Display patron's name
by Hendrix, Harry 10 Feb '10

10 Feb '10

Hi, Is there a system preference which can be used to display the patron's name in the catalog detail screens of the OPAC? Similar like the HidePatronName preference which displays the patron's name on the holds and catalog detail screens in the staff client Thanks, Harry The information contained in this message may be confidential and legally protected under applicable law. Z39.50 and Amicus - update
by Agnes Rivers-Moore 09 Feb '10

09 Feb '10

Dear all A while back I did some testing of Z39.50 cataloguing search, and wrote a piece on my results. At the time I found that searching Amicus was considerably slower than other sources (and I did test over several weeks, on and off). I am glad to report that Amicus is no longer slow to respond. This does not invalidate the general point, that each Z39.50 target should be evaluated to ensure that it is responding promptly (or at all) when choosing preferred sources for MARC records. KohaCon2010 : donations
by Joann Ransom 09 Feb '10

09 Feb '10

Woo hoo - first donation received today for Koha Conference! From outside New Zealand the easiest way to make donations to using the paypal 'donate' button on the Koha Con site: http://kohacon.appspot.com/ From within New Zealand either send a cheque or use the Paypal button again. HLT is a registered charitable trust so not only do we pay no tax but donations are tax deductible too (in NZ anyway - not sure elsewhere). All donations will be acknowledged by a receipt. Thanks all, Cheers Jo.

patron login via URL
by Zachary Spalding 09 Feb '10

09 Feb '10

I am creating some generic patron logins that would be done via a url like the following http://koha.host.org/cgi-bin/koha/opac-main.pl?userid=MYPATRON&password=PAT… When I use the link it appears to work and I get a welcome to the user at the top right, but once they do a search it appears the session is lost. Is there a security setting that prevents this type of logon. Zack

Acquisitions Budget terminology
by Colin Campbell 09 Feb '10

09 Feb '10

On the display of funds we have columns 'Ordered' and 'Spent'. Isn't the usual terminology something like 'Encumbered' and 'Paid' ? Also what is the significance of the 'locked' flag on the budget screen? KUDOS Board meeting minutes, Feb 4, 2010
by Walls, Ian 09 Feb '10

09 Feb '10

Community, Below are the KUDOS meeting minutes from today's board meeting. They will be posted to kudos.koha.org shortly, but I wanted to be sure everyone had a chance to look them over. I hope this clears up some of the questions about where KUDOS is going and how we hope to get there. If there are any ambiguities, please let us know, and we'll do our best to clarify. Cheers, Ian Walls KUDOS Vice President Kudos Board meeting #2 February 4, 2010 Present: John Brice (President), Ian Walls (Vice President), David Schuster (Treasurer), Vicki Teal Lovely (Secretary) 1. 501c3 filing. John has paperwork ready to go, just needs to be typed up. Vicki will post the ALA KUDOS minutes in Google docs. John will update mission statement with version approved at ALA. 2. Bylaws * Conflict of Interest Policy was approved at ALA summer, 2009 * Mission statement approved at ALAMW10: "The purposes of the Corporation are educational, literary, and scientific, specifically: to promote the study, improvement and support of the Koha Integrated Library System for the benefit of North American libraries and to foster cooperation with the global Koha community." * Membership statement approved at ALAMW10 will stand as is: "Membership should be for an institution in North America with an installation of Koha." * Dues Structure Single Library $100 - 1 vote Consortium $500 - 5 votes (at least 5 libraries or institutions working together) Vendor $100 - 1 vote Individual $100 - 1 vote - requires sponsorship from two library, consortia or vendor members since they do note meet the membership definition. At least one sponsor must be a library or consortium member. 1. Vendors serving on board. For now, we will not create a policy for this. The consensus is that we are comfortable with up to two vendors serving on the board, perhaps as member at large. All agree it would not be appropriate for vendor to serve as an officer (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary). However, we will not create a policy until the organization is up and running. When we are ready, the following may serve as a draft policy statement: Vendor representatives/individual developers are eligible to be nominated and elected to the board. Vendor representatives can only hold at large positions and can vote on board actions with the exception of matters dealing with issues detailed in the conflict of interest policy. They must recuse themselves when the board deals with such issues. There is no requirement for a vendor to be on the board. 1. Membership for individuals. Ian proposed that individuals could be sponsored by a member. Individuals could be eligible to serve on the board if they had a second sponsor. The dues structure above was modified to accommodate this category. 2. Virtual Conference with regional gathering. David proposed that we hold a virtual conference in late April or early May. People could gather regionally for an in person meeting in conjunction with the regional conference. Proposed dates are 4/28 & 4/29 and 5/6 & 5/7. We will poll Koha users regarding dates, potential regional hosts, and topics. This could be open to anyone in the world. Proposed time for conference is 9-3 so that regional groups have time for meeting. One or two day length depends on content. Potential web hosting options are elluminate and Go To Meeting/Webinar. 3. Tabled: Services to members. </PRE> <html> <body> ------------------------------------------------------------<br /> This email message, including any attachments, is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain information that is proprietary, confidential, and exempt from disclosure under applicable law. Koha trademarks around the world
by Joann Ransom 09 Feb '10

09 Feb '10

Hi all, George and I have been discussing the issue of Koha trademarks. We know that Koha has been registered in the USA by Liblime, and that the EU registration is being signed over to HLT, but what about the rest of world? Koha is a global phenomenon; should we be thinking about Koha in Asia, Africa, Latin America etc. Has it been registered anywhere else? What is stop any ratbag vendor setting up anywhere in the world from registering Koha in the same way that Liblime and Biblibre did? How do we find out, is it important and should we care? Cheers Jo.
