The workshop will feature two exceptional presenters who are expert at manipulating MARC data to their own ends! Roman Panchyshyn from Kent State will begin the program by demonstrating how batch processing, and the tools available for manipulating and managing groups of MARC records, have improved workflow processes at KSU and how they can work for you! Managing large sets of data never seemed so easy! Then Terry Reese from Oregon State, maps cataloger extraordinaire and creator/wizard of MarcEdit, will provide a three-hour workshop on his free software, MarcEdit, one of the most popular and effective MARC applications available. Terry will offer both hands on practice (if you can bring a laptop), or you can follow along on the large projection screen, as he demonstrates the many features of this invaluable MARC editing tool. Tens of thousands of libraries have downloaded this free software and you will, too, after you see what it can do to help you do more with even less! To register for this great opportunity ($40 for staff, $20 for students), please visit the NOTSL website, www.notsl.org<BLOCKED::http://www.notsl.org>, print out the registration form, and mail in your paid registration. Emailed Overdue Notices
by Josh Westbrook 22 Oct '09

22 Oct '09

Reading the Koha documentation, it looked like there was one email address that all overdue notices would go to if the patron did not have an email address in their account. But It looks like when a patron makes changes to their account in the OPAC an email is sent to the email address that is associated with their "Home Library" in the "Libraries and Groups" parameters about the changes. Is this the way Overdue Notices for patrons without email addresses work also? Is an email sent to the home library's email address with all of the overdue notices for patrons at_that_branch without an email address? Our Koha system isn't live yet to test this - any feedback would be appreciated! Again: delete MARC records
by stefan 22 Oct '09

22 Oct '09

Dear List, I've imported different .mrc files using the graphical interface of Koha and was able to delete them with the "undo import" button in "staged records". Without manipulation of the source the "undo import" button desapeard. So I tried: bulkmarcimport.pl -d -file zm42a_1995_2000.mrc Now the extranet OPAC is down, giving the error: Can't call method "leader" on an undefined value at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Biblio.pm line 1051. In the Intranet OPAC the search results the records still apeare. When I click on a bib record I get following error: Can't call method "fields" on an undefined value at /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/catalogue/MARCdetail.pl line 124. I ran rebuild_zebra.pl without success. Can you tell me a method how to delete MARC records/items permanetely and savely? Thank you. Stefan Specs: Koha 3.01.00.052 Debian Lenny minimal MySQL and Apache up to date P.S. The Zebra features are just glorious!

Koha Manual in Git
by Nicole Engard 22 Oct '09

22 Oct '09

I have some awesome news. As you know I'm working with both ByWater and BibLibre. Well thanks to BibLibre, we now have a git repo for the Koha 3.2 Manual: http://git.biblibre.com/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=kohadocs;a=summary -- and I'm working on converting everything (and updating everything) over to DocBook so that it will be much easier for translation and publishing in multiple outlets. What you'll see in the repo so far is a few images and the start of the docbook file. I am working on it daily to try and get all of the content over. You'll probably see me asking questions so that I can improve on what was written so far - and fill in gaps. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!! Thank to BibLibre (and specifically Henri-Damien) for helping get this up and running so that I can easily share my work with you all. Thanks Nicole C. Engard Documentation Manager
