Mac Mini

I wanted to respond to poster who was wondering about the Mac mini. Here is something to think about: http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/08/28/faster.than.quad.core.g5/ I am not sure if you really need to worry about raid and hot swapable power supplies. These may not be needed. If you are doing full backups once a week and incrementals every day having a hard drive go down will not be a huge pain. Do not get me wrong, Raid is nice, but you are going to spend $350 for a quality raid by 3Ware. Look here for information on backup software: http://xanana.ucsc.edu/xtal/backup_X_and_fink.html If you are a large syten then a fully decked server would be a smart choice but if you are small do not waste your money like some people are suggesting here. You can always get something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822165026 to take care of your storage needs. Your only problem may be growth but that depends on the size of your library. There are other ones out there that connect with a PCIe card. You really need to think about how much disk space you will need. 250MB will probably be enough cosidering that the bulk of it will be text. A few people in this group think spending the money and having paying outside people to do it is the answer. Try it on your own at first and see what happens. You already own the Mac Mini you will lose nothing by installing the software and seeing what happens. If you do decide to go the server route I suggest installing Ubuntu for the software. There are a ton of tutorials on how to handle that stuff and the forums are great for help without the attitude you get from some of the other distros.

Moving from 2.2.7 to 2.2.9

All, I am currently in the process of moving from 2.2.7 to 2.2.9 (which is much improved!) and have noticed some changes in the mappings. For example, in 2.2.7, items.itemlost was mapped to 952 z, but I see that in 2.2.9 it is 952 1. Also, biblioitems.classification was 942 i in 2.2.7 but now it's 942 j in 2.2.9. Are there any other changes? Is there a list somewhere? Also, how do you suggest I should change this? Should I reset 2.2.9 or try to convert my data now (plus convert the marc_subfield_table). In my initial conversion from my old proprietary database to 2.2.7, I had some conversion errors because of a faulty mapping table, so I'm being more careful this time. I can't believe the same people respond to all the questions

I get the same hanful of people repsonding to my questions... I though LOTS of people were working/using Koha... I can't be the only WINDOWS KOAH user out there... I have managed to find most of the answers but I still have a few lingering BUGS in the system... 1) How Do I Remove an Orphan Reserve from the Reserve list? I have a Reserve Priority 0 stuck that won't go away 2) what does the AUTHORITIES HEADING do? How Can I Remove it from OPAC? (we are and elementary school, I'm not sure we need it) 3) I fixed the bug where patrons with items out could not log into OPAC... but now they can't see what they have on hold... Any Ideas? 4) Some of the Reports do not run... I get errors... 5) How can I print an Inventory of a certain section of the library? (ex by dewey # etc... like print all 300s) I'll probably have more... BUT.. Once I get tis running... I may be able to get more schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore on board.... Fwd: web based installation documentation?

I have a problem with Bluehost.com that neither they allow their customers to have root access to their servers nor provide dedicated ports. As it is required for librarian interface and webopac. Can anybody suggest better way to get koha installed on any of the webhosting services provider's servers? We are desperately need of constructive suggestions, this will decide our future course of action on installing/using koha for our union catalogue. There are 25 theological and religious libraries in Bangalore would be joining to provide their catalogues for union catalogue project. OK.... I did this fix... And now I can get in when items are issued to a borrower... BUT!!!! You can no longer see what items you are putting on hold...this area is Blank in the OPAC... AND... Now I have an orphan item in my hold list that was previously on hold before the fix that I can't get rid of... SO... How do I get rid of the Orpahn Hold item... AND... How can I get the Opac to show the borrower what they have on hold...
