I manage a very small (<1000 volumes) law library and our current software that allows online searching will not be supported by the new web hosting vendor (no ASP.NET) I'm hoping Koha will work for us - have to figure out how to import data and make it accessible online - and that's after I get it installed, etc., which I hope to do using Mac OS X (10.5.8). If anyone has managed a similar project I'd like to hear from you. Otherwise, I'll be lurking around as I hack my way through this. cheers - Susan -- Susan G. one URI or URL for each ITEM?
by Gorgie R. 10 Sep '09

10 Sep '09

Hi Folks, I saw in the Chicago University Lens Opac (Aquabrowser interface instead Horizon Opac) that they put an URL to each Bibliographic record. Something like this: URL for this record: http://lens.lib.uchicago.edu/?itemid=|library/marc/uc|4848480 The 4848480 is the Bibliographic record number or system control number. I think that they tray to offer a kind of PURL. In Koha ILS when you add an ITEM the point “u” ask for an URI, could you tell me what is the idea with this functionality? An which is the structure of this uri? In a new Horizon ILS version for adding an ITEM they ask for an URL of the item too. I have the same question. Could you help me to understand these futures? Thanks in advance Georgie _________________________________________________________________ Revisa tus correos de Hotmail en tu BlackBerry - Clic Aquí http://www.windowsliveentublackberry.com

Opac login information on Import Patrons
by Nadel Catura 10 Sep '09

10 Sep '09

After setup and configuration of Koha, we are now in Adding of Patrons. Mainly, our patrons are the students (College and IS) which is hundreds in number. Unfortunately, these are too many records to add manually one by one. So we decided to use the module, Import Patrons. I have tried 5 records to upload using a converted csv file of the student records. Good thing, I have successfully imported 5 samples. However, even if I have successfully added these records, the Opac Login information of the students are not included in the Import. I am just wondering, is there a way for me to add the Opac Login information of the students during the Import process? Anyone's help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! Have nice day.

installing Koha 3, bulk marc import v. staged
by Amy Schuler 09 Sep '09

09 Sep '09

Hello, I have installed Koha 3.0 and am close to importing my MARC records into the database. My question is this: somewhere I have read that it is recommended that for the initial big import, one should use the Bulk Marc Import tool (which I believe is a command line thing) rather than the staging MARC records. During my trial run, I had used the staging & importing tools rather than the bulk marc import. Is there a very compelling reason to use the bulk? During my trial run it turns out that I did not populate the database, but that was because I messed up some of the system parameters - not because of any issue with the staging & importing tools. I would rather not use the bulk marc import, if avoidable, because it is more techy than the staging & importing. I have less than 10,000 records to import. Let me know if you need more information. And PLEASE, if you are affiliated with a company trawling this list for potential clients, do not contact me! I will not return your phone calls or e-mails. If I need paid support, I will hire LibLime, whose employees have the decency not to harass me whenever I post a question to this list (thanks, LibLime). Amy Amy C. Simple Koha Apache Issue
by Ata ur Rehman 09 Sep '09

09 Sep '09

Dear All I've installed Koha 3 on Debian Lenny and configured Apache to work with PHP. I've Installed WordPress at /usr/share/phpdir/wordpress and make an alias in Apache conf file so that I can point http://localhost/phpdir/wordpress to access wordpress blog. Now when I point my browser at http://localhost it redirects me to Koha OPAC. I want to redirect all requests at http://localhost to http://localhost/phpdir/wordpress automatically. How can I? Thanks in anticipation Regards, Ata
