Upload of Existing Records
by Nadel Catura 02 Sep '09

02 Sep '09

Our school started its operations 7years ago. >From the time it has started, our library didn't use any of the Library Systems existing today. So our records are plainly saved and recorded in an Excel File. Is there any way that we can upload these records to Koha? Your help is greatly appreciated.

New web log of Koha chat
by tajoli 02 Sep '09

02 Sep '09

Hi to all, today I learn that there is a new web site that log Koha chat. The new web log is http://stats.workbuffer.org/irclog/koha/ I think that http://koha.org/about/get-involved/irc andp http://koha.org/support/free-support need an update. In http://koha.org/support/free-support the phrase "Kohaphiles of all types can be found on our real-time chat IRC channel. Point your favorite IRC client at irc.katipo.co.nz and join #koha or use the web-based client here." could be change with "Kohaphiles of all types can be found on our real-time chat IRC channel. Point your favorite IRC client at irc.katipo.co.nz and join #koha or use the web-based client from http://koha.org/cgi-bin/irc.cgi. You can read the log of the channel from http://stats.workbuffer.org/irclog/koha/." Bye Zeno Tajoli

Exporting existing custom cataloging framework?
by Scott Marriott 01 Sep '09

01 Sep '09

Has anyone had any luck exporting a version of a customized cataloging framework to another instance of Koha 3.0.... I have a very simplified framework that I'd rather not rebuild. Barring that anyone have any good ideas/examples of quickly creating a custom template. (I think I spent about 5 hours deleting fields for this current one.) Thanks, Scott

Migration of serials subscriptions and current issues
by Walls, Ian 01 Sep '09

01 Sep '09

Everyone, Has anyone successfully automated a migration of serials data into Koha? I'm able to get my serials information out of my old ILS in MFHD (MARC Format for Holdings Data<http://www.loc.gov/marc/holdings/echdhome.html>), but converting the subfield codes into the rather complex table structures of koha.subscription and koha.serial is daunting. Anyone got a handy script kicking around they'd be willing to share? I have about 850 titles to do. Salvete! >I think its the ISO language code. az is the one you need. If your suspicion is correct, and by 2 matches, which warily isn't enough data for a proper pattern, what is the rationale behind clinging to the old-1 format over the more comprehensive -2? http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php Were this not an international project, I'd not worry about it, but -2 is more exhaustive. I don't even want to talk about -3. (I'm thinking this might simply have been a matter of what was available at the time, but that's changed, and I think we ought to, too.) Yes, I'm really this dorky, Brooke

Salvete! >Im setting this up on translate.koha.org ... what is the language code >for Azerbaijanian eg French is fr, english is en, dutch is nl. Do you >know the code for Azerbaijanian If you mean the MARC code, it's Aze, though I suspect you might not seeing as how your coding above differs from The List. Tamil is tam. http://www.loc.gov/marc/languages/language_name.html Cheers, Brooke

Hi all,  i had just started  to translate KOHA into Azerbaijanian language, it is closely like Turkish language, so i decided to change Turkish po file, but i have some questions. For example how can i add my own PO file into the system?  Which files i must edit?  Thanks in advance, Best wishes, Elshan Akhundov Advertisement: Novinka ot Swedbank - Strahovanije podderzhki semji Pozabotjsja o finansovoi stabiljnosti svojei semji! French Installation of Koha is a bit mixed in languages
by Rick Welykochy 01 Sep '09

01 Sep '09

Hi all, I've installed Koha/3.00.03 for a French library. The only place that the installation procedure asked me about language choice was during the MARC21 config, so at that point I specified "fr". Our admins then completed the web install and have ensured that the language and opaclanguages system prefs are both set to "fr-FR". But strange things are afoot. Perhaps. Since this is a first for me, I do not know if a French Koha should exhibit the following characteristics. 1. OPAC: the HTML header states the following: <html lang="en" xml:lang="en" ... etc. 2. Admin: the HTML header states the following: <html lang="en-NZ" xml:lang="en-NZ" ... etc. 3. Many of the pages are indeed in French, so I must assume that the correct set of templates. There are many anomolies, though: (A) the Admin homepage is in French on the left side, but the navigation links into the admin system are in English (B) the OPAC home page is entirely in English Is this to be expected? Also, is there a guide to how to complete (and perfect!) a French Koha install? The primary difference for our purposes is that the Holds Queue report lets you filter by branch. In our 7-branch system this is a requirement. In our system the Holds to Pull report returns no results. We were told that Holds Queue was the one to use, perhaps because our system is not configured to use the Holds to Pull report? Although the manual doesn't say anything about that report requiring a cron job. > 2) Both reports list holds that are already at 'waiting' status, which seems > unhelpful to me for the Holds to pull report. In my experience the Holds Queue report does not include items which are waiting. > 3) Neither report seems to list any holds for items that are currently > checked out. Is one of the > above supposed to include holds for items that are currently checked out? Do > you know of a report for this or should I go get my SQL for Dummies? Neither report lists holds for items which are checked out because the purpose of the report is to give a list for librarians to take to the stacks so they can pull items with holds. I'm not aware of a built-in report which fits your description. > Lastly, on a related problem - when placing a 'specific copy' hold > (intranet) the system reverts to 'next available'. I remember reading > discussion of this but can't find it again now I need it. Do you know > whether this has been fixed - or was it maybe caused by some code being > missing from the install? Do you mean that after placing the item-level hold the list of holds indicates that just-placed hold is "next available" rather than "Only item XXXXX?" I'm not aware that this is a known bug, but a quick test suggests that it doesn't exist in the latest version. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
