Greetings, I'm from Hawassa University a place 271Km from capital city Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Currently we are moving to use Koha for our Library. I had upgraded from 2.2 to 3.0 on Ubuntu 8.04 and I was successful using the manuals for installation and upgrading from Koha-duke site. But when the librarians are adding items in to the database, it will show us "production mode - trapped fatal error" . the error in koha log file states that " [Tue Sep 08 15:59:07 2009] [error] [client ...] [Tue Sep 8 15:59:07 2009] additem.pl: Can't call method "append_fields" on an undefined value at /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.8/MARC/File/SAX.pm line 92. at /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8/XML/LibXML/SAX.pm line 73, referer: http://lis.hu.edu.et:8080/cgi-bin/koha/cataloguing/additem.pl?biblionumber=… "[Tue Sep 08 15:59:07 2009] [error] [client ...] [Tue Sep 8 15:59:07 2009] additem.pl: at /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.8/MARC/File/XML.pm line 445, referer: http://lis.hu.edu.et:8080/cgi-bin/koha/cataloguing/additem.pl?biblionumber=… please any help!!

Koha support from PTFS Europe
by Nick Dimant 07 Sep '09

07 Sep '09

Hi all In the light of Chris's comments I thought I would use this opportunity to up-date the list with where PTFS Europe are with supporting Koha: 1. We are in the process of implementing Koha at 4 organisations right now - an international agency, a management consultancy, a school and a scientific research library. 2. We are also contributing code and are in discussion with BibLibre about helping them test and document the acquisitions work they have developed as part of 3.2. 3. We submitted our application to get listed on "Pay for support" - we look forward to getting feedback soon. In fact we applied a few weeks ago and have not heard anything yet. Does anyone know how soon we will be listed and/or contacted? Koha is a great product and the more I see of it the more I like it! It is really good to be part of this worldwide community. Koha Authentication with Windows Active Directory
by Anselm Olweny 07 Sep '09

07 Sep '09

Dear Members, I have installed koha in my institution library and would like patrons to login at the opac using their active directory accounts. I have followed the instructions in the Auth_with_ldap.pm file and made the necessary changes in the koha-conf.xml file. I have koha version 3.0100041, however when I login using a valid Active Directory account I get "You entered an incorrect username or password." in the opac. There are also no errors in both apache and koha error logs. I am kindly requesting for any assistance in making this work. I would appreciate help relating to what changes I may need to do in active directory as well or Auth_with_ldap.pm. I have attached a copy of my koha-conf.xml so that you may show me what am getting wrong. Stay well Anselm Olweny Teaching Assistant, EASLIS, Makerere University Kampala, Uganda

by Anselm Olweny 07 Sep '09

07 Sep '09

Dear Members, With this mail I intend introduce myself to members of this list. I am Olweny Anselm, a Teaching Assistant at the East African School of Library and Information Science, Makerere University. In joing this list I would like to keep abreast with the development in Koha, share my experiences where necessary and to be able to obtain help from you guys where necessary. Regards Anselm Olweny ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: koha-request(a)lists.katipo.co.nz Date: Wed, 02 Sep 2009 22:58:15 +1200 Subject: Welcome to the "Koha" mailing list To: aolweny(a)gmail.com Nau Mai, Haere Mai ki te whanau Koha. Hello and Welcome to the Koha Community. This is just a brief email to help you make the most of the community, and the community make the most of you. The best thing you can do to start is to introduce yourself. A brief email to this mailing list saying who you are and what you want to do is a great way to do that. This is the general discussion list for librarians and others interested in the Koha FOSS (free & open-source software) LMS/ILS (library management system/integrated library system) and related activities. It is a companion to other email lists (see <http://lists.koha.org/>) that discuss future development or aspects of the application. Before posting to the list, it's always good to read/search through the mailing list archive <http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.misc.koha> and the manual and FAQs <http://koha.org/documentation> for answers to your questions. Please feel free to use this list for announcements, questions and discussions on relevant topics, and please try to keep it positive and polite. Pro-free-software LMS/ILS news is welcome. Debating definitions of “free” is not. Please send plain text emails and if you opt for the digest, change the subject line when you reply (as described at the top of the digest). In general, try to keep subject lines accurate and try to write the sort of message that you'd be happy if it appeared on the letters page of a national newspaper or magazine. Other useful netiquette guidelines can be found in Internet RFC 1855 <http://tools.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1855.txt>. Emails from non-subscribers (and other emails held for review) will usually be sent to this list in a batch once a day. Websites and bloggers may find the gmane archive <http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.misc.koha> more useful for linking, because its comment system is open to all. Some other useful sites to keep an eye on are included below: - Koha project home page <http://koha.org> - Here you will find links to other Koha websites and announcements of interest to the Koha community. - Koha Bugs <http://bugs.koha.org> - Here you will find enhancement projects as well as bugs - Koha Developer Wiki <http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php> - information about the development process and RFCs (Request for Comments) - Koha Git Repository <http://git.koha.org/> - patches and enhancements to Koha from the community - Koha Documentation <http://koha.org/documentation> We look forward to meeting you and working with you.

Barcode Readers & WinIsis Data Migration
by Rovin 04 Sep '09

04 Sep '09

Hello, My name is Imran Mohamed from the University of Guyana. A while back we decided to use Koha for our Library Automation Project. We are 99% complete with customization and we are about to enter data entry stage. I have some questions: 1. We need some suggestions about bar-codes; do we use the auto generation feature in Koha, or do we use the Accession Number? What are the pros and cons? 2. What is the best barcode reader to use? 3. We have some records in WinIsis(.iso) format. However, when converting the records to MARC21 format, we realized that the tags are different, e.g. Accession Number etc. Also, the tags in WinIsis doesn't use sub-fields, where as in MARC21, it does. Example, for the Title tag in WinIsis, all the information is stored in one tag, whilst in MARC21, there are sub-fields for Title, Extended Title etc. What is the best method to convert from WinIsis to MARC21. Shelving Location?
by Chris Morrison 03 Sep '09

03 Sep '09

We got Koha successfully installed and our data is almost fully migrated and the catalog is fully searchable. However, we are unsure how to define shelving location? I know that the value in stored in 952$c, but when I add an item, there is nothing in the drop down box to choose from. Obviously, I have to add my own, but I don't see where to do that. Help?
