysql) and managed to get it working - Yay! But the problem is that it seems to have disabled our own intranet, which used to be accessed by typing 'intranet' in the address bar. Is there some way of setting it up so that both Koha & our intranet can run simultaneously as I would hate to have to uninstall it, and am so looking forward to using it, but I can't afford to lose access to our intranet either. Mac Mini

I wanted to respond to poster who was wondering about the Mac mini. Here is something to think about: http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/08/28/faster.than.quad.core.g5/ I am not sure if you really need to worry about raid and hot swapable power supplies. These may not be needed. If you are doing full backups once a week and incrementals every day having a hard drive go down will not be a huge pain. Do not get me wrong, Raid is nice, but you are going to spend $350 for a quality raid by 3Ware. Look here for information on backup software: http://xanana.ucsc.edu/xtal/backup_X_and_fink.html If you are a large syten then a fully decked server would be a smart choice but if you are small do not waste your money like some people are suggesting here. You can always get something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822165026 to take care of your storage needs. Your only problem may be growth but that depends on the size of your library. There are other ones out there that connect with a PCIe card. You really need to think about how much disk space you will need. 250MB will probably be enough cosidering that the bulk of it will be text. A few people in this group think spending the money and having paying outside people to do it is the answer. Try it on your own at first and see what happens. You already own the Mac Mini you will lose nothing by installing the software and seeing what happens. If you do decide to go the server route I suggest installing Ubuntu for the software. There are a ton of tutorials on how to handle that stuff and the forums are great for help without the attitude you get from some of the other distros.
