Hi All, Dumb question. Is it reasonable to assume that the MARC Bibliographic Frameworks preferences are expecting the same fields as the Item Types listed? -ramon

Salvete! \/\/00+ a Librarian question! Ohhhh, it might *seem* like a basic question, but you could have inquired without fear of retribution, and we would have taken you for a Librarian. You see, no one really knows.* (*That I've met, anyway.) The best scheme I saw for a public Library was genre based at the East Brunswick Public Library in NJ a long time ago when I was a high schooler. However, you're dealing with a church Library, so I can only imagine all yer stuff is going to be on fairly similar topics. So, I will advocate for an approach that other cataloguers (this is really a classification question, but I doubt that matters to you) may throw stones at me for. I would counsel you to genrify by title and church chronology or possibly author and church chronology. That way, if it were in a Christian establishment, you'd have works in the early years and title then the later and it might prove useful to your users. If it were a mosque, I might advocate for subject classification. If it were a Judaic temple, I might advocate for just stickin' to the Dewey subject since I'd like to think there might be a wider range of topics present. So I suppose it would help to pry and know which religion, and in that case I might provide a more useful answer. Cheers, Brooke

Getting a newer version of Koha

(Koha 3.0alpha, (Gentoo) Linux 2.6.24, MySQL 5.0.56) I've seen some terms thrown around like "latest snapshot", "git" and such that seems to indicate it's possible to get a newer version of Koha than 3.0alpha. I found my way to http://git.koha.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=Koha;a=summary , but I'm not sure what to do there. Clicking on any of the links labeled "snapshot" seems to trigger a really big download, though. So, to get the latest version of Koha, should I just download the top "snapshot" link? Or is there a better way to do it? (Is there a revised release date for the beta, BTW?) Thank you.

Yes, you're right - I'd missed that feature in the check-out process. Great - that solves half the problem. For the other half (a notification for the librarian of patron fines during check-in), I wrote a patch to add that functionality to returns.pl and returns.tmpl , and filed it as an enhancement request (Bug 1962: http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1962 ) Maybe some form of that will make it into a future snapshot. We're about launch our little library here at church, but I just wanted to try this question once more: Is there any way to have Koha tell the librarian, either during a check-out or check-in, that the current patron has a fine on his account? If it's a check-in, the patron may want to pay the fine right away. If it's a check-out, we want to disallow the checkout (no further borrowing until the fine is paid). I'm sure there are existing Koha sites that do this kind of thing, right? Mapping fields to "ignore"

Hi all, We are doing some tests to see if Koha is the right choice for our small social justice library. Does any of you know if there is a quick way to set all the MARC fields/subfields to "ignore" in the MARC structure for a given framework? (Koha 3 alpha) Adding new marc field in framework...

Is there some script I need to run after adding a new marc field to the default framework? We're trying to add a 793 field, and it appears that Koha is letting us do this, but when going back and browsing through the framework, there is still no 793.
