Found the Fix for TOO MANY ISSUES error

you must fix your circ2.pm file use the attached file I found (after lots of searching) to edit the circ2.pm file sub to many... Thanks to whoever made this fix... Koha became a little more of a certainty last night

Our board decided to move forward with seperating from our current consortium. We will be an independent library as of July 1, 2008. Is there a map of Koha's tables and fields? I need to start looking at what this will entail as a migration. Our system administrator once again assured me he can output all the MARC data as a standard file and that he can give me files for individual details such as item, hold, call number, and user data. Most of the data other than MARC will be in delimited with "|". We don't have alot of experience with SQL loading but he came up with a pretty interesting thought on sharing the process of migrating data out of Sirsi Unicorn. Apparently they have a site for the storing of API data. He proposed posting the information there so that other sites needing the information would have access without raising legal problems for the Koha project.

Too Many Issues...

I've set up the issuing rules... and I get TOO MANY ISSUES when I try to check out a book... HELP... If you have edited a file to fix this PLEASE let me know what file and what I have to change... Or email me a copy of a file that will work... If I can get htis going, I might be able to get more schools online with KOHA... Borrower Catagories

We are two small elementary schools setting up Koha, with the hopes of eventually expanding it to encompass our entire school district (including High School). Would some users who also do schools be willing to share, in brief, how you have set up your "Borrower Categories", what that structure does for you, and how easy/hard it is to make changes down the road?

Testing Koha

Please forgive me if this seems like a really dumb question but, here goes...... I am currently working at a small elementary school that is using Spectrum/Sagebrush as their media software. We are currently looking into changing the media software for the whole district, but my question is, do you think that it is possible to implement Koha at this small school as a pilot program starting now? We are a 99% Macintosh operating system, but I do have a Windows server that could be used as a server. I am nuts to even think of doing this? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Be as honest as you want, I don't want to get into anything that I might be sorry for later...... Dedicated IP Address for KOHA

We have registered a domain (www.jlcopac.org) with Bluehost. They have given us a shared ip address. We would like to know whether or not dedicated ip address is required for installing koha on our domain. We would greatly appreciate your help and suggestion. The mini is a cool desktop, workstation or auxiliary server, but it isn't designed to fill a mission critical role. I'm using Apple's spec page as reference: http://www.apple.com/macmini/specs.html Just as all living things must die, even the best servers will eventually have parts fail. So one big question is "What happens when a failure occurs?" Good server design offers several features that prevent you from being utterly screwed just because one fan or drive failed. These features are notable in the mini's case, by their absence. Mini's Major Downsides: ~ not site-serviceable: (1) You do not have guaranteed access to parts; (2) Unlike, say, the G4 chassis, Mini is not really designed for serviceability; ~ drive performance: 2.5-inch 5400 (not even 7200) rpm HDD! ~ drive reliability: no hardware RAID. ~ no redundant power supplies. ~ Looks small, but takes 2U in a rack. A second question is "How likely is a serious failure?" The miniaturized environment means more heat, increasing the wear on and failure rate of moving parts, in particular hard drives and power supplies. So failure is more likely, and sooner. Without redundancy or self-serviceability, when failure does occur, you don't have a fallback. Apple may decide that the only thing to do is have you ship it back to them to service it. And that does not involve getting koha and your data back together. Even if Apple will send a tech, what is the turnaround time on your AppleCare service calls now? What kind of turnaround are they obligated to provide? Unspecified. Basic AppleCare doesn't really have SLA-style assurances that govern the details of their service to you. Compare this to the industry standard "4 Hour Response, Next Day Parts" provisions of AppleCare "Premium" for Xserve. So it is clear by their support provisions what hardware Apple regards as server-grade. During a Mac Mini's unspecified service period downtime, your library would have to operate ad hoc (note: offline circulation *is* being developed for koha, but is not bankable yet), while you endure considerable pressure... yet may not be able to affect the outcome. This is what I mean as being "utterly screwed." I agree with Josh's preference for Debian. At worst, it won't cost you anything to try it. --joe On 10/18/07, Joshua M.
