Headings don’t link to pages containing records with those headings
by MiguelSB 06 May '10

06 May '10

Hi, I am having the following problem: I am using Unimarc and while subfield 700$a (entry element of Primary Intellectual Responsibility) and subfield 610$a data (Uncontrolled Subject Terms) link to pages that have records with either that author or that subject (in the 700 field case, the URL ends with: opac-search.pl?q=au:Author name), the subfields 701$a (Alternative Intellectual Responsibility) and 702$a aren’t linking to pages that have records with those authors, and the subfield 606$a (Topical Name Used as Subject) isn’t linking to pages that have records with that subject. In the 701 field case, the URL ends with: opac-search.pl?q=an:8 and links to a page that has no results. I chose the same subject thesaurus for the 606$a and the 610$a subfields and the same author thesaurus for the 700$a, the 701$a and the 702$a subfields and, I really I don’t understand why this is happening. Could you please help me? Thank you very much. Subject indexing and searching/linking in 3.0.5.1
by Christopher Curry 05 May '10

05 May '10

Hello all, We noticed that Koha 3.0 includes linked subject headings, but the links execute a subject search for only subfield a. XSLTResultsDisplay & XSLTDetailsDisplay system preferences are turned ON. I tried updating the XSL to change the link to search for the whole subject string, but these searches get no results. Are subject qualifier subfields indexed (we use Zebra)? If not, can anyone explain (or direct me to documentation explaining) how indexing can be turned on for these qualifiers? I've looked at the zebra indexing docs in the 3.0 manual, and they are a bit vague. http://koha.org/documentation/manual/3.0/searching/guide-to-searching/index… mentions configuration files, but does not inform me what the names of the files are (or a clue to where they are located). Running on Debian Lenny. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Cheers, Christopher Curry Assistant Technical Librarian / Assistant IT Officer American Philosophical Society 105 South Fifth Street Philadelphia, PA 19106-3386 Tel. MARC records
by Ken Lomax 05 May '10

Hi All I have recently installed Koha 3.0.5 on a standalone machine (Debian Lenny) for a small personal library (about 800 holdings). In the past (a couple of years ago) I tried to install the then current version on Fedora, but had too many problems, both with the installation and then using Koha itself. Happy to report the latest install and the software is a big improvement. Just two things though: 1) Like a recent thread I am finding the response of Koha to be very slow. This was from initial setup. I have about 60 holdings loaded and it is the same as initially with no holdings. I am the only user accessing the system. The machine is a reasonable size PC and so I would have thought there would not be too much problem, so I am surpirsed at the slowness (generally about 5 seconds to respond to any request). Opac is the same as Koha. 2) I am using z3950 for my cataloging whever I can and making modifications as required for myself. As this is only a small personal library, it is not critical. However I tend to like to do things *properly* whenever possible. I am more of a computer person than a librarian, so I am looking for a newbies guide to cataloging (and using MARC). Any suggestions? Regards Ken

Hi All At todays community meeting http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/index.php/Meetingnotes10may04 one of the topics of discussion was bugzilla http://stats.workbuffer.org/irclog/koha/2010-05-04#i_433541. There is a new bugzilla set up at http://bugs.koha-community.org it is running bugzilla 3.6 and has some nice new features and a nicer UI than the older bugzilla. What we need people to do is register there, with the same email address they used on the old bugzilla. That way when the bugs are imported they get assigned to the right users. So please if you have a couple of minutes, head over to http://bugs.koha-community.org and register as a user. Chris

by Susan Mustafa 05 May '10

Dear All, I would like to know if I can in anyway increase the speed of the Z39.50 Search Engine?. We are only connecting to OCLC, and no other Libraries are checked before searching. Searching based on ISBN takes close 10 seconds to produce data [With 2 result sets being returned so not a lot] Please help, as the Library director is breathing down my neck. Regards,

Re: [Koha] MARC records]
by Ken Lomax 05 May '10

Thanks to you and Nicole for your responses. I am doing copy-cataloging from z3950 servers wherever possible. I am finding that not all titles are available on the servers (particularly older holdings) or that some of the details are not the same as the copy I have. This mainly applies to some of the older books. The ISBN does not match, probably because they are reprints (This seems to mainly apply to titles published by the Reprint Society of Britain) or to some of the texts that I have. I am using the record from the z3950 server when possible and modifying them where they are slightly different. I also have some works that do not appear to be available on the servers, so I will need to catalog them by hand. Once again, many thanks for the link.
